04/11 - 04/13 - Cathlamet

Hey all
- I admit I'm just being lazy here (my regs are buried in the boat) but when exactly is Springer season on the Columbia this year?
Rob

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Anticipating a strong return of spring chinook salmon, fishery managers from Washington and Oregon today set the initial 2014 fishing season to run through April 7 on the lower Columbia River.

Starting March 1, anglers fishing downriver from Bonneville Dam may retain one marked, hatchery-reared adult spring chinook per day. The sport fishery will close in that area on two Tuesdays - March 25 and April 1 - to accommodate potential commercial fisheries.

I found it here.

Rats - that's the one weekend we can't make it. Perhaps someone can't describe the highlights assuming, ahem, I don't read about it in the paper :). We'll probably head downriver for a week in the summer so it's certainly inspirational.

good deal, I think it's been about six years since had a get together there so you haven't missed any. should to fun

By the way Ruthi & I hope to cruise down to Cathlamet on Friday 4/11. We hope to be leaving from the Jantzen Beach area. (Columbia Crossings) I guess we will be weather dependent.
If anyone wants to buddy boat down let me know.
Raven Dancer.

We are signed up for this Gathering & were looking forward to it, but now think we won't be attending. With a trip to California to see old friends & family planned on the way to Cathlamet, it makes leaving here in wintery Wyoming to early. Instead we will be making the Friday Harbor Gathering followed by an up to six week cruise around there & up toward Prince Rupert, how far depending on how well JoLee can now handle the cruising with her ongoing recovery from back surgery. The arrival of our fourth grandchild due in mid July will cut this cruise short, but should let us know whether or not JoLee will be up for another summer long cruise in Southeastern Alaska in 2015.

sorry to hear you wont be stopping in Jay, it's sounds like you have a lot on your plate...take care

we'll be steaming out of Ridgefield friday afternoon, maybe we'll run into you Dave.

there hasn't been many fish caught yet, I'll bet they extend the season for us just for us

they where going to close off a dock for us. all folks need to do is check in once they arrive and square up with the harbormaster.

They have a great covered bbq/ potluck spot, I signed us up to use it saturday night

It looks like there should be plenty of water in the river :) I'll wager that the springer fishing season will still be open for folks that want to fish. I hope it's open and we can catch one for Saturday potluck....otherwise I'll be cooking up delicious filet O' northern pikeminnow

springer season extended till the 14th ...it's going to be lights out fishing by then.

It's going to be great weather...can't wait

Would LOVE to be there, but it is my "bachelor" weekend, Patty will be in Kennewick, and I will be holding down the fort here in Birch Bay. I have very fond memories of Cathamet, where Oscar nearly got eaten!

Ken,
If the stars align and work does not get in the way. Cathy and I will be bringing our camper down to the gathering, just not enough time to get the boat ready by Friday.

Sounds like fun! I missed the part about the springer season being extended. I'm sorry I'll miss it. Mostly for missing time spent with the C-Brats and trying to catch a springer. But not too sorry since I'm laying out on a beach in the Big Island of Hawaii! Have fun! :smilep

Pat, maybe instead of Cathalametstan, we should all head to Birch Bay to PARTY. I don't think that sea lion was going to eat Oscar, I think he just wanted to get intimate with him....that was a while back.

I can't believe folks would pass up a trip to Cathlamet for a trip to the big island....man that's a poor reason

Larry, my boat will have room for a few extra anglers/cruisers

it should be a fine weekend

I'm passing up Cathlamet and I'm not going to any sized island. Just can't make it this weekend. I'll miss you guys more than you'll miss me for sure. Have a good time and don't sully the C-Brat brand. Should be safe - last I heard there were no bars in the town.

DamnitMike...well take care & we'll catch you later

I think I have a few pounds of halibut I can incinerate for a Saturday potluck. I'm thinking an early morning fishing trip & then come back to port to offload the catch & then cruise on down the river to invade Astoria..........input?

Ken,
Maybe you can find some "floaters" on your way down river. I'll bring costco dogs in case you have slim pickings.
We will be invading Cathlamistan by land Friday afternoon.
See you there!
