04/10 - 04/11 - Cathlamet Cruise

The weather forecast is nothing short of delightful!

Bob, I hope we at least get to see you....

I will be monitoring VHF 16 for those of you in the neighborhood.

Yea, I'm excited.......

Mike, are you gonna be able to make it?

Ray the floating theater will be there bring DVD's if you like. I will have a couple new matrix, black adder, south park see what else I grab.

Looking forward to seeing you there and doing some fishing and eating.

Getting excited myself last time I was out for real was last October in Newport.

Fishing Buddies

I've been using a double hook mooching setup with a small bead slid down the leader.... then I slide an RSK down on top of the bead..... about 5-6 ft of leader to a bead swivel. For lead I'm using a 2 ft. drop line with 3 oz. cannon ball sinker.
Green label herring.

Others are catching them on the same setup but with plug cut herring instead of the RSK. RSK = Rotary Salmon Killer

Hey Pat, what the heck does all that mean? I think we are in trouble with the knowledge curve on all of this. Hope some people down there are ready for a couple of neophytes.

We can always pay for lessons with good beer! :beer :beer :beer :beer

Larry S,

You slide the RSK down on the bead :?: :? . Are you just using it as a spinner? Or is it actually clamped on to the herring?

David,
It's just beginning . Knee-O-Fight: The bruises one gets from digging their knees into the gunnel while trying to battle that first salmon.

Well, I have been assigned 1 metric but ton of homework!
My boat will list to one side with all the books I will have to bring but I am bringing them anyway.
I still have to check the bearings on one side of the trailer and get packed. I need to make the Tuna salad and get a menu together an all that stuff and grab a movie. So it looks like Friday will be more reasonable as far as plans go. You never know though.... I NEED BOAT TIME!

Well I slid out of bed at 3:00 AM finished loading stuff and hooked up the trailer. Made it in to work at 5:30 still have my hopes up about getting out of this hole by noon .... Could make it to Cathlamet by dark. Might be a good idea to check the guide book and see what the best place to overnight would be if I have to stop short.

Larry I got all that stuff but the green label herring. Seems that everyplace I have looked is out. Know if the Marina has bait ? I did grab some blue label so I've got something.

Ray good luck with them bearings and see you tomorrow

Larry - translated into English, this means ???? Will this stuff be available to buy in Catchlimit somewhere near the marina?

Just show up, we'll get you started. You'll be surrounded by some very good anglers this weekend. I'm just guessing that the beer guy will get more help and fishing tips than he can use. There is a reason they call Ray "Mr. Fisherman". Tim was a pro at one time. Lyle could teach a class. And these Columbia fish tremble & shake at the mere mention of "Blue C"...... and those are just some of the C-Brats that will be here. :wink

Herring can be purchased here in town.

Yea, every time I bring up an upcoming fishing trip my wifes says "Look here Mr. Fisherman....""

Sure looking forward to getting out there....

Might have to use a little PA time

Ya, those fish tremble and shake at the mention of B~C.. from laughter. As Larry says, you guys will have no shortage of help. It's shaping up to be a fun weekend, I'm going to throw the boat in at Kalama tomorrow afternoon and float on down. M is going to drive down saturday.

Ya, Tim use to be a pro. Tim did so well at it that he had to sell the boat and get a real job that he could earn a living with. I'd bring lots of beer and trade it to one of the guys you see netting their clients fish and ask them for help.

Tim

Hey youz, I have a limited number of keyless entry systems that will work on boats...anybody interested? I'll bring them to Cathalamet if so

Keyless entry! If it aint a rock I might be interested as my lock seems to have a vision problem.... It can't see working to lock the door.

If it is a rock I can understand why you have a few on hand. Sooner or later someone has to get one IN the boat  jk.

Hoping to watch a movie tonight with Stevej.

I still plan to head down tonight. Got it cleared with the better half :D .

Just got off the phone with Larry, he has one on the boat and they are still fishing. He is seeing lots being caught today so my hopes are high.

He is trolling RSKs with green lable Herring.

He mentioned that there may be an issue with parking trailers at the lot as room is precious. He may be able to let some of us park trailers at his house.

See you there...

Last one there is a rotton Easter Egg!

Getting really excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Larry, I got lots of purple label herring. Too big?

Also, Motor up :thup or down :thdown when trailering? My dealer said down but last time we were out I noticed that the bottom fin on my main was bent :amgry. I know I didn't hit anything so it could have only happened while on the trailer.

What say ye pubbies?

Jon

WD, trailer your rig with motor up and locked. It distributes the weight on the transom better and you won't be hitting your lower end on a curb..... or a flat tire.

Regarding the bead. I use it to put my hook in good position. I'll show you what I mean when you get here. Don't worry if you don't have them, I have a few extras.

I'm not familiar with purple label herring, blue is the next size larger than the green. I have a few extra green label herring on hand also.

If anyone has problems finding space to park your trailer, call me. You can park it in my yard 2 miles from the launch. Saturday will be difficult to find trailer parking near the launch. This is a peak weekend for springers. Lotsa fish caught today, we had several bites after our late start.... Lyle caught a 15 pounder. :thup

It's a big nope for the TyBoo crew. Got too much going on. Our house got a lot smaller over the past week, but the CD25 got closer to just the right size. Anyhow, the latest new crew members have things they got to do. Like breakfast with the Easter Bunny, Easter egg hunts, and -yep - church on Sunday morning.

You all have a great time, and we'll meet up with the bunch soon, I would guess.

Larry S,

Excited to here the bite is on :D :D.

The purple label is one size below the black and I think one size above the blue. We use them for the Fall nook and also get big Coho on a purple cut plug. I'll pick up some green and bring the purple. If everyone in town is dragging a green one I'll probably want to go with a different size.

We are staying up at the Island View B&B. I'll give you a call when we hit town, hoping that will be about 6am Sat.

What channel should I monitor on the VHF?

Jon
