05/19 - 05/21 - 2017 Friday Harbor CBGT

Nomad is planning on hanging out in the San Juans for 3 or 4 nights after the gathering. If anyone else is of like mind, let us know.

Martin and Andrea.

I'm in the midst of outfitting my boat for shrimping in time for this Saturday's opening. I have never shrimped before (except once on someone else's boat). I am very excited. I've really enjoyed crabbing for the last couple of years, but my gut tells me I am going to enjoy shrimping even more!

If I remember correctly, some of the Friday Harbor Gathering boats go out shrimping on Saturday during the CBGT. I'd love to go along. What boat(s) should I contact on Friday to get "plugged in"??

Hey Greg and Cindy......Tanya saw some of your Hawaii pics on FB. Hope you guys enjoyed your vacation.

Anyway, please add the two of us for dinner tentatively.... I say tentative because it remains to be seen if we will be able to make it or not. Hope we can, but we'll see.

Take care and we hope we do indeed see you guys there,
Dan and Tanya on Echo

I've got the Group MMSI for C-Brats entered in my directory now...might play around with that on the weekend.

Tristan and I used the hose and micro-fiber cloths to knock the off-season grunge off the boat. It really needs some wax, but honestly I may not get to that. We changed the oil last weekend.

Main is serviced. I'll do a quick oil change on the kicker this week after work. Just ran thru a post-winter system check. Everything appears working EXCEPT the fuel gauge. It does not even move. :x

As we finalize plans and gather details for the gathering (to be posted later this week) we are in need of 3 more pieces of information.

1. How many of you are interested in a free safety inspection of your boat by the local Coast Gaurd Auxiliary? We have them lined up, but would like to give them an estimate of the boats interested. Respond here or by PM if you would like one.

2. We have quite a few fresh faces and boats coming to this event, so are any of you with freshly named or un-named boats interested in a boat naming/de-naming/christening Ceremony? Respond here or by PM please.

These have been performed at this largest gathering for years now and we do a pretty casual form of the ceremony involving some greenery and a bit of beer/wine/spirits poured over the bow of you boat. example here http://www.c-brats.com//files/boat_chri ... remony.pdf

3. We are missing a designated, master of the Christening ceremonies, so if anyone is interested in performing these, get in touch by PM and we can share the script with you plus provide you with the certificates as well. We could do it, but would like to give others a chance. Pat had a good time with it last year but is out enjoying the great loop as you read this.

Hi Greg, depending on the timing, I'd be interested in the safety inspection. Like Sam, I may be taking off Saturday afternoon, and will be arriving in FH either Thursday evening or Friday morning. Anyone else getting an early start Thurs afternoon? If nobody else is arriving early I may stay at one of nearby islands Thurs night (James, Jones, Turn, Cypress, etc.).

-Mike

Mike, The safety inspections with be Saturday in the AM hours so you should be fine there. There are normally a few boats at FH as early as Tuesday.

Greg

Hi Mike,

We plan on arriving FH on the Thursday afternoon. Get settled in early. We know others will be arriving on the Thurs as well. There are always a few early birds at gatherings.
If we arrive Friday afternoon. Phone customs, then move over to a slip, we then have to walk up into town to the border services office and present our paperwork and purchase a US cruising licence. Returning to the boat, Brats are getting ready to go to the C-Dory dinner. It's all a bit of a rush (we found that out last year).
Greg, do you know if the Thursday arrivals get the C-Dory discount? I know they offer the discount for those who want to stay on for Sunday night.

Martin and Andrea.

Martin and any folks planning to extend their FH stay. The discounted group rate for moorage only covers our period of reservation which is Friday-Sunday. I think folks in the office have often been nice and extended that a day or two in the past but don't count on it as a policy I was told.

37 boats expected right now, and still a week out,

Greg

Susan and I PLAN ( yes i can hear laughing from here) to leave on Wednesday and head to the islands. We will be anchored out some where until Thursday or Friday. After the gathering we will be around for a week in the islands fishing for lings.

We missed Friday Harbor the last two years. The stars are finally lining up again. We will arrive late Friday afternoon and leave Sunday.

Greg, thanks for all your hard work putting this together.
