Can you take a vessel name with you?

So if I sell my 16 and get a 19, can I decommission the name from the old boat and put it on the new boat? Or will that anger Davey Jones and cause me to sink? :) Curious about the tradition here. bmc

    Need a ride on a 19 angler

Hi all, On fairly short notice, I'm wondering whether anyone might be available in the next two days (Thu/Fri) to do a brief sea trial with your 19 angler. I am wanting to see things like body roll at the dock, on-water handling, etc. and don't have another option to do this before making a...

    16 Cruiser power upgrade options?

Thanks to all for the input. In classic form, this is making me consider whether I'll be in a bigger dory next year, and so shouldn't spend for a motor now. Nothing like turning a $3800 outlay for a motor into ten times that for a boat!!! tx, bmc

    16 Cruiser power upgrade options?

Thanks lloyds. Hey, is your vessel name a nod to Siouxsie and the Banshees? bmc

    16 Cruiser power upgrade options?

Thanks Jenny and bjidzik-- As Matt said in his post, the weight isn't the issue. I forgot to ask him about the extra thrust--that power is going against the transom, and one concern is whether the transom is up to the task or not, with our without reinforcement. I have spoken to a couple of...

    16 Cruiser power upgrade options?

Hi all, Haven't been on the site for a while, but hope everyone is well. We've had a good summer so far, including several trips out on the boat for sturgeon, crab, etc. My last posts were a while back regarding following seas, and I've made a lot of progress there, in terms of experience...

Need a cover for 16' cruiser

For any who are interested, the current price in poly is $415; Sunbrella is $620. They are putting a boot over my anchor roller instead of a hole in the front of the cover for no extra charge. Delivery is in one week! Real nice guys to deal with so far. Thanks again for the tips. bmc

Need a cover for 16' cruiser

I've got a call in to Angola. Dotnmarty, what is the lump on the top of your cabin? Would the cover still fit snugly without whatever that is? tx, bmc

Need a cover for 16' cruiser

Hi all, Looking for a cover for my 16' C-Dory cruiser. Any leads or suggestions appreciated. Just need to do outdoor storage for the next few months. Thanks, Ben McCafferty, ben@kbmc.net

    Carpeting Trailer Bunks

I recently cut the carpet off my bunks, and replaced it with slick bunk. It's basically a slippery plastic that's molded to the shape of your 2x6 bunk--you slide it on, and screw it on each side at one end (so it can expand and contract with changes in temperature). Works great, lasts forever...

    04/12 - 04/13 - Cathlamet, WA

The 16' "Natural Blue" would probably be there as well, with kiddies and tiki drinks in tow. Finished my long anchoring system late last year, and had a good trial run on the Columbia for sturgeon in November. Can't wait to get out again, even at $3.50 per gallon... Keep us posted. bmc

    Chines and tracking

Thanks, Dave. You remind me of the plaque mentioned in a previous post: "Oh lord, thy sea is so big, and my boat so very small..." tx, bmc :beer

    Chines and tracking

thataway, Thanks, that helps a lot to let me visualize what's going on. Mind you, I run mainly in protected waters, but they get plenty bad for a little 16 footer. As many have noted, I am sure the 16 moves around more quickly/suddenly in rough seas (narrower beam, lighter weight), so here's...

    Chines and tracking

Thanks again to all--I do appreciate the varied input. Of course my first choice is avoidance of the seas mentioned, but I also want to be ready if and when I get caught, which we all do. For now I'll keep practicing and getting comfortable--I had made a decision when I bought the boat not to...

    Chines and tracking

thataway-- OK, we can argue about what they're called--strakes or chines--but you get the idea. I don't want a different type of boat, I want to improve the one I have (if it is indeed possible). So you mention slowing the boat down, it won't work, and possibly inducing other handling...

    Chines and tracking

Thataway: From Chapman's, "Some modern boats are designed with multiple chines (longitudinal steps) for a softer ride at high speeds in rough water; this is often referred to as deep-vee design. Larger round-bottom vessels may be built with bilge keels--secondary extenal keels at the turn of...

    Nagging details, changes

OK, thanks again. C-Otter, the 16 is just the opposite--I have one hull drain, and two motorwell drains. I'll look at them while I'm in all this, and with the boat only being two years old, I'll call C-Dory and see about warranty too. best, bmc

    Nagging details, changes

Thanks all, appreciate the tips. C-Otter, does "damage to the transom" simply show up as delamination of the balsa and glass, or something else? Fortunately, this boat only has 60 hours on it, mostly under my care in the past two months. Hopefully we're still ok. I'll pull the tube and have...

    Nagging details, changes

Hi again, Loving the new dory, but having some minor problems that some of you hopefully have easy fixes for. Also looking for ideas on a couple of additions, --The black plastic trim on the top of the transom has separated--recommended epoxy and or procedure for reattaching? --The brass...

    Chines and tracking

Hi all, Posted a while back about following seas, and have been experimenting with them since then. I've learned a lot and have gotten much more familiar with the dory. One thing I notice is that the boat is very willing to slip sideways and/or roll when I'm quartering off the following seas...
