05/14 - 05/16 - Friday Harbor

I am embarrassed to make this post. I pushed as hard as I could but was not able to have the Marinaut ready for this gathering. It is close but will not be completed this week. We are still waiting for some minor parts that have not come in. I will not ever make another prediction on when the boat will be ready. When it is ready, I will post a notice.

I will post up-dated photos on our web site Thursday.

Had I known the Marinaut would not be ready, I could have gotten C-Voyager ready and used it for this gathering. She has sit in my equipment shed for the last year and needs a good cleaning and service before she is useable. Too late to do that now, besides you people want to see the Marinaut, not a stretched 16’ C-Dory.

Dave, You have worked incredibly hard to have the Marinaut at Friday Harbor, and we all appreciate the work that you and your team have done. We will miss you, but this gives us another excuse to get together for a party. It will certainly be well worth the wait.

Take care. Sit out on the porch tonight, and watch the sunset. Enjoy a :beer

Dave, nothing to be embarassed about. When I built my classic VW, people were always asking "When will it be done?"; usually it was for their own curiosity, selfishness etc. My pat answer: "It'll be done... when it's done". No use in stressing over some arbitrary date and cutting corners. Enjoy the ride and see you soon.

I plan on leaving Edmonds around 9 am and being at Coronet Bay around 11 am-ish. Hopefully I'll meet up with some of you at Coronet Bay (Tim?) and head over as a group.

If anyone else is leaving from Edmonds on Friday morning, send me a PM. I'd like the company on the way up.

Robbi, Mark & Dave – thank you for the words of encouragement. I feel better already. It is starting to get dark so I think I will find my beautiful wife and take her up on our hill behind the house and lay in the middle of the field and watch the stars come up.

I planted it last year after the mole wars and the pasture grass is really nice and a bright green ringed by large fir trees. It is nice and peaceful up there with an occasional hawk or eagle soaring over. Before dark you can hear doves in the background and if you are really quite you can hear frogs in the ponds way below the hill by the house and barn. Later the owls will talk to one another and the coyotes will howl in the distance.

The clouds are turning red and orange, so I have to go or I will miss it.

Hope to see you all sometime soon.

I hated to cancel my flights to come out and see many of my C-Brat friends during the Friday Harbor gig, but, things have been a bit crazy her around the Cumberland River area. So, another time, another trip..... and Dave, many sorry about your boat not being ready yet, but, some day it will be.....and I feel better just reading about the grass up on the hill. Relaxing and I needed it.

Yall that do make Friday Harbor, have a blast, travel safely and laugh a lot.

Sounds good, Carl, but Julia is sick, and we're still deciding if all, some, or none of us will go this weekend. :-(

I'm planning as if Two Lucky Fish is going to Friday Harbor on Friday, but we'll make a go/no-go call this evening or possibly first thing Friday.

Carl, and any others northbound from Seattle/Edmonds/Everett:

Arwen and I are going to get underway as early as humanly (or is it "humanely") possible, BUT we have to get out the Ballard Locks. I don't think you should wait for us, since that part is completely unpredictable.

Also, the new WFX is calling for a bit more wind than anticipated, so it could be a bit of a slog for those of us with flat hulls. :-) You guys should just go on ahead.

We will TRY to make Cornet Bay around noon. Broadcasting Class B AIS, monitoring channels 16 & 68, and our progress will be updated on Twitter, as usual. Those not familiar with the Twitter component could check out my Navagear article about it.

Here is the deal on the beer. I will be bringing a keg. David will be bringing the CO2 and a cobra head. It is up to all the rest of you to get it iced down and KEEP it iced down until it is empty!!!

Sorry. It's been a long day and I'm still working....

 The "inter-webby" is a double-edged sword! I can run plates, names get booking photos, submit reports; even visit websites  ...it's great...

...when it works.

:sad Been working since 0600 hours and I'm pooped.

Is this what my Snoqualmie cops are doing out there in the wee hours of the morning?

Anyway, slight change of plans. Since the hurrier we go, the behinder we get, we did not get out of here (Fall City) last night, and will be lucky to get out of here before noon - and the bed of the Titan is still full of Tom's BS, which I will be shoveling (literally not figuratively) momentarily.

We'll be pulling out of John Wayne Marina in about a half hour. Winds at Smith Island are around 10 kts.

Hope we get a Friday Harbor album set up this weekend. There will, no doubt, be some folks anxious to post photos soon.

Can't wait to see everyone! :D

Sadly we will not be able to make this gathering. :cry It's our favorite of the whole year and we've been looking forward to it for months. Knotty C is going to Sportcraft today for some necessary work. If we can, we may drive up and ride the ferry over tomorrow so we can at least join in for some of the festivities. Have a wonderful time, everyone. We'll see you on the water a little later in the season. :smiled
