05/08 - 05/11 - 2025 Friday Harbor C-Brats Get-Together

As a reminder, we will be having another book exchange on the party barge at 2 pm on Saturday. Consider setting aside those boating books that you have read or are currently reading to be given and shared with others. Last year we had a full table of books that were donated for other C-Brats to read. Let's not have books collecting dust at home, let’s swap and get some new dreaming material.

Not related to Friday Harbor, but rather formatting of some C-Brat pages and not others. I notice page one of this thread fits fine in the window. But this page is wider than the window causing a slider bar at the bottom to move left or right. Am I the only one having this issue over the past week? This is happening in other threads as well. I'm using Firefox, but it's happening with MS Edge as well. Just not as bad.

A long link in one of the messages stretched the page out. I shortened it to its keywords.

Usually I notice these and fix them but the Chrome browser formats the page correctly so they get by me once in a while. It is easy to to make short links by typing in the key words, highlighting them, and clicking the URL button. Then you need to type an equal sign and post the actual link inside the brackets around the first url tag like this: address for desired page[/i]]. Use the Preview button to make sure it looks right before submitting.

We are about 2 weeks away from being able to make a specific slip reservation for our annual C-Brats Friday Harbor Get-Together in May. Mark your calendar for February 15, as this is the date that you may go to the Port of Friday Harbor website to reserve your slip for the event. Like last year, it would be nice to see all of the 30 slips on H-Dock again filled with C-Dory boats. Send DayBreak a PM so that you may get the code to make this reservation. I know it may seem a little early to think about reservations but we want for you to be able to get one of your favorite slips before they are all taken. Gary

Gary, it is now very likely JoLee & I, along with our HunkyDory will be attending this gathering. Would you please PM me the reservation code.

Thanks,

Jay

PM sent with code.

Good news on Jolee and glad to hear that now very likely, both of you will continue on from FH and attend PLI. Gary

Important Friday Harbor Event Reservation Information

PLEASE READ ALL THIS POST BEFORE MAKING YOUR RESERVATION

Just got off the phone with Jerod at the Port of Friday Harbor. The on-line reservation system is now open for us!

For the general public, slip reservations start May 15. Friday Harbor is making an exception for our group as we are reserving slips before this date. Unfortunately, there is no option to 'click" and select a specific slip, but there is a comment box where you can request a specific slip (2nd & 3rd choices if you want), port or starboard tie, close to shoreline, close to end of dock, etc. There are no guarantees, but they will try to accomodate.

We are getting a 20% discount on morage (shore power included). If you want to stay an extra day on either side of the May 8 to 11 dates DO NOT include those dates when you make your reservation. The system will not accept that. If you come in a day early and/or stay a day later, make the May, 8 to 11 reservation and you will also be given the 20% discount on the extra days when you pay at the office. The reservation system asks for your credit card and some boat insurance information. There is a $10 fee to make a reservation but that is a small price to pay for us to be able to all be together on the 30 H-Dock slips.

YOU MUST PM ME, if you haven't already done so, for the 'group code' to make this reservation.

The Port requests that we call (phone preferred) upon arrival for slip assignment.

Gary & Colleen

Thanks for letting us know Ken. Glad that you were able to make that reservation.

Is everyone else doing OK with making a reservation? In my curiosity, tomorrow I will contact the Port office to see how many slips are still available for our block reservation on H-Dock. If you want to reserve a slip beforehand, send Colleen and I a PM to get the group code.

Also, for those who plan to make the event and are considering long term parking, where will you launch this year? This year, we are now considering a launch out of Blaine or the Boat Haven in Port Townsend. With the Boat Haven, you must buy the annual boat launch and parking permit for $105, otherwise the launch is $15 and parking is only good for one day. Gary

Hey Gary,
I actually made my reservation on the 13th, which I know was a day or two earlier than we were suppose to. At first the system wouldn't let me and I Kept getting a Captiva (??? I may have misspelled) error code. So I called the Port, and the guy I talked to asked me what date I was putting in. I told him the 7th. He said it wouldn't work unless I put the 8th, and then to just put in the notes I planned to arrive early. So I tried it again using the 8th, but still got the same code error. For whatever reason, it's like I only had about 10 seconds to fill everything out before the code came up. So I called the Port back, and the guy just took my reservation over the phone. I did get an email confirmation back. (But didn't see any notes about my planned early arrival.) I asked for somewhere around H 19 or 21 on the odd side of the dock.
Regarding your second question, two fellow C-Brats have offered me parking on their private properties, with a launch ramp within a few miles. One would work out ideally for cruising around Puget Sound. I'll likely either graciously accept parking at their place and launching nearby, or stick with my usual Cap Sante Marina. I believe parking was $6/day two years ago, and I assume the same this year, but I haven't checked. Cap Sante works out well with the sling launch, and there is a water spigot near by that the Sling Launch guys allowed me to use last time. And there is also a car wash on the way out of town to finish washing the salt off the rest of the boat. Colby

Ah, the generosity of fellow C-Brats offering parking on their own property. Can't beat that and you have two offers.

The time allowed to fill out the on-line reservation will include 2 insurance questions and the system will time out if you are too slow. Don't feel bad, it took me a couple of tries before I got my reservation in. Calling the office is another way to do it. Good job.

The on-line rservation system will only work for the dates of May 8,9,10 or 11 and with using one or all of those days. For those coming early and/or staying beyond the event dates, make a note of that in the 'comment' box. The port is also giving us a 20% moorage discount on May 7 and May 12 which are one day before and one day after the event but don't try to make a reservation using the dates of 7 and 12. The system will kick you out. Just include those extra days in the 'comment' box and the port will accommodate you. Gary

Just got off the phone with the Port of FH. The slips are filling up fast on H-Dock but there are still plenty that are open. I was told that for those who have called in for a reservation and know their slip number assignment, the Port still wants everyone to call in or hail in when we arrive to confirm that the slip number has not changed. Gary

South Sound C-Dory star Robbi gave me a wake-up call today. Asked if I was coming to Friday Harbor, suggested I get off my butt and sign up. Will do. I wouldn't miss it, and look forward to seeing everyone again this year.

I get by with a little help from my friends. Thanks, Robbi!

I've managed one cruise so far this year. Three weeks ago during a mild stretch of Seattle/Anacortes weather, I planned to spend three or four nights at Sucia. I managed just two, one at Friday Harbor, none at Sucia, and I learned that 34 degree nights are about ten degrees colder than my new limit. Age brings certain concessions.

Brock, glad that you are coming and for Robbi reaching out to you. No rest for Songbird this winter with her being out in 34 deg. weather. It can always be said that our C-Dory boats can handle far more than we can. :) Hopefully in May, we will have sunny, T-shirt weather and at 70 deg. like last year.

Thank you to everyone who has PM'd me their additional sign up information. For attendees, we will hand out a sheet showing your name, boat name and where you are coming from. We have found this sheet helpful for all of us to get acquainted.

Also, thanks to all who have requested the code for the Port of Friday Harbor website reservation system. If anyone has difficulty making an on-line reservation, please let me know. Our gathering is just 2 months away and the sign up list is quite long! The inside of H-Dock will once again be filled with C-Dory boats and with overflow continuing along the walkway and up G-Dock.

Activities for the gathering:
• Lots of Visiting, Sharing, and Story Swapping – Thursday PM thru Sunday AM
• Dinner Out with Other C-Brats – Friday PM (meet on the dock at 5 p.m. and we will most likely be dining at the San Juan Island Brewing Co.).
• Vessel Inspection – Saturday, starting 9 a.m. and performed by Friday Harbor Coast Guard Auxiliary
• Boating / Travel / Local History Book Exchange – Saturday, 2 PM, Party Barge (We all have books collecting dust at home, so let’s swap and get some new dreaming material.)
• Potluck –Saturday, 5 PM, Party Barge ** bring your own plates, utensils and favorite food**
• Boat christenings performed by Patrick Walker (Kim Christine) following the potluck.

Fun times ahead! Gary and Colleen

Today, I received an e-mail from Julie at NMI (C-Dory factory) saying, "I’ll be ordering the T-shirts in the next couple days." With the 31 C-Brats that have signed up for the event, 26 have responded with their preferred T-shirt size requests. Some have opted to not receive a T-shirt, but if you plan to attend and want a free C-Dory T-shirt, please let us know now before the order is made. These commemorative 2025 C-Dory/C-Brats T-shirts will be really cool and will go out as a guarantee with requested size preference to those who have made their request. Thanks everyone. Gary and Colleen

.....Julie has the information needed to order 50 T-shirts but says, "I will just add a few more of each size for some wiggle room, and some extras, just in case." They will be bringing some swag for giveaways as well and "look forward to hanging out with the C-Brats family."

Thank you Brock. I think the first Friday Harbor C-Brats Get-Together started back in 2008. Glad to help keep this tradition going. The event really runs itself.See you and everyone in May.

We now have 12 C-Brat vessels planning to make it to Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls after the event. If interested or wanting to make the trip, let us know. Plan on a full week for this trip, considering a day or two of possible down time in crossing the Strait due to wind or waves which includes two nights on the dock for the stay. Any more takers?

If interested in doing this trip or have any questions, let Colleen and I know with a PM or post here.
