    Boat Transport

I need help finding a company that could tow my 22ft'er from Oly. Wa, area to central Oregon coast. I've searched on the site and read some very scary stuff. Was going to use Dudley Boat Transport in Gig Harbor but it's out of business and there is a BBB warning on the company.

    STARTING ENGINE

Guys, I guess my humor is a little too dry. Mark, I was kidding about the wrench and trying to make the readers think a bit more about ohms law as it applies here. I was hoping I could make people see you can have the potential across the battery terminals "E" equal to zero but you'd also...

    STARTING ENGINE

Guys, So here's something to ponder. Put a wrench across the terminals of your starting battery as in a dead short. What would the terminal voltage E be then? E would go down to zero wouldn't it? What would the current, I, be at that moment? Zero right? It be OK to do this because as E goes...

    Radio Antenna Height

My guess is you don't actually have "static". Boat radios are FM (frequency modulated) and should be fairly immune to AM ( amplitude modulation) noise which static is defined as. If you completely disconnect the antenna at the radio do you still have the "static"? It's true a badly designed...

    What is this boat?

If you like the looks of the Maple Bay I'd bet you'd like this .... http://www.devlinboat.com/blackcrown30.htm' And with it's 200hp (vs Maple Bay's 35) it's more practical. Just beware the price but it's a beautiful boat inside and out. Ed.

    Dual Battery Jump Wiring

I'd be very careful about charging parallel batteries. For starters the two batteries should be as electrically identical as possible. Same group, manufacturer, and build date. The goal is identical internal resistance. Both batteries should be at a similar state of charge. Remember that...

    Buying a boat long distance

The question I have about buying/selling is how do you handle the transaction. You can't take personal checks. Bank/Certified checks are not secure. I've heard about escrow accounts. Any ideas?? Ed.

Two VHF Radio's and Two antennea

All, I think two radios are are a great idea. I remember going under the Tacoma Narrows bridge a few years ago and I had a handheld so I could talk to the guy in the skiff that was directing us on where to cross under while I never missed normal traffic with the main radio. I know you guys...

Two VHF Radio's and Two antennea

Hello all, Two antenna's on two radios will work but keep them as far apart as possible. The theory is as they say "beyond the scope" of this web page but a couple things will happen. One is the two antennas will couple to a varying degree. Antennas are tuned circuits so the transmitting radio...

    Uh Oh! II

U.S. DOJ, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics web page. In 2005 6.4% and in 2007 6.06% were "non-citizens" in federal and state prisons. Non-citizens means by the way both legals and non-legals.

I don't want to sell my boat

This is difficult but I need some help. I've had a boat since I retired 5 years ago. At first it was a lake sailboat then in 2006 I bought a 2006 C22. I got the C22 not only because I liked it but because my wife didn't like the sailboat. The problem is she has MS. Not severe but she's not...

    Is sonar really necessary?

I'd also like to mention that I use my fishfinder/sonar/echosounder or whatever you call it to tell me speed, water temp, battery and charging voltage as well. It's also GPS/WAAS capable and gives some NAV data. I even play a little with the NMEA interface to my laptop. It wasn't expensive either.

    Balsa Core question

Once and for all, what parts of a CD-22 (newer than 2002) are balsa cored?? Isn't the transom marine plywood?? Are the hull and deck the only balsa cored parts?? Then that begs the question how would they bond a plywood transom to a balsa cored fiber glass hull? I ask because I've got screwed...

    More signs of global warming

can we please avoid politically motivated POV and references to unqualified blogs and sources. Lets stay with discussing what makes this a great site, our boats and boating. This is a slippery slope.
