05/12 - 05/14 - Friday Harbor C-Brats Get-Together

Hi Andrew,

Looking forward to meeting you at this annual gathering. Check your message box at the top of the header column on the main page. I sent you a personal message.

See you next week. Gary

Hi Roger,

I still have a potato pin in my hat that you gave me years ago. So glad that you plan to attend and that you will be giving those out as free gifts.

I sent you a personal message. Check your message box. Gary

Okay. She's all washed and cleaned up. Diver cleaned and inspected the hull yesterday. Fire bottle passed the new '12 year' check. Need to get new registration this afternoon...wire in the new nav white light tomorrow...fill up the gas tanks on Sunday. Still need to negotiate a route with my boss. She wants to go up via LaConner...I'd prefer to run straight up the 'slot' (Admiralty Inlet) and scoot across. Based on an earlier posting recommendation, I called the marina yesterday and they took our information. Should be all set for the trip up on Thursday...really looking forward to it. Cheers!

Due to the number of Aux. Coast Guard vessel inspections requested on Saturday, the inspector is offering to those interested to have their vessel inspection done on Friday afternoon. Let me know if you would like yours done on Friday, otherwise he and his partner will start the inspections around 0830 hrs. on Saturday. Gary

I just made my reservation but Adam did not give me a specific slip. I requested a starboard tie and he said he would put it in the notes, but the confirmation email said to call in on VHF 66 to get a specific slip assignment.

Just got off the phone with the Port of Friday Harbor. Spoke with Adam and made my reservation for slip H-3. Now you know where to find us. :) Adam told me that you may also call the port (360-378-2688) and make your specific slip reservation now. Upon arrival, go to the harbor office for payment.

Hi Pat,

That is what I have. Same situation for me with expired flares. Checked with our Aux. CG inspector on this and he is good with the SOS LED Electronic Visual Distress Signal with Daytime Distress Flag to pass the inspection. Keep the expired flares as a back-up on your vessel. Gary

Sorry to hear that you were not able to get a specific slip assignment when you made your reservation. Adam may have done that for me because I am the coordinator for the event.

I am making a list of those who want their vessel inspection done on Friday afternoon and will coordinate with the inspector as time gets closer to Friday. Will let you know. Gary

As per usual, I haven't locked in to whether I'm going. I was thinking about trailering to Bellingham as in the past, but I'm having troubles with trailer lights and finally gave up. Should have checked out the trailer lights earlier.
Since the dealer installed them I'm going back to the dealer. I couldn't get an appointment until the 11th, so I started looking at running from Port Orchard to FH (and getting the boat into the Port Orchard launch w/o functioning trailer lights, something I've done before). Makes for a long day (70 miles), depending on conditions.

I checked out Windy for current and wind. Thursday and Friday are a no go for a CD 16. Sustained 20 knots at Smith Island with gusts to 30. It doesn't matter what the current is doing when it's that windy. Even poking out from Deception Pass might be in to +25 knot gusts.

But then Saturday morning, what a difference. <5 knots at Partridge Point. Swell under 2 foot. My kind of conditions and under 5 hours if those conditions hold true. Decisions, decisions.

If anyone is interested, we have two Honda 150 props that I don't need since any longer our Suzuki re-power. One is a 15.5 x 11 we we bought from Marc Grove in Appalachicola to get our heavily loaded boat up on plane for the Gulf crossing to Steinhatchee, and it did the trick! The other is a Michigan Wheel stainless 14-3/8 x 15 with adapter for Honda outboard that we purchased at Irish Boat Shop at Harbor Springs, MI, that we used on Lake Michigan, the river system, and back to Florida to cross our wake. Both of these props were used for fairly short periods and are in excellent condition. I can bring them to Friday Harbor if anyone is interested. Price is highly negotiable, motivated seller! PM me if interested!

Cbrats!!!! I has been way too long!! I am excited to hear that you guys are having a gathering this weekend!! I have some unfortunate news, I will not be able to attend this weekend. My daughter is graduating high school in June and one of her gifts was to go see Stevie Nicks this Saturday. I need to honor that commitment to her, but I am really sorry I have to miss. I know you will be in good hands with Michael and Julie!!
Live it up Brats!!
Until next time!

Sorry to hear that, Mark, but it will be fun to meet Michael and Juie. Julie helped us by contributing to the trivia quiz - but I can't spill the beans on her questions!

Pat, forget about that white SOS light if you want something that is really going to stand out and help to save your life. I too had that specific SOS light. However, being an ex-Coastie, I was concerned if it would really work that well on a nasty night bouncing around in the waves. So I also kept my flares. However, John from Cat-O-Mine shared with us during the Hontoon gathering, the upgraded SOS light he got. It's the Sirius Signal C-1002 SOS Distress Signal. I'm pretty sure that sucker can be seen much better than the white light. You pay more for it, but if I can afford it, you can too. lol! It's bright! And I believe it also has infrared so any USCG pilot looking for you with infrared goggles on at night, will find you. Colby

Picked up the Orion version, keeping a few flares too. Looking forward to hearing comments from the Coast Guard rep at Friday Harbor.

Colby, I agree my life is worth at least $300 (the cost of the C-1002, which can apparently be seen from outer space) but with BOTH pyrotechnic flares and the C-1003 ($89) think we should be covered. And (A) I hope to heaven I never have to use them and (2) if I do, I don't set anything on fire with the pyrotechnic flares. I should practice with the expired flares one of these days!
