Will start a new thread for actual planning for May 2-3-4

New threads aren't any fun. There has to be a page or two of rambling to make things look official. This one has been put on the Calendar and the Signup is in place.

We may miss this one, even though we signed up. I have a municipal attorney conference Wednesday through Friday, and we will be leaving Whistler, B.C. at noon on Friday. No chance at all that we would make it to Jarrell's Cove by Friday night, and it is a pretty big production to bring Daydream on Saturday for just one night...we will be playing it by ear, we'll see. I mentioned taking the 16 and camping, and did not get a favorable reaction!

Patti, I have it on good authority that there is a wonderful rehab center on Hartstene Island. "Miracle Waters", or some such thing. Better come and check it out.

Pat, If you don't make it down, well, you two will be greatly missed. :sad I bet if the :hot is shining on your drive down from Whistler, you may just tow Crabby Lou down to the cove.

I will bring some of your great :beer to share with folks just in case you aren't there.

The shelter at Jarrell cove near the long dock is reserved - for Saturday afternoon and evening. I am guessing most will arrive on Saturday.

It would help to have an approximate count for those arriving Friday afternoon so that we can decide if she should reserve the picnic shelter for Friday evening as well. Its about $60/ day + $7 Registration fee for the shelter.

Thanks

Jim

I started getting things together for spot prawn season and went to mark up my calendar and noticed that this get together right here in our backyard is in conflict with the first day of shrimp season. We expect to be up near Edmonds Sat AM but might make it down to the gathering by the dinner hour. We shall have to see. Them prawns are not a thing we will miss out on. FYI, their are no spot prawns in the south sound.

Any good recommendations for ramps on the sound coming from the north end on 101. We were thinking not to tow all the way to Jarrell Cove. We went into Shelton to check that one. Let's just say it would be challenging, no dock and looked like it just ran down into the mud.

Hope to make it on Friday, late.

Yes Shelton has yet to seek grant money for a public launch and dock. The run out though very nice has some of the more shallow water in the south sound and will keep you on the edge of your seat if the tide is at all low.
If I were you I would take 101 to I-5 NB go a few miles and take the port of Oly exit come across downtown and put in at Swan Town marina. The only downside is that you have a long no wake run out from the ramp. The other option is to go just two more exits and get off at Slater/Kenney road (if you assume you are going North on I-5 then you want to go West on Slater Kenney or off and over the freeway. Google Zittles which is out near Johnson Point. This is a small private marina with a good protected ramp with a dock. By water, this is the closest ramp on the mainland side of things. Once you get on Johnson Point road you just come out to near the end and a clear sign for Zittles Marina will get you there.

Robbi, as I recall their are a few fire pits and I think a few raised fire cooking stands. I will buz over their over the next few days and check this out. If I am right though charcoal would also be a good idea for some to bring.

Darn it, we've been wanting to do a South Sound cruise for three years and wouldn't you know it, we'll be out of town for our daughters graduation from WSU. Sorry but we'll miss this one.

Well, we cannot make it until Saturday morning any way you slice it, but I floated the idea of just driving the Titan to Jarrell Cove State Park and sleeping in the back under the canopy (not a camper). A definite maybe. Another idea would be to launch the 16 at Zittles, boat in, and sleep in a tent (probably going to be vetoed). One day I will solve the problem of sleeping two in a CD16 Angler, but not in time for Jarrell Cove! One way or another, we will show up on Saturday!

Steve, I think that you are right about the raised bbq pit. As I recall, that was put in two years ago right before our last get together there. I think we were the first to use it. It worked great for our potluck.

Peter and Caryn, Sorry that you won't be able to make it, but how cool, a daughter graduating from WSU. Congrats all around.

Pat and Patty, Good to hear that you will make it. You know another option would be to bring the Titan and the 16, launch at the ramp at the bridge to Harstine and have both truck and boat at the park. It is only a few miles to the park.

I know that they were working on the ramp and the dock at this launch earlier in the winter, and I am not sure if it is open. If that is an option for anyone, we can ask Jim if the ramp is open. I would not recommend leaving a car there overnight.

Robbi

You are correct they just laid new gravel in the parking area and still have fence around the whole area - concrete posts but no dock - no place to launch there until they open it. -However it may be open by May 1 - I will post as soon as I see it open -as I pass there several times per week.
