Anyone been fishing Puget Sound lately

Thanks Sark! Any recommendations on lure sizes as far as the Coyotes or other lures by chance? Have you heard anything by chance on what size of bait is in the area? Thanks again! Beartrack

Anyone been fishing Puget Sound lately

Boat is still in the shop, supposed to be back today (heard that 3 days in a row though) and I'm hoping to get the rod holders and downriggers all mounted up tomorrow plus a new mount to raise the 8hp Yamaha trolling motor. If all goes well I'm hoping to fish Sunday. As I've only gone salmon...

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

...I swung by the shop today to take a look and it's good I did. It appears that on the balsa core gas tank cleat repair they only did the gas tank front cleats and forgot to do the side cleats... and the ones they did look like they didn't go any further back into the rotten wood than the 5/8"...

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

Well the Dory is in the 3-Rivers Marine shop up here in Washington and has been since about my last post. They quoted me $500 for a tune-up - then turned around and said partway through they determined that carb#4 on the Yamaha 80 needed a rebuild and I should do all 4 at the same time. :-( They...

    Durabak, Line-X or Rhino Liner???

Hi Thataway! The link seems be broken - at least for me tonight. All I get is "Sorry, the page you requested was not found. " Any chance there might be a typo in there somewhere?

How do I fix the Petri dish problem once I have it?

Sounds great, thanks gang. Now if only that 18th century former owner had stored wine in the tank I could use it to pay for the recent motor and hull work tool. Alas, chlorinated water (and working some OT) and I should be back on the water and hydrated as soon as the next weekend or two. :-)...

How do I fix the Petri dish problem once I have it?

LOL, ok, I'm a 15-year engineer and I still think I'm now on information overload a bit. So I'm confused, short of straight Vodka ;-) , is there ANY way to use this tank safely again given all the potential contaminents, bacteria, slime, cysts, pathogens or who knows what else I've missed? I'm...

    Durabak, Line-X or Rhino Liner???

Interesting stuff - wondering what the difference is between this and Durabak? I've sent them an email and will report back if they reply. I did notice in their FAQ section though that they state it isn't intended to provide a waterproof barrier: "KiwiGrip is not formulated to be a waterproof...

    Durabak, Line-X or Rhino Liner???

I typed this up once and on "Submit", lost it so let's try again. :-) I'm looking into getting the cockpit linered. This is to help seal a few stress fractures in the surface to help prevent any water from getting into the core (after I have the current gas tank cleat holes repaired later this...

How do I fix the Petri dish problem once I have it?

Ran some water through the freshwater tank this last week and found that the boat was stored with a full tank of water - you guessed it - out came green stuff in the water that looked a lot like moss strands! :crook Any pointers from folks that have seen or ran into this level of biological...

Just saw what looks like a great 16' Dory deal on craigslist

Thought I'd forward it here in case anyone was interested. It's an '83 16' Dory in NW Oregon with a 50hp Honda with only 5 hours on the motor and he wants $8,000. Sounds pretty good and the photos look like the boat and trailer are in good shape. Hope the info helps someone out there. Quote...

    Restoring the gelcoat

I have a similar issue on the 22' I just bought re: oxidized chalky finish on the sides. Is running 1000 or 1500 grade paper (wet) on a 4" random orbital Makita sander acceptable to make the process easier / faster? The I assume the process after that would be identical of course with the...

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

Thanks Thataway - what would be the most cost-effective way to build a setup for polishing this 40+ gallons of fuel... do I need to purchase a separate Racor to do this? I'm guessing the cheapest containers to hold it during filtering will be a bunch of 5 gallon buckets but also open to any...

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

Apolgies! I was very tired when I typed that - - # 4 i the only cylinder that did NOT result in an RPM change actually. I will edit my post above...

Need some pointers on mounting downriggers and rod carriers

Now I see what you mean on the snubbers being easier on the hands and the boat both, thanks!!

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

Hi C-Weed! Thanks for the reply and the info on the Yamaha additive. On the engine tilt, that's a pretty interesting thought! On the batteries - where is the best place to check for voltage charging from the Yamaha 80? Both the batteries are new as of 2 nights ago, so unless I got a lemon (or...

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

Aha! Dora~Jean, great idea! Here's what I found. I tried with all plugs on pulling 1 wire at a time. It looks like it's running on 3, not 2 cylinders - told you I was a newbie! :-) The only spark plug wire pulled that did not result in an RPM change was the one going to #4, the bottom...

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

Thanks all, I should have mentioned, I already removed some of the old fuel out of the 1 tank I'm currently running off of, added a full recommended dose of Sea Foam, and topped it off with Super Unleaded in case the octane had dropped from being stored by the last owner since December. However...

Need some pointers on mounting downriggers and rod carriers

Hi all and THANKS! The info is fantastic. Greenie/newbie question on the cannonball snubbers:  What do they do and how do they go on? I did pick up a used Yamaha 8hp high-thrust 2005 kicker Friday; good thing. We took the boat out for it's maiden voyage yesterday after back flushing...

Maiden Voyage with new Dory and 80 hp Yamaha was a flop...

We took the 22 C-Dory with the 2001 80-hp Yamaha out for it's maiden (to us) voyage yesterday after back flushing the carbs, replacing / upgrading the fuel-water separator, replacing the fuel filter, and installing new batteries. Unfortunately the trip didn't go so well - good thing we had...
