04/11 - 04/13 - Cathlamet

I'll give the marina a call today and see what they have going on in April.

I fear fishing could be shut down after Easter & as the season progresses the fishing generally slows down downriver...cuz Mikes been hammering on them so I'll check on the week before

I have noticed many folks find religion when they're hooked up to a big halibut. More than once somebody will be about ten minutes into battling a big one and I hear "oh Jesus" chanted repeatedly....I always point out that if they reel up Jesus, I'm quiting

I'm going to clean some of the boating stuff out of my shed and use it for bingo prizes...if anybody is interested in some bingo action

How about road kill & bingo?

I told the nice lady at the marina to brace themselves for a C-Dory invasion April 10, 11 and 12. I reserved the roadkill BBQ area for Saturday night the 11th....I may bring some fish I could cook up just in case Roger doesn't limit out.

Tyboo Mike, are you game? gotta have Mike there

IT'S ON

I'm in Las Vegas right now. Don't bug me.

Have to go see George Strait on the 11th but I should be able to work it into the social calendar for Saturday. Sounds like great fun. It's been too long since we did that. How am I going to get there, I wonder?

Ken,

I did the web site brouse. No fees mentioned for moorage, launch or parking. Maybe you can find out and post since that info is not on their site.

I did the reservation request form on line.

I would stay on the boat at the dock (preference) instead of on of their cabins or yurts. May have company that would RV there but to soon to know.

Interested in cruising the river, fishing -- not so much.

Harvey, a cruise through the back waters to Astoria would for sure be on the menu.
For some reason that web site doesn't mention the marina part of the equation much. As far as reservations, I told the harbormaster to expect 10-15 boats, she said they'll clear the runway and to just have folks check in when they show up.

Mike- Vegas, lucky dog, did you see any strange people? It would be great if you could make a guest appearance, long time, no see.

Moorage space is never a problem at Cathlamet. The facilities (showers, restrooms and eating area) are excellent. The town is only a 2-3 block walk away. There are many good side trips to be taken within 15 miles of the marina including the route through the Clifton and Prairie channels to Tongue Point (Astoria). There's a good launching ramp and fuel but no fuel service on Sunday for those of you who will be coming down on the river.

Speaking of coming down on the river, the Coast Guard has removed the buoys marking the channel on the eastern half of Cathlamet Bay so unless you're familiar with the bar that runs across it midway down the better choice is to come in from the west.

Is there going to be a sign up sheet for this one? Joe & Ruth need a place to sign up, 'cause I know they're just itchin' to take their new-to-them boat to a gathering.

Got my reservation. When I called the marina, it took a bit for them to get that yes, I wanted to launch there, and leave pickup and trailer attached, didn't need an RV spot, and that yes, I did plan to sleep on the boat. But we made it, and sounds all good. Looking forward to the "backwater tour". I kind of thought one day down river and one day up river but I'm pretty easy.

Thanks for setting this one up.

Well poo, it looks like springer fishing will be closing on the 7th.

How about a friday night dinner and bs session and a Saturday cruise to Astoria and lunch at the old cannery museum. Cathlamet has a nice area for potlucking saturday night.

If it's it fishing most crave, we could move this thing up a week or folks are welcome to jump on my boat. I' m going to tie up in ridgefield and try to fish about every day of the season

Hey Ken,

The trip still sounds fun to me...really like the idea of bunch of boats heading into Astoria for lunch (will be glad to follow local through the river from Cathlamet into the marina).

Come on Northwest Washington gang...how many of you will come down south for this awesome cruise on the Columbia????

Later,

Crazy John Frazey

Just double-checking...is 4/10-4/12 correct for this one?

That's Thursday-Saturday, not Friday-Sunday. I'm going to try and make it, and either work for me...but for the poor working saps amongst us, I'm guessing one of those periods is better than the other. :P

Hey Ken,

Interested in the cruising. Since I wasn't planning on fishing anyway, the weekend already set up is fine with me. Could move if I had too.

hey Harvey, I didn't think you would have any problem with the fishing closing.

this thing has to be a weekend gig, it was intended to be a weekend gig from the start.....I'm still trying to figure out how to use a calendar

that reminds me, where the heck is Brock

I like cats, in fact I'll give a cat to everybody that comes to the Cathalametstan gathering, unless you would rather have a free "on anchor" day shape

we may have to coerce ChuckP to lead they way through the swamps. I've been through there once and it was following him. We can always run out and play in the Columbia river bar.....or not

Ken. If it is that Myan calendar thing.....ah think it expired so maybe we just show up on the dates you pick and hang around over the weekend. See you there.
