    Getting Our New Boat Home

Just want to offer our congratulations on the new boat. We have a 25 that we keep at our house on Grand Lake St Marys. I bought our boat in New Jersey and had it delivered to Southshore Marine on Lake Erie so they could rig it the way I wanted and then I went up and towed it home. You might...

    Marketing C-Dory Boats

Great idea! I understand Jim's reservations about a PDF file but would use that if available and then could print copies as needed, the file could be updated as required, etc. At any rate, I only had my boat in the water for one summer and was asked about it every time I docked somewhere and...

    New C-dorys built?

This has been an interesting thread. My story is pretty simple. I've had several boats over time, the last before my 25' C-Dory was a 40' Searay, loaded with everything needed to enjoy cruising the great lakes. It was an expensive boat, I could afford it, and when I decided to get out of the...

    Boat Name Letter Size

We went with 6 inch letters for our 25 cruiser, the Get~Aweigh. You can see what they looked like in our photo album.

Top 11 USCG 2010 rescue videos

I've heard that complaint about the Coast Guard stopping boats to check for drugs. But in boating Lake Erie around the islands, going back and forth between Leamington, Ontario and Port Clinton, and in cruising up the Detroit and St Clair rivers and Lake Huron I was never stopped. None of the...

    Is it spring yet?

Well, the ice in the channel in back of the house and around my boat docks is 4-5 inches thick. Enough that hardy souls have been sitting out there ice fishing. That won't last as the temps are supposed to reach 50 by Friday. But my C-Dory is stored in a warm building for the winter so I...

Anyone have Quick Genius600D or Lewmar550 prosport, Comment?

I have the Lewmar 550 Prosport on my 25. I've been very happy with it. It drops and retrieves reasonably fast and seems to have plenty of power. Not sure what else I could offer. It does what it's supposed to do well.

    Lake Superior

Wow, that name is familiar. 25 year ago I worked for a large forest products company and we had a brown paper mill there. I was only there once. Drove across country in the middle of winter from Quinnesec, Michigan. The things I remember are 1) getting passed by a snowmobile on the...

    Turning the corner?

I agree with Denny-O. We live in Ohio and I'm retiring in March. We've done the big boats and loved them but the cost would be more difficult to bear in retirement. So we bought our 25 cruiser and plan to do many of the same things we did with the big boats. And it is much lower cost! And...

    Turning the corner?

I agree with Bill and El. My own view... Forget the election and politics. Economies ebb and flow naturally and as Bill said the real issue was over valued, over leveraged housing. That bubble burst and rippled. We were in the process of downsizing from large home to smaller home on a...

A Tale of Two Heads (with apologies to Charles Dickens)

Thanks for the info. I hauled our boat yesterday for the winter so we'll be replacing the head. Thanks to the information here and after talking with both the guy at Nature's Head and the guy at AIRHead, I'm comfortable that this will be a good move for us. We're gong with the AIRHead since...

A Tale of Two Heads (with apologies to Charles Dickens)

I'm planning on replacing my porta potti on steroids head with a composting toilet this winter. I was just getting ready to order an AirHead when I saw this posting. Does anyone have any thoughts on which unit would be better and why they think so. Also, and this is a pretty frank question...

    Seasports web site

My only thoughts are that I bought a 2008 C-Dory 25 knowing it had no warranty because I liked the boat and I'm happy. That boat didn't have a warranty but the twin Honda's do and if something else breaks I'll fix it. Now as to the viability of Triton, I don't know but my measure of a...

    Poll: New or Used

With boats, both, 4 bought used, 4 bought new. With vehicles, primarily dealer certified used except when manufacturers run really good incentive pricing that makes it a better deal to buy new than used. With houses, all but one was purchased new.

    Navigation Lights issue

Well, here's my update on the search for a replacement circuit breaker. I needed a 5 amp BUSS circuit breaker to replace the bad one. I got the part number off of the one I have and started to search the internet for any place that carried them or sold them, all to no avail. Finally in...

Thanks... I think I'll replace the circuit breaker. Now I just need to find out where to order one from.

    Navigation Lights issue

Well I found the issue. The 5 amp circuit breaker was bad. One of the other rocker switches is wired up but unused and had a 10 amp circuit breaker so I switched the breakers and now have nav, anchor, and instrument lights. Thanks for all the suggestions.

    Navigation Lights issue

My navigation lights have stopped working. When the rocker switch is on navigation, no navigation lights, the red led on the switch doesn't come on, the anchor light doesn't come on and the instrument lights on the dash don't come on. Likewise when the switch is set to anchor, the led on the...
