Anyone done a dinette bed modification?

I'll do some checking but I thought that I remembered a brat finding a cot of similar height and with the dinette lowered they were able to put a thin air mattress across making it a good sized bed. The only issue was obviously that it was more or less impassable when up but the cot was folded...

    C-Dory Panel ???

Mine didn't come with one either (not that this was a poll of any sorts) but that does look a lot more sturdy and would not put nearly the tension on the table like my hinge job. On a positive note I don't have the worry of storing it when not in use.

New combination VHF radio, AIS reciever/Hailer

I just purchased one for the SH Matrix GX2100W for $300 and added the RAM3 Second Station mic. Although I have been closely following the threads I pulled the trigger because even it it can't be integrated fully with my Lowrance Radar and Plotter I felt that having the information displayed on...

    Radar Arch

I have seen a few boats with the radar arch at the front of the house with a forward cant on them. I thought about it for the but in the end opted to go with the standard aft positioning with a very slight aft lean on the back to facilitate easy access to rod holders despite it being an optimal...

Rode: 3 Strand vs 8 Plait Brait

I know exactly what you are talking about, had the same problem using the Lewmar Premium 8 plait rode. It is not a manufacturing defect, rather the distance between the windlass and the line in your anchor locker is less than the recommended 12" (the line doesn't have enough weight to keep...

    Fire Extinguisher Location

On Hayesie Daze, we have one mounted under the galley, one mounted under the rear dinette seat and one mounted in the v-berth. Other locations seem standard but I feel having one in the v-berth is important in the event something happens with the kerosene for the Wallas or an electrical issue...

    Has USCG gone nuts?

Best guess here is that they were weight testing the sling load strength of the aircraft. I'm pretty certain every six months or so the aircraft has to sustain a specific weight for a specific amount of time as a safety check to ensure the airframe performs as designed.

    Trim Tabs for 22' cruiser

I am a newbie, but here are somethings that I considered when pondering the same question (I ended up just getting the Bennett Trim Tabs): 1) The Trim Tabs seem to allow more control at slower speeds. Useful in moderate chop, where the Permatrim would seem to rely on engine speed for...

    Radar wiring solutions

Radar type is a Lowrance 1800 and it still has a separate processor. Panhandle Boats set me straight and put me on to cable entry waterproof fittings that should work perfectly. Some can be found at http://www.downwindmarine.com/Cable-Out ... c-510.html

    Radar wiring solutions

Hello all! Been searching and reading through threads for a couple of days no with no luck. Issue is that I finally got an arch installed (fabricated locally) and got the radar mounted, the issue is that the cable plug is 1" diameter and so is the tube so I am unable to run the wiring through...

    help with search

Good morning, I also have the breaker on behind the helm seat, but I placed the control in the upper right hand corner of the helm console, as far over toward the window and as high as possible for ease of anyone operating it to glance at while keeping the windlass in view...works great...

Marine Grade Aluminum versus Stainless Steel

Mike, I actually purchased a radar mount (powder coated marine aluminum w/ integrated searchlight mount) but unfortunately its not going to work with an inflatable on the roof. The are a great option but there just isn't enough room on the cabin top. Thanks Byron

Marine Grade Aluminum versus Stainless Steel

Thanks Joe, those questions put it in perspective for us. They do use thicker aluminum but it would remain unpainted. They told me that all that would happen is that the aluminum would turn darker over time. As you stated though, anyone interested in the boat later on would definitely want...

Marine Grade Aluminum versus Stainless Steel

Looking for some expert advice on having a radar arch fabricated locally. I know that stainless is 5 times stronger than aluminum, but does that really matter for a radar arch which will never (hopefully) have its tensile strength tested? The majority of the recreational boats up here in...

    Mounting radar arch

Charlie it looks awesome, I had the same type of mount fabricated for our GoLite to minimize holes through the cabin roof. Thank you for the tip...off to Home Depot I go. Byron

    Mounting radar arch

Quick question, the snow is finally starting to melt up here so I am getting ready to do a bunch of installs and wanted to know what type of hole saw is best to cut through fiberglass...even as specific as a brand if you could. I've been told bi-metal is fine but the teeth look like they would...

    Bimini Top

Charlie, Just curious how these Taylor Bimini tops have held up for you? Your photos show you moving at a pretty good clip with it up. While it not be a Sunbrella custom back, the $3000 price difference looks like it will be a good alternative for me right now...well for the boss at least...
