05/15 - 05/17 - 2015 Friday Harbor Gathering

Greg,
I'm new to the San Juan area. I'll be seeing you guys at Friday's Harbor on Friday and Saturday. Boat name is: Kylie Lynn II and Yvonne and I are excited to cruise the area in our 22' C-Dory Cruiser 2012 model. Do I need to register or give some $$ to anyone for the outing. I see I need to have a dish full of food.
Walt

And YES, Idaho exquisite potato pins will be on hand for the first twenty boats. These pins cost the Idaho potato commission lots of money, but for C-BRATS -- FREE! Roger

Greg you can sign up at the top of the page under the event signup tab. You just pay for your slip when you get there. As you enter the harbor cal the harbor master and tell them you are with our group. If you can not get them just look for the cdorys and take a open spot. Its a low stress , go with the flow kind of event.

Looks Like Mike and Monica (and Jenny?) will be coming again this year. We will likely arrive around or after dinner time on Friday as we won't be able to get away from Victoria until around 4 or 5.

SO ready for this event! The first of a GREAT summer of CBGTs, with cruising before/after each one! Ah. retirement! You poor working folks should give it a try!

Ah, Pat, my friend... I recall some years ago: one of us being retired and the other not, saying, "I like what I do - I don't want to retire." I won't mention any names, but the guy "not wanting to retire" was someone with the initials: Pat Anderson. That "you poor working folks" sounds a bit like a gloat. Next thing you know, you'll be touting the advantages of getting out of the frozen northland when the cold wind blows.

Hope Friday Harbor is the start of a great summer season for you and Patty!

Best wishes,
Jim

Well, like I always say, consistency is the hobgobblin of small minds! A - I am enjoying being (mostly) retired, and 2 - yes, we are now confirmed snowbirds! I wanted 5 months in AZ next year, she wanted 3 months, so we compromised on 3! 8)

Hi Walt, Like Tom said this event is pretty casual. We have the inside of H dock reserved and some of G as needed also. Once you arrive you can dock anywhere in the large reserved area (just look for other C-dorys or use this map link http://www.portfridayharbor.org/marina/marina-map/ )

Check back soon on this thread for more details and we look forward to seeing the Kylie Lynn II at FH.

Still twice as much time as this year... and you know you two can't stay away from grandkids for much more than that. 8) In Arizona and Florida, you are a snowbird... in south Texas, you would be called a Winter Texan.

So, what do they call people who go north to the PNW in the summer? Smart.

May see you at Friday Harbor.

Jim

PS Kudos to Patty on the successful completion of the motorcycle safety course! :thup :thup (Cue the music: "Git yer motor runnin'..."

Walt, one of my all-time favorite sights is motoring through the entrance of the Friday Harbor Marina, taking an immediate right, and seeing the entire H dock lined up with C-Dory after C-Dory of all shapes and sizes. Truly an amazing sight.

I hope you get the chance to experience it next month!

Unfortunately this event is exactly the same weekend as our big event at the yacht club. The Commodores cruise.

I am going to try to do both by attending one night at the C brats gathering and then 1 night at the Clubs cruise.

What is scheduled for Friday night and Saturday night???

I am thinking of coming over on Friday. Stay with you guys til say Sat afternoon then heading up to North Pender for the Saturday night Salmon bake at the cruise.

Could someone please tell me what is planned for the events on the evenings at the gathering.

Thanks

Due to the wife's work schedule we will not be able to attend over the weekend. However we have planned on catching the ferry and seeing everyone on Saturday. If there are any last minute needs we'll be catching the 8 or 9 am ferry out of Anacortes and always happy to pick anything up.

I will be attending Friday night for sure. Please let me know what restaurant is planned and a time.

My buddy Charles owns the Blue Water and China Pearl, and my friend Peggy owns the Rumor Mill. All good choices.

I will be staying at the RVYC berths at the end of C dock arriving Friday around noon. Looking forward to the gathering and meeting you all.

Earlier there was a question about the Customs docks and I said they had a yellow line on the dock, thinking parallel to the bull rail. NOT SO. I checked on my through last week, NO Yellow.

Coming in from Canada, it is closer to check in at Roche Harbor. Customs there moves; on the off season it is in by the fuel dock, Sometime in May it will move out to the front dock. If it is out front it will be close to the center of the long, front, side tie dock. The Customs sign is about 2 feet square, white with green lettering. Tie as close to the building as possible, and only one person off the boat until clearance is authorized.

At Friday Harbor, the Customs is on the second front dock, the one that runs off towards the left, and the ferry dock, but is still perpendicular to the approach from the bay. It is also to the right of the sea plane dock.

It is coming together, and I'm really looking forward to this.

PS: I saw C-Hawk on the water over the last couple of weeks, Friday Harbor I think. Hope we get to meet there again, CBGT?

Yes Harvey I was in FH a couple of weeks ago. I try to get over there as often as possible. You can usually find me in the Blue Water the China Pearl or the Rumor Mill.

I don't go to Herbs any more since it was bought out by some non Islanders that have really changed the place and not for the better.

However I just realized the Port Angeles is only 1.5 miles more from RVYC. Think I might take a trip over there a couple times this summer as well.

PS I bought some Honda props like yours 12.25 x 9 x 3. Hope to put them on before the Gathering and give them the run over to see if there is any difference.

Glad to meet you -- next time. I didn't see the boat until I was on my way out of the FH marina. Liked the Seahawk logo. Yes, PA is almost the same distance, but it is/can be a very different ride. In almost 9 years here, I have done the over and back on the same day twice. I have had multiple crossings that were great, flat, calm and gorgeous. I have had some less than fun crossings, none unsafe, but definitely took full attention, and I have turned around and bailed on the crossing for the original planned time, twice.

If you are headed to PA, let me know and if I'm around I'd be happy to run to PA and meet up.

I'd be interested in what you think of the new prop set.
