Thoughts on RAM 1500 Eco Diesel

Having had a Dodge Cummins ( some consider it the best diesel ever made). Now have a 2011 Tundra ( 10,000 # ) tow rating. There is nothing economical about repair costs/ and parts for diesel motors, good mpg numbers would have to be in the stratophere to compensate for the higher ownership...

    Hull water

There was a Puget Sound area owner of a 26' Venture ( I think it was Rose Budd). Same problem, the water then migrates up the rear bulkhead because the bottom edge was left raw. I believe he spent upwards of $10,000 dollars for the repairs. I would suggest, a dry bilge area should be sought. I...

    Which heater?

The 40 EVO replaces the Air Top 3500. On start up the fan sequence does have a robust blowing noise, must have something to do with the Webasto starting method. But unlike the Wallas, it has never miss fired. Once up to running temp, the controller can be dialed down and the air noise is barely...

    Which heater?

I put a D30 ( Wallas) in a prior boat I had, it was finicky with fuel source ( carbon build up), sometimes would not fire up, and you had only one choice for parts or service ( no options ). Six months ago I installed a Webasto EVO 40, runs on diesel, has been working great, cost $1400 dollars...

    Purchasing in Canada

Buying the boat in BC, you might benefit from the exchange rate right now. I bought the Commander ( Canadian built ) and brought it into the US at the Friday Harbor US Customs Office. Blaine has a bad reputation, as does the Anacortes office. Customs broker I believe in Blaine was well worth...

Leak from bow pulpit stanchion base

After all the core repair work; camfer ( with a camfer drill bit) the top surface to be caulked. This provides a place for the sealant to ( o-ring ) around the fastener shank. Also solves the problem of all the sealant from sqeezeing out. With machine bolt hardware, turn the nut not the bolt...

Balsa core issues on the CD 16

Another sad result of a cored boat. Reality is, water goes in much easier than it drains out. Hard to believe that manufacturers are so careless when attaching things to a cored panel. But soon, they will not own it. I had this experience with a boat brand that had a cored hull bottom, then I...

    Suzuki 90 hp corrision problem

Did you have your motor at Master Marine ? Did they help with the problem? Very unfortunate situation ( manufacturer (suzuki) puts a ferrous metal item in the water jacket) where the consumer is at the losing end of this stupidity. Anyone that has any experience about galvanic corrosion would...

    Gelcoat crack or more?

Your pictures need to be a larger view to see the perspective of the damaged area. Though it looks like something was mounted there that left a gougeing mark below the opened crack. This does not look like a hairline crack in the gelcoat only. But a better visual is needed. Thanks, alan

Rosborough, C-Dory, Rosborough, C-Dory....oh the tough calls

I just put a Webasto EVO 40 in mine. Less than $1400. How did that 225 hp run ? Are you liking the decision regarding the boat ? alan

Rosborough, C-Dory, Rosborough, C-Dory....oh the tough calls

The last posting is very accurate about the boats cruising character, like " on rails". The keel is a significant influence. The boat you have found with a 225hp, is a great combination. Personally I have found the berth is very spacious. If more length is needed, remove the hanging locker...

    Water under salon deck.

Some Ventures have had water intrusion into the core problems, seems the factory did not encapsulate the cores very well.. The alaska bulkhead and the hull core meeting area seems to be a problem . Find the source and stop it. And the inspection access ports ( drying ports ) are a must. Try PM...

    Electric over hydraulic brake install

Done this on my trailer. Most of the boat trailer brake manufacturers have designed there disk brake system to the 1200 max psi rating. Tie Down being the main supplier, included. A pump rated at 1000 psi is enough, as the system operates at 500 to 600 psi according to Tie Down. alan

    Feedback on SEA TECH Trailers

I just bought a 8400 # capacity Load Rite aluminum from Dave's Boat Trailer Sales (410) 761-6460 for less than you have mentioned.

One bolt is leaking. Advice sought.

I have repaired many poorly sealed fittings. As mentioned, removing the core material is the best practice. I do this for round deck plates and rectangular hatches, 100% of the time. For a drill bit hole, I blue mask the underside. Then continue to feed laminating resin into the hole from the...

One bolt is leaking. Advice sought.

Do it right. Remove the rail, camfer all the holes with a camfer drill bit, bead of sealant around the hole, place rail pads down with fasteners installed, tighten by turning nut ( not the fastener ). This creates an o-ring sealant ring at the surface of the deck. Is your deck cored ? Yes ...
