Lessons Learned on the Alligator-Pungo River Canal (ICW)

Yes, the DSC is lovely though I've only kayaked the NC/VA Stateline - DSC Visitor's Center stretch (7 miles) a couple of times during the "Paddle for the Border". Later this summer, when The Captain can get some downtime, maybe we'll venture up to Elizabeth City and use that as a base for...

Lessons Learned on the Alligator-Pungo River Canal (ICW)

This past weekend The Captain and I took off "up north" on the ICW towards Columbia, NC. Lesson Learned #1: About 10 miles past Belhaven The Captain began having doubts about not stopping to top off on fuel since it was a 50 mile run to the next pit stop (we'd already gone through 3/4 of a...

    Jay's RETIRED !!

Jay, Best wishes on your "new" career. Now you'll have all the time you need to prowl the aisles of Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight and West Marine "just looking" and "wishing". And, since you're retired you now have the luxury of putting off until tomorrow what you could have done today...

weather warnings are for a reason.

"But it's only a mile" might have been their reasoning. However, they also did not heed the Paddler's Rule of 100 which basically means you shouldn't go out on the water if the water temperture and the air temperature, totalled, do not exceed 100 F. The Deckhand

    San Diego earthquake.

The Captain and I were on our way home from Wilmington when my daughter called from San Diego to chit-chat. 5 minutes into the call she said "On my God! We're having an earthquake" and hung. She called back less than a minute later and said all was okay and it wasn't that bad. Rattled some...

    Place for the summer

I'm kind of partial to where Sea Baby is homeported - Pamlico County, NC. Here it's 85 F and sunny 365 days a years! :) Easy access to the Pamlico Sound, Outer Banks, and the ICW (so we can go up and down the Eastern Seaboard). Of course, we do have to take into account the hurricane...

Attaching stuff - fuel tanks, fishing poles, etc

For your fuel tank you might consider getting some star board or PVC boards and cut 1-1/2 inch strips in lengths needed to frame in your fuel tank. Use marine adhesive to attach the strips to the deck. Might check West Marine or Wally World for rod holders that clamp to your canopy frame...
