USCG Auxiliary members that are C-Brats?

Hey, Larry, the titles and acronyms are confusing enough to those of us who are in the Auxiliary without trying to explain them to someone who is not. To my knowledge, there is not a specific web site that explains all of it. Anyone who has been in the military understands all about the...

HOW IS THE ECONOMY EFFECTING BOATING

I'm also a CG-Auxiliary Coxswain whose C-Dory is a qualified operational facility. I too am enjoying the fact that the government buys the fuel for patrols and exercises, etc. In addition, the "Coasties" enjoy having a 22-foot boat available for their drills, instead of having to always hook up...

    70HP Engine on a 22 Cruiser

I have a Honda 75 4-stroke on my 22 and get along just fine with great fuel economy here in Lake Superior.

USCG Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check Pre-check list

Just for the record, the first aid kit is not a mandated piece of gear on the boat. It's a good idea to have one on board, but its absence will not disqualify a boat in a USCG Aux vessel inspection. Kent Richmond - FSO MA - Bayfield, Wisconsin

    OIL FILTER FAILURE

I've been changing my own oil in my Honda automobiles for years and have used mostly Fram filters. Never had a problem with one yet. You always need to make sure that the rubber gasket comes off with the old filter, or you could have bad problems.

    Maintenance

Has anyone used a product called PoliGlow on their boat? How did it work/not work? It was recommended to me by colleagues in the CG Aux.

Ever wondered how to tie a particular knot? Best place I've found to learn how to tie almost any knot is: animatedknots.com. Kent Richmond Bayfield, WI

    Knotty C's Alaskan Adventure

We too lost a child, ours' shortly after birth. It amazed us how many people shared a similar experience. You never know about it beforehand; it always turns up afterward, -when you need the most support. I relived our experience as I read the responses to your posting. You will heal in time...

    winterizing questions

Hi Greg, I'm in way up in northern Wisconsin and have never pumped antifreeze through my Honda 75. Never a problem. I do pump it from the water tank, through my water pump. I don't have a water heater in the boat, but I've had one in every RV we've ever owned. Every one of those companies...

    Drain Plug and Nav Light?

Drain plug: always from the inside. You can see it if you stand in back of the transom and will know that it is in place. As for the nav. light, mine stores in a pair of brackets on the port side of the v-berth, toward the rear of the berth. The screw cap for the mount stores on a screw...

    C Dory Quality

This summer, as a Coast Guard Auxiliarist, I used my 22 in standardization trials with our local USCG station. I did spend some time "tricking it out" so that it would qualify as a "facility" for use by the Auxiliary. After the day's activity, I tied up at the Coast Guard Station to refuel and...

    !*??*! Lug Nut

Whenever I've found a lug nut that can't be removed using conventional means, I have always got them off using a breaker bar, sometimes with a piece of pipe put over the handle of the bar to extend it. That gives you tremendous leverage. Penetrating oil can't hurt either. I sure wouldn't go...

    22' Cruiser vs 25' Cruiser

I could be wrong about this, but isn't the cockpit size about the same between the two boats? If fishing is what you want to do, why not look at the 22 Angler? It has a bigger cockpit. Kent

    Boatyard charges

I think your marina saw you coming. I have done all of the services that you listed on my own Hondas. Messy, but not hard. Probably doesn't cost me more than $50 a season to do it. Lately, I've had a good local mechanic do the same things for not more than $150. Most all of the instructions...

    Trailer For 22 crusier

You probably don't need any more information, but here's my two cents. I launch and retrieve my 22 off a trailer pretty often. I love the roller bunks; the manual winch is a piece of cake with the rollers. As easy as it is, I wouldn't think of replacing it with an electric. I also have the...

Draining the 22- Cruiser water tank

Thanks everyone for the advice. Siphoning is what I have been doing and it seems that's what others are doing also. I was hoping someone came up with something faster. Even draining it into the cockpit would probably not be any faster than the siphon method, so it looks like we'll keep doing...

Draining the 22- Cruiser water tank

Someone else must have figured out a way to drain the freshwater tank more quickly than pumping it through the little spout on the sink. Every time I have to clean the tank (bleach), sweeten the tank (baking soda), and flush the tank (fresh water), it takes a year and a day to drain the thing...

    Trailering

I tow my 22 with a l993 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7 V8. It tows very nicely. The truck's 4-wheel drive takes care of any difficult retrievals.

    Fender Covers

My wife sewed our fender covers from terry-cloth towels. They work really well and were very inexpensive. I've seen fenders eventually wear dust scratches in the gel coat of a boat. With the covers, you don't have to worry about it. Kent Richmond
