    Grease Gun

I've used bearing buddies on at least the last 10 boats I've owned (heavier weight boats), so far no 'discernible' problems--knock on wood. Something recent I've learned is when you're pumping grease into them, that grease isn't necessarily getting past the first (outer) bearing into the hub and...

    08/03 - 08/09 - 13th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

Well I too have run into a few snags, but still trying to make it there. Just got back from a 7 day trip (and vac from work) to pick up relatives in Reno (relatives are from Virginia) and do some camping. Now they are at our house with more get-togethers and leave August 3rd. This is putting a...

    E-Z Loader Trailer Brakes

Using "engine braking" or applying the tow vehicle brakes is really the same thing to surge brakes on a trailer. The tow vehicle is pushing back on the trailer, thus engaging the surge brakes. The dash switch is simple, but running the long wire from the dash to the 7-pin trailer connector on...

    E-Z Loader Trailer Brakes

I have the 1/4" thick SS rotors from Tie Down Engineering. Had them for 5+ years now. On the last trip to the Delta I noticed a constant pull to the right on my Expedition tow vehicle--which probably translates to one of the "left" trailer brakes or bearings pulling the tongue to the left. We...

    Calling all 25 trailer experts!

Hi Ray, I believe you forgot to include the weight of the trailer as part of your load calculations. Typical weight is about 2,000 lbs, depending if steel, galvanized or aluminum. Add in a spare tire/wheel if you have one. 7,500 to 8,500 lbs full up seems to be the norm.

    08/03 - 08/09 - 13th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

Jim, Not to worry about getting to/from shore, with all the C-Brats attending, you can walk from boat to boat! At the very least, any of us will certainly give you a ride most any time you like...

    04/09 - 04/13 - 12th Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza

Hi Jim, just sent the check today, almost forgot, thought due date was 3/31...geez. Looking forward and doing some needed maintenance on the boat this w/e, preparing the food list, etc. There will be 3 of us Thanks again for hosting this great event.

    CD25 Cockpit Floor Leak

I got a chance to view your boat, Bob, on the Delta Extravaganza a few years back. I'll contest that that CD25 you refurbished turned out absolutely beautiful. The transom area, cockpit floor, etc, all looked great and there was no way to detect any work had been done, all smooth and fared...

    CD25 Cockpit Floor Leak

Oh, and I didn't answer all the questions I see. Boris, yes, I'm doing fine and getting the boat out 6-10 times per year rather than 12-15 as I did before, but hoping that will change once I get my own house and place to store again. Thanks for asking! The water is coming in from the scuppers...

    CD25 Cockpit Floor Leak

Thanks all for your information. Like I said, this is more of an annoyance, not a critical item (yet...). I always had "sea water" in the bilge at the end of a trip, and that would require that I fill and flush that area with fresh water to preserve the bilge pump (which has now only be replaced...

    CD25 Cockpit Floor Leak

I'm finally getting down to the "annoying" category of fixing things. I've had this leak since the boat was new (2003). It is located at the very rear of the cockpit floor just under the scuppers in the transom. It is somewhere in the slightly depressed well back there that's about 4-5" wide for...

Captain of the H.M.S. Bounty found at fault.

Interesting report. Shame that bad decisions can't be reversed. Looking back in time is always 20-20 vision. While near the storm he might have been "trying" to make the right decision given his information and experience, but it really looks awful when you try to piece together the whole event.

Fender and Line Holder via rod holder

Good idea. I'm thinking of using something similar to hold the corners of my canvas enclosure rather than drilling holes for snaps.

    C-Dory with extended roof

I also like this top, but I already have a conventional bimini that's still in good shape, maybe some day. A question that I don't think has been asked. I see snaps all around the bottom of the enclosure panels (clear vinyl), but I don't see them on the hull. What do those snaps attach to?

    08/03 - 08/09 - 13th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure

I didn't hear about the damage to vehicles at MDR last year. Was it isolated to one vehicle or were several broken into? What were they after? I can check with the Harbor Police Dept and find out more and how they plan to mitigate in the future. I prefer MDR beyond most other locations, been...

    04/09 - 04/13 - 12th Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza

Hey Jim, congrats on the retirement! I missed last year's event for a multitude of reasons, I don't intend on missing this year's, please count me in along with 1, possible 2 crew. Thanks.

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

Another one in the books Jim and Kathy, had a great time, no, fantastic time! Wonderful seeing old friends again and meeting new ones. I think Christopher, my 1st mate on this trip, has recalled every single minute of the 4 days we were there, almost like a blink of the eye in time. I will post...

    12th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for 2013

Wow Kent, double whammy, health issues and a dry boat, so sorry. Here's wishing you a full recovery and back to normal in the boating dept--maybe even double your trips per year for awhile to make up for lost time. :thup And please say hi to Marcia for me! I know I've been boating only about...

    Catalina -- Local Knowledge Needed

Hi Tortuga (forgot your name), I met you a couple of weeks ago at Ventura Marina as I was flushing/cleaning my boat and you were launching. On crowded w/e's (Memorial, July 4th, Labor, Buccaneer Day) I routinely anchor bow and stern in Cat Harbor on the backside. I like the area perpendicular...
