Awesome as usual! Barry did a great job organizing. Joyce and I left Kenmore around 8AM and were out off the N end of Jones Island dropping pots around 12:30. The current was ripping so we wound up pulling them with only a dozen or so and heading over to Fri. Harbor. Arrived around 2-ish, got docked and went through the usual chit-chat etc. We had land-based accommodations (Earthbox Hotel - nice, pricey but dog friendly) so we went up there and checked in. Went out in the evening for the high slack tide and limited out on shrimp in about 1.5 hours. Came back in (more chit chat) and hit the hay after eating some very greasy pizza.

Back out Sat. AM for the morning low and had Pat on board. Hopes were high for more shrimp but the tides were ripping and my estimate of dropping the pots 2 hours prior to the low was a bit too early. Chased the pots around and wound up dropping them again about 20 mins before low tide. Went around the corner to the Jones dock for 25 mins to get the dog on shore but were worried about a suspicious boat that was hanging around with a big davit and puller but no pots out. Got back and pulled the pots. The first 2 pots had 1 or 2 shrimp each and one of them was missing a cable tie I had on it to hold the lid shut. Looked like those two were pulled while we were on shore. The third pot had about 25 shrimp in it. Pulled that and called it a day for shrimping.

Back to land and spent about 1.5 hours trying to get my anchor light working. Had power to the fuse, power on the other side of the switch, working bulb but no power at the connector. Couldn't find the open and gave up on it. With no anchor light, I was resigned to not shrimping the evening slack tide. Too bad, that would've been the easy one to limit on. Took a lovely nap and then found our way back to the evening pot luck. As always, lots of great food, drink and company. Barry had prizes to give away and I was lucky enough to win a C-Dory jacket by answering the easy question: "Who has the most posts on the C-Brat site?" - of course it's Sea Wolf Joe. Lots of fun was had by all. Of course Ruth brought the standard (but excellent) C-Brat cake and as I said before, Barry ran a classy show.

Left there around 8AM this morning and was in my driveway by 11:45. Got the boat emptied and cleaned up (much better than it was at the gathering) and had some grilled spot prawns and risotto for lunch. Now I'm being lazy for an hour or two prior to heading down to Drano lake for a Mon morning spring king trip. In the words of Patrick Byrd, life is good.

Barry and Patti,

Thanks for putting on such a great CBGT. Good fun, great turnout, fantastic C-Brats, and supracalafragulisticexpealidoscious weather. Great to see everyone.

I have to take the hit for being the early morning wakeup call, and we and JCLately crew were up around 0330 for a early morning, dark, launch and leave the marina at 0440. Still to dark to run full out, but light enough to see for 7 knots. By the time we made the port turn at the Sequim Bay entrance outer marker, it was light enough to go and we got to the bumpy part and sunrise at about the same time. Slowed a bit, and spent about 5 miles in 2-3 foot beam seas. Apparently we were making some big splashes, but it was doable. Had salt on the cabin top when we got to FH. North of mid strait, the waves settled some and we were able to get back up to the ~13-5 we were at before. Being early in the day, and since this really was a boating weekend too, we opted to go around San Juan Island the long way, stop at Roche harbor for Breakfast, and then continue on down to Friday Harbor. Mosquito Pass was beautiful, and Yellow (or Wasp) Island didn't look exactly covered with spring flowers yet. Saw our first C-Dory from the CBGT there, SusanE, out setting pots.

Had a really nice visit with many of the Brats. Got a look at Pingu, and even knew the story about the name, (thanks, Sarge) and won a new C-Dory hat for getting that question right at the pot luck trivia contest.

Following a good night of fast sleep, we are on the early list again, and up and on the way home at 0630. Cattle Pass had some rip waves, rarely over 2 ft, and after about a half mile it leveled out again for a ways. another set of bumps over a shallow spot again and then an easy breeze al the way home. Beautiful day on the water. Super time with good friends. Lots of plans and memories hashed over. My new Vessel Inspection completed, and some good advice from Barry. All in all, a 10 out of 10 weekend.

Thanks, to all, and happy, safe boating for the coming year.

The crew of the mamalena had a great time in Friday Harbor. It was great to put faces to some of those handles...and individuals on the boats. Lovely to meet so many of you. We felt right at home from the start. Arrived early on Friday, and had fun exploring Friday harbor and going out to dinner at the Downrigger. Another great day Saturday, sharing a rental car tour with Ron and Rose of the Beagle. Didn't see you two again after dinner to thank you, because we found that the local comunity theatre group was producing a musical featuring the music of Patsy Cline, so we decided to go...and it was wonderful. (But we do thank you for sharing a wonderful day)

We slipped away early on Sunday morning as Leroy had a plane to catch later in the day....so we were here in Victoria, pulling the mamalena out of the water at 8:30....

Thanks everyone for all your great planning and for all that great food on Saturday night. Great Chilli Fred! I had yours at dinner, and Leroy's for breakfast....haha.

Wished we could have taken home one of those fabulous prizes, Barry, but we were just too ignorant to know any of the answers....and too slow to cheat.

I'd like to post some pictures, but I find that I can't. Don't see anything to click to upload them. Can't add any to our album either, so I wonder if there is some glitch. I posted one of Leroy and I...and couldn't get any further.

We just got back to Fall City, Daydream is tucked away two slots over from its slot of last year in Hilton Harbor, washed down, motors flushed, just like we have not been gone for more than half a year! We do love Hilton Harbor, no doubt about it!

So back to Friday, we got out of Fall City as planned, into B'ham as planned, checked in to Hilton Harbor as planned...but wasted quite a bit of time when the BF150 wouldn't start. So we left HH on the kicker to get out of the way so boats didn't stack up behind us at the sling. Finally got 'er going, ran to FH with Jim and Laurie on Laurna Jo. Nice hanging around the dock talking with everyone, great halibut and chip dinner at the Downrigger.

Saturday I went out shrimping with Roger and Joyce on SeaDNA, read Roger's account - I am sure the pot got ripped while we ran over to the dock at Jones. Anyway, got the keg hooked up and tapped, a LITTLE BIT wild after being warm and shook up on the way over, it actually had settled down nicely by Sunday morning! Oh well! But we all got nice pints of half beer half foam for the potluck! And what a great potluck, as always!

Sunday morning was very relaxed around the docks, read a bit, shave and a shower, very nice! Had capuccinos on our cockpit, served a few to visitors. Rev. Dave did a couple of christentings, Goyo and a sailboat - a first, I think. Gave Localboy Mark the tour of the David-made customizations. Hung around through lunch, watched folks head out one by one, and finally we gave it up, leaving behind only those folks lucky enough to be spending more time on the water after FH.

Russ and Toni - we love you guys, look forward to Lake Powell, but I am sorry - you CANNOT be on "vacation" from retirement! That is a total non-sequitur! (Look it up on Wikipedia!).

So, we ran back to B'ham, Patty at the helm, into Hilton Harbor, and more or less back to where we started this post!

Well, we made it home safely. The two little guys, Dominic and Grffin, slept most of the way since they were exhausted with 2 FULL days of 'fishing.' When Dominic woke up he looked terribly sad and then as tears started to roll down his cheeks he mumbled, "I miss Friday Harbor."

It was great to see old friends and meet new ones! Putting faces to our usernames is one of the enjoyable parts of these get togethers.

I want to personally thank Barry and Patty for once again organizing such a great event. I've also come to the conclusion that I never want to make them cross, because they definitely have some pull with the Guy above...two and a half beautiful days surrounded by rainy days. Simply amazing!

Thanks to all the participants for making me and my family feel welcomed.

C-Dorys are good boats, but C-Brats are great people.

Thankyou Barry and Patty for your hard work organizing this event, the weather was perfect, what a great time to visit and share our love of boating. And thankyou Roger and Janet for the great nametags.
This morning we woke up to a beautiful morning in Prevost Harbor on Stuart Island, Toni has already spotted two eagles perched in the trees as we drink our morning coffee. Non-sequitur or not...it doesn't get much better than this. Toni says anytime away from home is a vacation whether you retired or not. Barring a Tasmania (Toni's word for Tsunami) we hope to enjoy these next few weeks away from retirement.
Our best to all.

Echoing others, thanks to our pro organizers for a fabulous get-together. We had a great time--the girls loved catching sea critters and I loved the beautiful weather -- perfect for my favourite boating activity, reading a good book while sitting on a dock in the warm sun.

We headed for Sucia Sunday and spent a fun afternoon there. Our girls played with the C-Daisy girls (thanks Karl and Amy!) and then we spent the night at Sucia. So very quiet. With a weather window, we headed out super early for Anacortes where I picked up my car and the girls and I headed back to Seattle.

Timflan is holed up in La Connor with TLF, as that weather window snapped shut. We hope to see him tomorrow.

Will post some pics once I get an album.

Well that was a great weekend!!! After sneaking in on a beam of twilight Susan and I settled down for a long night of freezing to death. she forgot the good blanket and all we had were Mexican blankets. We did not think it was going to drop down into the low 40's Friday night. A Mexican blanket is like sleeping in a screen door. The heat just floats away.

Saturday after walking the dog we traveled out to Jones island with the shrimping fleet. Don and Dee set pots near us and rafted up with us while we soaked pots for a few hours. Don lost one pot due to a bad connection. We both ended up with 50 or so shrimp. It was a great day to just sit in the sun and float around while b.s.ing.

We made it back for a wonderful pot luck with games and prizes. Barry and patty did a wonderfully job and The crew of Dreamer did a great job on the custom name tags. Susan has a collection of all the name tags from different events. I will say that pat makes a hell of a beer. I had three glasses in short order at dinner and had to take a nap. I just don't drink much any more and that beer has a kick.

Sunday we hung out in port until 2pm before heading out. Sorry we missed saying go bye to many of you but I could hear the ice cream calling my name from town. We did head out to hien bank for a few hours of halibut fishing but did not land any. Susan had one on for a few minutes but it slipped the hook.

We rode the wind and incoming tide from the bank back to anacortes while Susan cooked up the last of the shrimp. We throttled back to 6mph to eat and just finished when we where boarded by the coast guard again. Nice guys and very polite. The dog was a problem. He would not stop getting in front of them for a petting so they could do their jobs. I have to go buy a throw-able today on the way home. All in all a wonderful weekend, we even got home in time to see the new star trek, great movie.

We also really enjoyed the gathering! Thanks to all who organized the event. We headed from FH to Jones Island Sunday morning. The dock was full so we tied to a buoy, then hiked all the trails on the island. We did a leisurely cruise back to B-ham and spent the night on the visitor dock. The water was like glass all the way back. We took out this morning and had a nice trip home. Our four mules, and two labs were happy to see us. They are concerned that we may have found another hobby.

Thank you Chuck and Kathy for your guidance on our first trip. Thank you Barry for the inspection and safety discussion. We appreciate all the good information from everyone on how it is done. There must be some connection between good pot luck cooks and c-dory ownership. We are already planning the next trip...

I am really sorry I missed this event. but I was having so much fun northbound off the west coast in 8ft swells on 6 second periods that I just couldn't get there in time. Next year!

Huge mahalo to Barry and Patti for all their hard work organizing a great weekend! It was good to meet all of you, enjoy the fun, food etc and pick your brains. I was very overwhelmed by all your friendship, hospitality and I felt welcome by one and all. It's gonna take me a while to remember ALL your names, so please be patient.

After leaving we made the short run up to Roche Harbor and ended up running into Russ and Toni in Provost Harbor in their beautiful boat. We did a quick circle, took a nice pic after saying aloha and headed out. Ended up anchoring for the night in Reid Harbor and spent the night warm & fuzzy as the rain came. We headed out in the morning and made the loooooong run back to Everett. The weather held [at first] and the water was great...I pushed her up to 29.4 knots (GPS) on some smooth water after clearing Deception Pass and then...the winds. We ran into some seas on the entire run down Whidbey and Camano which made for a long ride at 2500 rpm's. It reminded me of the oceans around Hawai'i; water splashing on the windshield, stuff flying around, boat bouncing. It was fantastically fun. The boat handled great and it gave me even more confidence that I made the right decision in going for a C-Dory. Got some video to show Meredith, but don't know how to load it yet.

Made it back to Everett at about 1800 hours and the wind was blowing. Man it made it very difficult to land the boat and I'm VERY glad my brother was there. He was the only able "footed" person around.

Once again big mahalo and I hope to see everyone soon.

Thanks to Barry and Patti for all of their hard work putting together another great Friday Harbor gathering. How they control the sunshine is a mystery to me, but I will take it! And thanks too, to everyone who helped make this a wonderful weekend. The 16 Angler worked out great. I should have taken more pictures, but just didn't. I did take pictures of the Christenings on Sunday morning. Ruth took pictures from the Saturday ceremonies, and other dock pictures. She will get those posted in a few days, as she had some business to take care of as soon as they returned to B,ham on Sunday am.

Most of my pictures are of the two 16 Anglers cruising back to Whidbey on Sunday. Thanks Brock, what a beautiful run back to Deception Pass.

We had a another "first", as Rev Dave christened a sailboat. Good story. A wonderful couple, who are restoring a Ranger 33 sailboat, were at FH last year and observed the christenings. They were so taken with the Rev Dave and the ceremony, that they asked if they might have their boat, Hetaira, included this year. "To the sailors", Deana and James, you two are super!

Thanks again to all! And to the gigglers, you know who you are  , thanks for the laughs. It warms the :love !

Robbi

PS James and Deana, I lost your email address. I want to send you some pictures. (krummroatyahoocom)

Belated thanks to Barry and Patti for the FH bash. It was great to see old friends again and to make new ones.
Thanks to everyone for accepting a couple of the "Steroidally Challenged" Dorys this year, it has earned all C-Brats reciprocal rights to come and party with us anytime.

After FH we went to Nanaimo, refuelled, did shopping and then on to Pender Harbor with Barry and Patti. After one day layover due to a persistant level of greyness down to sea level we made it up to Princess Louisa.
Barry has all 800Mb of pictures !!

Return was via Newcastle for the night and then on down to FH to catch the Farmers Market to replace all the good food we could not bring back to the US.

Came back through Cattle Pass and across to Deception on a glass smooth day with boats as far as the eye could see making the most of the shrimping season.

Great trip, great company. Can't wait for the next one...

Merv & Kathy

Great big fun! Thanks to everyone for showing up and bringing your enthusiasm. The weather was superb, the company even better!
