05/14 - 05/16 - Friday Harbor

It looks like shrimping is going to be closed in that area that weekend, but there is a -2'2" tide about noon-thirty on Saturday. Anyone know some good clamming beaches in the San Juans? I think it would be fun to get a group together to rake some clams up for the potluck that evening.

Or, how about halibut or lings? Halibut will be open Friday and Saturday. Anyone know some spots to try?

Ok , so now we have the VSC list going ,not that we need a list but I imagine that Dave S. and I better bring our vestments for some Christening of new and maybe some old boats (can you hear me now Crazy Frazees). I am really excited about that couple from the north end that had a Cabernet 22 for about two minutes , then took one step too many backwards like I almost did when christening their first boat. I think some folks know who I am referring too. I have refrained from commenting on the new boat ,but can't help it. Can you tell I am ready for some CBGT, and drinkin' and pouring some Snoqualmie Falls Brews on some bows?

Please add us to the list for a safety inspection.

Thanks,

R-MATEY

Please remove our request for a safety inspection. Jeff phoned the other day and now our new delivery date won't be until after the FHCBGT :cry :cry

However, we WILL be there, just boatless!!

Oh, would you believe that I still have the 'greenery' from when Rev. Dave christened the first R-MATEY....had planned to use it for the christening of the newest R-MATEY but guess we'll just have to wait to do it at another time.

Looking forward to seeing all our C-Brat friends :D

Sorry to hear that the new boat will not be ready but glad to see that you will still be there.

As for shrimp season, area 6 south of the islands will be open for shrimp. So if you want you can still shrimp that weekend if you make a short run. that will depend on the weather.

Meredith has gotten the weekend off from work! It was touch & go up until this week. So we will need one of Rev. Dave's (in)famous christenings.

This too will be Pingu's first adventure since last year. We're excited to meet with old friends.

I'd like to have Pingu inspected also.

Thanks,

Today we are dropping Knotty C in the water for the first time since our return from Alaska in August . We are cruising up to Beacon Rock for a mini gathering. Just getting ready for Friday Harbor. We can't wait!

Tom, that's good news about shrimping. We shrimped in area 6 last year after it closed where we shrimped with you and did pretty well. If we have time, maybe we'll make a run down for a few more. We were really disappointed to hear that shrimping wasn't open. I guess we'll bring the gear just in case.

Time to do so last minute checking for Friday Harbor. All looks good thus far. Remember to bring something for the trivia contest and if you can, a table. Also, remember that Roger and Janet of Dreamer have made nametags for all of us over the last few gatherings, if you have one, bring it. If you do not have one please let Roger know ASAP. We will have a few blanks there and can hand write some if needed. The schedule is pretty much as the last year's; arrivals on Friday, dinner at Downrigger's Friday about 1730, Saturday the only scheduled event is the potluck which usually begins around 1700 (or so :) ). Sunday AM breakfast at Downriggers for those who are interested and there's lots of other good places as well. Depart Sunday AM. We will have a discounted moorage fee. Tell the harbormaster you are with the C-Brats when you check in. We will have discounts at West Marine; identify yourself as a C-Brat there as well. West marine is planning some kind of casual coffee and donuts event for us on Saturday AM. Those who want a Christening please contact Rev. Dave so he can plan and don't forget your greenery.

Finally, we have a lot of Vessel Safety Checks planned so David and I will put together a signup sheet that way we can try to get as many done as possible. This http://www.safetyseal.net/what_is_vsc.asp is a very good site and has a list of everything that is needed for the VSC. Many people fail because of outdated flares and now we are required to check to see that your battery terminals are covered to prevent arcing and fires!. Many people just cover their positive terminals and that is fine as long as there is no positive buss bar or similar connection in the battery area that would allow a direct short. The cover does not have to be fancy, just some sort of insulating protection.

We are really looking forward to this.

See you there.

The Assistant Rev. Jim is going to be at the gathering as well, so we can share officiating at the Christenings. If you have greenery from your home that has significant meaning to you bring it....if not I'll have plenty of cedar boughs with me.

Yes, please PM me if you need name badges. Please include full names, boat name, model and trim color. Also include your home town or home port.

Last year we rented a car at the airport and toured San Juan Island. It is a beautiful, pastoral countryside. English Camp and American Camp are worthwhile stops. I recommend it. :thup

I have a hand full of teak helm hubs I will have with me at FH. $15.00 and you will need a 3/16 allen to remove the old black plastic one.

I'll be the boat with the 4X8' flashing cabernet neon sign over the roof that alternates "Hubs/Here".

Dave, these would look REALLY REALLY great on a certain new Marinaut.

Every new charter season at Anacortes Yacht Charters we replace the previous years Waggoner with a new edition on all the boats. I saved a bunch of 2009 editions which are probably newer than most have. I will have them on the boat at FH for anyone that wants one. I think I have 6 or 7 so far.
