05/17 - 05/19 - Friday Hbr CBGT, 2019

A few years ago I saw a Canadian flag in a grocery store in Campbell River that was just the right size for my CD 16. Unfortunately it was part of a swizzle stick and didn't look like it would hold up in the weather.

I have new gas tanks (me were stolen), new steering, a place to park my van and trailer in Cowichan Bay, and I'm on my way to buy new spark plugs and other necessities. Then it looks like I will be ready to go.

I hadn't used my boat in almost two years and mechanics are difficult to find at this time of year, so I am thrilled it is all coming together.

So, weather permitting I will arrive at Friday Harbour on Friday morning. I look forward to seeing everyone there. :D :D :) 8) :P :teeth :smile :smiled

I will be joining the brats this weekend. Searun will not be making the trip as my sister and I will be camping at San Juan County Park. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

I live on Guemes Island, so I am in a position to decide to go or not to go at the last minute. During the last 2 days, as I watch/read the weather forecasts, I figured I was going to punt on going to the CBGT. However, I now plan to leave here about 2pm and arrive FH about 4pm.

This weather system has been strange. It's been off and on here on Guemes. Several Small Craft Advisories exist nearby. It's been pouring at times in Seattle. The mountains are full of bad weather. But the San Juans Islands to my west seem to be in a pocket of good weather except maybe for excessive wind. Current forecast is that the winds will die down starting about noon (except maybe in the Straits). Weather for the weekend looks pretty good for FH and environs.

Beautiful image, Will! Friday Harbor (and especially the marina) is a special place, ripe with photo opportunities. Send our best wishes to the Brats at the gathering.

Best wishes,
Jim & Joan

Have fun, everyone. Sorry we won’t make it this year. We left early this a.m. but had a trailer malfunction; starboard rear caliper locked up causing an extremely hot hub. I could smell it when we stopped for fuel. 180*F (laser thermometer) and started smoking. Turned around and went home. Took it all apart. Diagnosis: frozen aka rusted piston. Parts are on order. First trip this year...

...epic fail.

Hope it was fun! I neglected to inform you all that Two Lucky Fish +1 would not make it this year. My father passed away unexpectedly four weeks ago, and yesterday was the memorial service in Port Townsend, so that has really monopolized my time and energy, as you can imagine. Some of you had met my dad, John Flanagan; he and I attended a C-Brats gathering or two without the rest of the family.

Anyway, with the memorial complete, I'm coming up for air, and realized we had missed Friday Harbor, our favorite C-Brats event. Hey, and the weather was nice, Saturday at least!

I'm taking Two Lucky Fish +1 out next weekend with little Tristan (now 6, he's the "+1"), along with another kid about that age and her dad. We'll launch at Cornet Bay and explore beaches and rocks.

A day late and a dollar short. After a dead battery on the port side and a problem with a neutral interlock switch on the starboard side, I never got launched on Friday. I think they made a movie about that - "Failure to Launch"....

Anyway, the boat spent Friday night and Saturday at Will's place. I got a new battery and fixed the interlock issue today and arrived at FH around 2:10. Not another C-Brat in sight. I'll be here next weekend also.

Thank you all for making us feel welcome, and Pat for christening HARMONY following Saturday's potluck. Looking forward to the next CBGT!

I wasn't the only one who had a birthday on Sunday. When I got home, I checked my Chickadee box. The inside of the nest box is 3.5 x 3.5 inches. They came out of eggs smaller than a dime.

I put a couple of FH pictures in my album at http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_ ... _album.php

I officially de-named SeaDNA at Friday Harbor Saturday and christened it RockC (no hyphen)...
