04/01 - 04/03 Cathlamet, WA

Sturgeon? Did someone mention sturgeon? Well let me tell you, the best sturgeon fishing will be at the C-brat 2nd annual sturgeon Festival at Warrenton Oregon. Just as soon as Tyboo or Tim figure out a date. You won't want to miss this event.

Saw an article in the local news paper saying that the little Westprot Ferry will be down for a couple of weeks in March. I know that some of us Oregonian types have taken it to get to Cathlamet so we'll hope it's up and running by the gathering. Maybe Larry will give us an update as time gets closer.

FYI - Just got my Feb 24th - March 10 issue of Washington Fishing and Hunting mag. They have a short feature (2-3 pages) on Cathlamet springer fishing. Decent little map and some suggestions on technique. I'm already starting to dream about reeling them in....

Planning on fishing Cathlamet this weekend. Have you heard of any reports Larry? Sounds like things are picking up a bit upstream. Maybe this shot of rain will get fish moving?

I haven't started fishing them yet, but the locals are telling me that they expect things to start picking up this week. Good luck and let us know how you do.
Come to think of it, you probably won't be around a computer to notify us. When are you going to be arriving here? I'll come down to meet you.

Hey, that would be great Larry. I'm a little uncertain if I will be showing up Friday night or Saturday morning as I write. Will know later in the week and will post my plans or contact you directly.

I talked to the captain of the ferry today. The ferry will be having maintenance/repairs starting on March 7th. It is expected to be inoperable for about 2 wks.

Tim, hope to see you this weekend.

Hi,

I hope that this event isn't already full - I'd like to sign my family up for its first C-Dory gathering. I hope we're not the only ones with small children...

Will be dragging cut plug throughout the day. Can someone describe the shoreside facilities? Playground nearby?

Thanks,

Dan, Esther & Ellie Sweet

These events are never full! You and your family are certainly welcome. We'll have Tiffany (11) and Jamie (8) with us, and they like kids of all sizes.

There are clean and modern shower and restroom facitlities at the marina. The whole town is within walking distance, and the people are very friendly. I don't recall any playgrounds proper, but it is a neat area for exploring with trails all over and a mini museum close by.

We'll see you there!

From the Town of Cathlamet Official Web Site - info on a nearby park...

Strong Park -
This two acre park is located on the Cathlamet waterfront on the shoreline of the Columbia River adjacent to the Wahkiakum County Museum.

Strong Park includes the following:
*Bernie Creek Bridge and the G. Alan Johnson lighted "waterfront trail", connecting Strong Park to the Elochoman Marina and to the Columbia River beach area
*Historical locomotive and mural
*Picnic tables and benches
*Special Columbia River’s Cathlamet Channel - "viewing benches" - offering the visitor a site from which to observe passing ocean going vessels.
*FFA fish rearing project
*Master Gardener’s "Butterfly Garden"

Can't find out if they have swings etc. but should be a fun place for the kids to explore.

PS - I'll be VERY interested in how this weekend's fishing goes[/code]

Just caught up on this post. Not sure if the lovely Terrie and I will be there or not. Still trying to sell the "Denebola" but I'm sure if we showed up with just gear and herring we could find a foster boat.

Hey guys/gals

I just talked to Harbormaster Jackie. She wanted to know if and how many of us wanted to use shore power. The overnight mooring is $6 and an additional $4 for power. This will affect whether she puts us on E dock or C dock. I gave her this website address and she will be monitoring this discussion and Cathlamet Events signup.

NOTES: This is Elochoman Marina's busiest time of the year. It is a small harbor, so we will be rafting our boats for the gathering. Also, I would advise everyone to try and make it there on Friday night/evening. There will be a long line at the boat launch on Saturday morning. This is a popular fishing area for the day use fisherman.

If I make it (and I am damned determined) I will desire shore power.
I may be floating down the big C to significantly shorten the tow.
Hope to see you all there. Cross your fingers.

The three girls, and maybe the two dogs, who will be aboard want very much to have shore power. I don't really care, but then, that doesn't really count.

I glanced at the tides, and it looks like a Friday evening cruise up the creek is first choice for us. Catman is responsible for the weather.

It's getting close...............

SeaDNA will be there and DEFINITELY wants shore power. I plan to need it to run the vacuum packer for the fish we WILL catch! (unless I just screwed my luck with over optimism). Looking forward to it.

Roger
