05/13 - 05/15 - Friday Harbor CBGT

I've noticed in several nautical magazines that advertise NW rendezvous, none of the CBGTs are listed, let alone Friday Harbor. Getting them advertised might make a difference. Not just to C-Dory owners, but to those curious or interested in a C-Dory as well.
magazines

I think this is going to be taken care of. I believe Barry has copy to send to several of the magazines like Nor'westing, 48'North, and Pacific Yachting.

On the subject of getting noticed. Maybe this is too corny, but it would not be expensive, and it would draw attention to our gathering there. At this point it is just an idea, but ...

What if everyone showed up with a couple of helium filled, Mylar balloons to tie to their boat AFTER they get to the dock there? Any body think about 80 mylar balloons floating about 6-10 feet above the C-Dorys would attract any attention? If each boat brought 2 balloons, -- the bright silver ones, somebody would notice.

We could even call it the "Sea the C-Dory" cruise. We need to make this the season of C-Dory everywhere we go. Let's show 'em we are proud of our C-Dorys :thup :thup

Mark, can the C-Brats weigh in on the vote for change?

Don't forget your balloons

Harvey,

Great idea with the balloons! Being the shy and retiring type, I will limit Dreamer to no more than 6 with 25 foot strings.

That's what I like, the Shy and retiring and getting the word out.

I thought :idea about some of those ballon and flag lines like the car dealers use, but in talking with Barry, decided that may raise some issues with the sailboat masts. We will just need to keep clear of them.

I was looking to see if I could find any boat shaped ones. Did find a cruise ship (sort of), but maybe the left over Valentines ones :lips with hearts, :love :rose and Love :hug :hug2 wouldn't be to inappropriate either.

Is this something a new C-Dory owner could do? What is it like and how could I find out more about it? Thanks.

If you are talking about attending with a boat the answer is YES.
If you are talking about coming without a boat the answer is YES.
If you are talking about putting balloons on your boat the answer is as above.

You can sign up under the Events button or just show up. Anyway you look at it anyone is welcome. We would love to meet you.

Just to bring everyone up to date on the upcoming Friday Harbor CBGT. Downriggers says they are eager to see us again so we'll have dinner there on Friday the 13th (Yes I know!). I'll post the menu they make up for us when we get a little closer to May. We've had a trivia contest in the past during the Saturday potluck dinner with C-Dory hats, etc. as prizes. Do you want to do that again this year? Please let me know your desires. And...the C-Dory items are getting to be rare birds so we need some other prizes. I still have a few C-Dory hats, etc. and will dole them out but it would help a great deal if you could bring something to donate as a trivia prize. Of course that only matters if you still want to do that so let me know.

And, a new activity. Many of us have books, charts, cruising guides, etc. that we are willing to part with. I propose that we have a book swap/giveaway at the gathering. Patti and I will bring some nautical novels, some boating books and so on. If you think having a swap would be a good thing bring some items to swap or give away. We need help and input from you so we can keep the gathering's fun reputation alive.

And...don't forget Harv's great idea of helium balloons for antennas. I know I can find a beer mug balloon for David and Pat. That would make a great photo opp for the talented clickers amongst us.

David McKibben and I will be happy to do USCG Aux Vessel Safety Checks as we have in the past.

Rev. Dave can't be there this year and Rev. Jim hasn't signed up yet but one way or another we will have official christenings available for boats in need of naming. Remember to let me know if you want your boat christened, bring greenery and appropriate libations with which to appease Neptune or Poseidon.

I'll post more updates as we get closer but May is not that far away

Please please give me some feedback. It helps a lot!

Barry,

Love the idea of a book swap, but I'd also be interested in an equipment swap. I've got some items I could live without.

Also, what about a "boat walk" where folks who've done some cool things to their boat or have something they want to show off could sign up to host an "open boat". You could identify a couple hours on say, Saturday afternoon, where we could cruise the dock and check out the open boats.

Barry,

Hard to think of May being close with 6" of snow on the deck :sad

The open boat idea is a good one IMHO. We used to do that at Krogen get togethers (Krog-Ins) They were called Trawler Crawls.

Book swap, trivia contest, Yes! :thup :thup All part of the fun.

Barry,

I have a size large "Landway" C-Dory jacket that I bought from the factory a few years back and never wore. I'd like to donate it as a prize. Thing is, not sure if we're going to make it this year. We have a new boat on order (sorry, not a C-Dory) and the delivery date is late April/early May so we should arrange a way for me to get it to you before then just in case we're not able to attend. :-(

Who knows, maybe we'll pull a Joe and Ruth and ferry over and stay in a motel. We always enjoy this CBGT!

Anyway, I'd like to get the jacket to you so you have it.

Regards,

-Sarge

Hey Sarge,

Congrats (on whatever it is) new boat. You're still welcome to be my neighbor at Friday or anywhere. Sure hope to see you there.

Greg,

We bought a Stabi-craft 2250SC.

We sold Pingu to a gentleman in Sidney B.C. who, I'm pretty sure, has left the name on the boat so you may see her around. She is an excellent boat, things just changed for us so we changed boats.

Harvey,

Thank you. I always enjoy my time with you.

The Capital Sea and crew look forward to stowing the mothballs and spending some time on the water and at the dock with friends. If the water is good, we may make the run from here or put in in Edmonds. Also the gear exchange idea sounds good. We have some things to show off and others to trade. Kathleen may have to fly in on Sat if the legislature is still in session, but we will be there.

I know of at least three C-Dorys that will be at FH that have upgraded to a Webasto heater. For anyone that wants to see how it was done. All three are a little different. 2 25s and a 22.

Hey, Steve, great to see you here again. Are you going to be out shrimping this year? We're going to moor C-Dawg at the Everett Naval station for the month of May, and shrimp near there.

If you run to FH from Edmonds area, let me know what day you're launching and we'll run over with you.
