By the way, does anybody know why the drummers wear red, while the pipers wear black? It's a quiz. No Googling! It has to do with the early history of the modern "regimental" pipe band. Anyone?
ANSWER: Because the pipers were pulled from the ranks of Highland Regiments, while the drummers were pulled from the ranks of the regular British Army (the "red coats"). Apparently the Scots were too smart to go into battle wearing bright red tunics.

Clan McKenzie will be there for the CBGT...we're looking forward to our first "big trip." We're fishermen, not cruisers, so this will be a big journey for us. We're going to pair up with Harvey and travel in tandem with Sleepy C on the way over.

Much better kilt ettiquette than this cheeky fellow

Hey brats,

My wife and I don't own a C-Dory (yet) but we were hoping to be able to see some of them in Friday harbor during the GT.

We're going to buy our first boat in the next year or so, probably a used 19' or 22' Angler, or a 22' Cruiser.

We were wondering if the fleet hangs out in the marina most of the weekend, or if there's a cruise involved as well? We'd hate to get out to Friday Harbor and miss the boats.

Anyway, we'd love to come out to the gathering and see some of your boats!

Sean (& Elizabeth)

Sean & Elizabeth,

The fleet usually takes up most of H dock. I suspect that is where we'll be again. Maybe Barry can confirm that. Looking forward to meeting you there.

By all mean Sean and Elisabeth, come to the Friday Harbor event. There will be boats all around from Friday noonish to Sunday late AM. I am 100% confident that some brat would be more than happy to take you out on the water so you can get a feel for the boats. Many of us, me included, saw and rode our first C-Dory at a C-Brat get together. You will be genuinely welcomed.

I just thought of the one bad thing about owning a 27 c-dory. There is no reason to let want to be owners look at it or ride it. You cant go buy one. The factory will never make another one. Showing the 22 to scores of people and letting them drive and feel for them selves what the c-dory was all about was half the fun of owning it. Watching many of those same folks buy there own c-dory and then follow their post as they travel the country to places I will not be able to go was even better. knowing that I had at least help them move in the right direction and read their post was a source of great enjoyment for me. Not so in the 27 its a different boat in its space and speed and handling for that matter. oh well

Thanks for the warm welcome. We're really looking forward to meeting you guys and your boats! We own a tandem sea kayak that we've done some fun outings on, but we really have been wanting to get a power boat since last summer when we took a little crabbing trip on my uncle's Grady White up near Lummi Island. After that outing we really started considering our own boat, but we were discouraged by the apparent cost of a "sound-worthy" boat, as well as the fact that we'd need big a truck to pull a boat that heavy.

It wasn't until this winter/spring when we were researching Arimas, and realized we didn't need a super heavy boat with a 150hp motor and a giant truck to pull it, just to go safely out on the sound. I was talking with co-workers, one who recently purchased a Ranger Tug, and another who commutes to his cabin on a Skagit Orca, and they both mentioned C-Dory. I was thrilled to find this site and to start learning about the boats. I love the simplicity of the boats, the ruggedness without a lot of weight, the efficiency, and of course the classic looks. And I still haven't seen one in person! Lately, every time I walk my bike through the Ballard Locks on the way to/from work, I've been keeping my eyes open looking for a C-Dory.

Well, I may just be there for Friday. I have family coming to town; Sunday is my g-son Kaimani's 1st birthday lu'au. :cake If I get up there can I get someone to do a quick CG Aux inspection on Friday? I'd probably leave early Sat for the return trip home, unless I get side-tracked shrimping that is. :smilep

Well, Meredith is all for my going. She even suggested I pick her up on Sat morning (she works Fri night) in Bellingham and we stay out for a few hours. We'll see if she remembers that in a month

My plan is to launch at Swantown in Olympia Friday morning the 13th at 8:30 am and go to Friday Harbor by boat. I figure I should be in FH just before 5 pm. The chart below shows my route and approximant times I will be passing various points along the way. If anybody is going by boat from points along the way and would like company, I would be thrilled to meet up with you along the way. My times are tentative so if anyone wants to accompany me, I can make some modifications to my schedule if necessary.
