    Leaky Fishboxes. Grrrr!

Charlie, Do you mean you removed the factory through-hulls for the bilge & macerator pumps, etc. glassed them over, and put them in again at a location higher up from the waterline? (I am assuming that what you are calling overboards I am calling through-hulls.) I tried the trick of drilling...

    Leaky Fishboxes. Grrrr!

Hmmm. Tom, I think your goals are admirable. I would love to get to that point, too. I drilled holes in the lip of the fishboxes and drained them into the bilges but it did not help much, if at all. Wondering if hatches similar to the Bowmar you installed for the rear compartment would also...

    Leaky Fishboxes. Grrrr!

Thanks, Tom -- but why not just let the fishboxes drain into the sponsons and then pump out with the bilge pumps? Warren

Making Tom Cat rear hatch watertight

Tom Little reports in this thread about a fishbox mod that he (and several other people) have made. There is a related modification that I would like to make in the cockpit, and that is to make the big hatch in the stern watertight. It is a major conduit for water into the compartment...

    Leaky Fishboxes. Grrrr!

Tom, do the 2 photos of the Marelon through-hulls have anything to do with the fishbox mods? If not, what are you directing our attention to in those 2 photos? Thanks, Warren

I left some items with him for resale and they got "lost". I might buy stuff from him but probably will not sell through him again. Warren

Need a Softer Mattress for Tomcat

OK, i finally got it. I thought you were talking about the sponson storage but you are talking about the chain locker forward and the two other compartments flanking it. I agree, a better solution and one I may implement on my TC as well. Warren

I am not visualizing this -- can you post photos? Thanks! Warren

Been looking at pics of all the mods you have done

I did my first project in my woodshop just before going to the Broughtons -- a shelf for the toaster oven and microwave out of Decraguard and teak trim to cover the ends of the Decraguard and a teak fiddle (I think that is the term) around the top to provide a lip. The fiddle looks pretty good...

bear attack and death in yellow stone

For your work, aren't you taught to put 3 rapid shots in the center of the body mass? I seem to remember that from something I read. Warren

Anchor windlass and kicker and CD 22

I bought a Torqueedo and now regret it. Would listen to the voice of experience (the folks I am cruising the Broughtons with now) and would join all of them in buying a 2 hp Honda. May still do so eventually. Warren

What does it take to change your life?

This must be a new trend. George Hone, from Nanaimo, is going on hiatus from West Marine and taking off for several months + on a similar trip. Hopefully he will see this and comment... Warren

SUCKED IN by Cheap Chinese Crap!

Jim, is that a utility trailer hooked to the back of your 5th wheel? Backing up must be fun with that setup, not to mention hooking up! AFAIK the Mountain States (& Texas) are the only places that kind of rig is allowed. Certainly not in OR/WA. Missing you and Joan here in the Broughtons, but...

    Brats in the Broughtons!

I've been keeping a blog of this cruise, mostly with automatically-generated SPOT posts, but with some commentary for the benefit of non-boating friends and family. If you are interested, you can check it out at www.c-doryman.blogspot.com Warren

SUCKED IN by Cheap Chinese Crap!

Makes perfect sense. Chinese crap generator in the parking lot of the Chinese crap store. But I am amazed that Wal-Mart lets campers run generators in their parking lots. Warren

Economy explained in less than 3 minutes

Well said, Lyle! One other thing that has not been mentioned thus far WRT how people vote is that far too often candidates and parties bundle cultural issues together with economic issues. I would probably vote for Republican economic policies at least part of the time if that were not the...
