05/04 - 05/05 - Lopez Opening Day 2007

Starcrafttom,

"Sarge" is what my guys called me when I was a cop (Retired 6 years now), and "GiGi" is what my son called his Great Grandmother, my wife's grandmother. She was a wonderful woman who accepted me into the family and who I admired greatly. She recently passed away and I thought the name would bring good karma to our family boat.

One thing my 18 years on the force taught me...never judge a book by its cover. You never know who might be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Hope to see you up there.

-Sarge

Sarge -

Welcome to the Brats. We're heading up on Friday as long as our boat gets delivered in time - leaving from South Whidbey (Cultus Bay) so you'll be coming right past us. We won't be going as fast as you (Ranger 25), and will chose the route (East or West side of Whidbey) depending on wind and waves Friday morning. I'm pretty sure Tim (Two Lucky Fish's new owner) is coming from Edmonds marina at the same time.

We'll keep an eye out for you (and a radio look out too - channel 16)

Sarge just giving you a hard time. I figured there was a story in there some were. sorry to her about your loss., but your right karma is a good thing to have. I was hoping that sarge was a marine handle I need another jarhead with all these squids around here. hope to see you at lopez

Careful, Tom -

You are outnumbered! My bro-in-law is a Chosin Few Jarhead. Good fisherman too, but now in TX. You can imagine our days out fishing together!!

The only reason I haven't chimed in about joining up for a flotilla to Lopez is that I'm not sure which day we'll leave. I'm thinking about taking the trip up over two days, to make it easier on the family.

But with that caveat, I'm enthusiastic about making the trip in convoy, if my schedule overlaps with anyone else's. We should probably collect names, starting ports, and cell phone numbers over the next few weeks, along with our plans, so we can coordinate right up to the last minute.

Actually, how about I take this on; I'll serve as a clearinghouse for contact info, much of which would be inappropriate to post publicly. Anybody who might want to convoy up to Lopez from points south of Deception Pass, email or PM me your cell number, boat info (name, size, and color, at least, so we can ID one-another on the water), starting port, and provisional departure day/time and route preference. I won't post any of this here. I'll distribute the info only to those from whom I have received contact info, ensuring at least some measure of control over the distribution of your info. Obviously, if you're uncomfortable with this arrangement, by all means don't send me anything!

This way, much of the discussion can occur here in public, but if plans change and you want to clarify or discuss plans with another boat you were thinking of joining up with, you'll have the contact info already even if it's too late to check back on C-Brats.

I figure, since "Two Lucky Fish" is hosting the event, I ought to pitch in at least a little bit. :-)

At the 2006 Lopez gathering someone (sorry senior moment) set up arrangements for us to get USCG vessel safety checks while we were there. That was great. Does anyone know if something similar is possible for this year??

Couple of updates -

Opening Weekend is going to be pretty crowded at Lopez Island Resort. They have us (of course), the Seattle Yacht Club (I think) - and the Lopez Island Yacht Club is having an event there on Saturday, complete with Pig Roast (?) on the front lawn - the restaurant banquet is booked for those 120 people Saturday. That will be a great day for our potluck on the dock

I did learn that they suffered some dock damage this winter, so that there are a few slips that can't be used (the ones farthest out) and there will not be water available on the docks. (There will be water at the gas dock).

If we are interested in a group, sit down at the same time, dinner banquet on Friday, we should pre-order so they can have enough for us. I have a copy of their menu, but haven't figured out how to post it here. Or, we can just go in smaller groups and order in the restaurant. That sure seems simplier to me - since we will all be arriving on different times....
Please let me know your preferences - at this point I'm not going to book the banquet room (seems way too complex to pre-order...)

I'm guessing that many people have called Lopez for reservations, but haven't signed up on our Event signup. The person I talked with says he signed up 20 Brats boats himself and he only works two days a week! So... it looks like we are going to have quite a turnout!

See you all there!

Mac

I vote for simple...go in groups order whatever, and...thank Two Lucky Fish er..Island Ranger with ample libations, (Is Island Ranger going to be christened??, I may need to bring a higher class of christening nectar.)

David on Anna Leigh can do USCG safety checks I believe...

Barry, I am a Vessel Examiner with the CGAux and will be there with my forms and stickers. There will also be another member from my flotilla in a....Bayliner who is also an VE. In fact he needs to do my boat for the new year also.

I will try and post a list of the things you need to have in the next couple of days.

David,

That's very nice of you. Thank you. I seem to recall a signup sheet floating around the dock area so things could be coordinated, would that be OK with you?? And, your friend is even more appreciated since he will be in C-Dory territory in a bayliner

I still haven't figured out how to add the Islander Resort menu to this message, so I stuck a copy in my Ranger album if anyone is interested.

An alternative for Friday dinner could be Bay Cafe. It has been one of our favorite places on Lopez. It is an easy walk, not very big but it is pretty spendy. OK for a celebration - like a new boat or something. I'd recommend reservationshttp://www.bay-cafe.com/

Called Kathy this afternoon - she found a spot for Dakota on a 40 foot dock next to a 22. She said if I was sure I had a 19 she could fit me in.
I've never measured my boat, but C-Dory says its a 19.
Looking forward to it. See everyone there!
Tom
