05/18 - 05/20 - 2012 Friday Harbor CBGT

I wouldn't worry about parking at Bellingham. Ther is an overflow lot, and when things get really tight there is an over overflow lot. I wish I could attend but I have to work.

Well I have always been told that you could not over night park at the Washington Park boat ramp. I have even passed that info on this site to others. I was wrong.

From the Washing park web site.
The boat trailer parking lot is designed and directed to be used only for boat
trailer parking. All units parking here must be parked, between designated lines,
no longer than 14 days. Any misuse of parking regulation will subject vehicle to
impoundment and/or a penalty to be issued by the Anacortes Police Department.
20 parking sites will be designated day use only. Any vehicle/trailer
combinations left in the day use slots after 10:00 p.m. may be ticketed and or
towed at the owner’s expense.

So as long as you are in the right spots you have 14 days. This cuts down on the travel time and fuel burn if you are headed out to the islands.

You still have to watch the low tides and time you coming and goings around the tides. And watch out for the north west wind. It blows right at the ramp.

If the Straits of Juan weather stinks, Coronet Bay State Park might be an option. Then it's the ferry across to Whidbey or the drive around over the Tacoma Narrows. Great choices.

Some days the weather is like this, and some days it is NOT

re: The Washington Park boat ramp and parking. We used the ramp and parking (3 nights) for last years Friday Harbor CBGT. The ramp is fine although we had to leave on Sunday morning even earlier than Ruth and Joe in order to beat the minus tide to take out.

The down side to Washington Park is that it is approximately $10 per night for the overnight parking. (I don't recall the exact amount) In addition the pay system is a semi-automated pay box that didn't work too well and left me wondering if I was going to get a ticket. (I didn't and was able to pay the full correct amount on Sunday morning. I did leave a note in my windshield with a note and my partially paid stub)

This year we are thinking of using the sling launch at Cape Sante (?). Does anyone know the current rates, hours of operation and the cost and availability of truck and trailer parking?

Thanks for any information

The Washington Park they are talking about is at the west end of Anacortes. Drive past the Washington State Ferry dock about anouther 1/2 mile or so. Looks out over Rosario.

JDS, we've used Cap Sante sling launch in the past for weekend trips and I don't feel it is cost prohibitive. When we used it last (3-4 years ago) it was $33 round trip. Which to me is worth it considering you don't have to launch and retrieve. Plus, we found out the trailer and truck parking was very safe and secure; I accidentally left the front driver's window open all weekend and no one touched a thing. Just lucky I guess.

I just looked up the rates. For a 22' boat, the rate would still come out to $33.00 ($1.50 per foot). For bigger boats, it gets quite a bit more expensive. Here's the link:

If we were needing weekend parking for the truck and trailer, this is the route I'd probably take but of course, YMMV.

PS - I did install sling slots in my bunk trailer but Cap Sante does accommodate trailers without slots, they use a bottle jack system for bunk trailers. At least they did for the Anacortes Salmon Derby. You might want to call to verify.

We have a little used microwave oven that we took off the boat and will bring it to Friday Harbor if someone in the C-Brat family would like it. Free.. First request gets it.

Does not really apply here, but Cap Sante will not sling you if 27 and no slots. They say that the bottle jack will be damaged.

Two Lucky Fish chiming in a bit late. We are planning to be there! We missed last year because apparently First Communion is more important than boating, or something.

I'm heading up Friday, from Seattle, with one child aboard.

Question: Do I need to contact Port of Friday Harbor, or do I just show up and ID myself on the radio?

Tim,

It will be good to see you. We missed you last year.

I just pull into H Dock and find an empty slip among the Brats. No use involving the Harbormaster when you know where you're going

More than 40 boats signed up!! All set for another good time. Just a reminder, please bring a table if you can, I'm renting 4 of the big 3x6 ones to put food out on but we always need more. The port is as always very happy to have us coming, so are Downriggers and West Marine. Remember to bring your nametags. If you don't have one contact Roger and Janet on Dreamer, they have been very generously making them for us. And, remember a few of us are heading to Victoria, B.C. On Sunday, anybody who wants to join the group, you're welcome to go with us. I'll post another time with some last minute info. Welcome! Welcome!

Right you are Barry!

If you desire an official C-Brat name Tag (s), PM me with your full names, Boat name, Homeport, Model of C-Dory and it's trim color. We'll have them ready on the 18th.

Looking forward to this CBGT. It's always a great time. Hopefully the Olympic Peninsula will be well represented. Hint to DaNag and Foggy Dew!

Is anyone leaving from around Seattle? We're debating about whether to trailer to Anacortes/Bellingham/Coronet Bay, or to just leave *really* early to go through the locks and head out.
