05/20 - 05/22 - 2016 Friday Harbor CBGT

George (ghone, kerri on) - I see you are from Nanaimo. Hope to meet you at the gathering and get your personal take about Nanaimo and that area.

We plan to meet up with buddy I met via internet years ago who lives on Denman Island - it may be on our way home, or just shortly AFTER we cross to the east to see the waterfall at Princess Louisa and explore the Desolation Sound area. All based on weather, of course!

CUSTOMS - am grateful for info folks are posting about customs both ways. Like to have some idea what to expect in advance, besides info on various government websites. Cross frequently around Buffalo, NY (Peace Bridge) area but requirements listed for our there differ quite a bit!

BTW, anyone who has the time or inclination to join us is welcome!!!

Susan (the talkative half of John and Susan)

First come first served and welcome to the group. If we need to move boats around we can always do that later. The lack of origination is the beauty of this groups. We have a basic plan of being in a place at a time and enjoy each others company. Planning beyond that is cat herding.

I bet there will be a bunch of C-Brats going to Princess Louisa after the August gathering in Powell River.

Martin.

Martin - thanks for that info as you never know about plans... We still plan to hit Louisa Falls early, but might enjoy a repeat. OR - we might even be so sick of each other after 4 months in cramped space that by August that we'll return a month early - and hit the gathering in Bellingham around the 20th. Might be especially fun after meeting/making friends in Friday Harbor...

Tom - cracked up at your comment about herding Cats!! Susan's name is a no-brainer for me to remember (and SHOULD be for John) - and I see you hail from Everett (also easy to remember as it's our grandson's name). So I already feel a connection, even if nothing else in common. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Just reading thru some of the gathering announcements to get a feeling for when gatherings are held in different parts of the country. Question for the San Juan organizers, do the San Juans gatherings tend to be in late May most the time, or are there other organized gatherings during the year, and if so, any thing in the plans for after September this year, or anything in the thought process for 2017? Thanks. Colby

Yes, Late may is the normal window for this San Juan based event. There are other gatherings in the northwest generally between April and October (+ boat show in winter) but they do vary year to year.

For 2016 so far there are two more in August. First Powell River, then Bellingham

Going to this photo album gives a greater sense of the variety of locations.

We're in. Where do we sign up?
Coming from Cowichan Bay, BC

Hi Blake,

Hey it will be great to see you at Friday Harbor.

Sign up by going to the "EVENT SIGNUPS" button at the top button bar just under the "The C-BRATS" logo.

Are you coming on the water or trailer down the island somewhere?

Time to start thinking about Dinner signups. We have a group reservation for Friday night the 20th at the Rumor Mill.

Some of you have posted your interest in this thread or by PM and if you did, we have you on the list already. For the rest of you, please send us a PM if you are planning to attend this dinner out with how many seats you need. A menu sample is on the website and kids are welcome of course.

Thanks Brats,

Greg

Join the event using the Event Signups link near the top of the page and more details will be added to this thread as the date approaches.

Feel free to send me a PM if you need anything specific.

Anything I need to do other than joining this group in order to attend? What are the basics I should know?

Just a thought:

If you're wondering about what goes on and what to expect and to be prepared for, you might try reading a few of the past years threads on this get together, and looking at the photo albums of same.

Together with this years thread, they'll give you a very good idea of what the event brings. I know I'd feel a lot more comfortable having done so. Goes for other events as well.

Have fun!

It has been a while since we have been up north, so we are planning on getting to the gathering. The plan is to leave Monday the 16th and hopefully be on the water Wednesday or Thursday.

Can we still get in on the dinner out?

Steve and Karen

Pegasus (Ryan & Kate White) would like to be added to the list of attendees for the Friday Harbor cruise. It's our first gathering since getting the boat so I may need some pointers on how and where to get moorage and to be part of the dinners.

Thanks

Greg, Please add me to the Friday Evening dinner. (Harvey, for one, to add to the list.) Thank you.

Ryan, Most of the questions are answered in the current thread, if yhou go back through them. Another option is to go back and look at the threads for the year before (or more), Do a search for " Friday AND Harbor AND 2015 " for a starter. or " Friday AND Harbor AND May " if you want more info on the weekend. Basically, the dock reservations are already made through the C-BRATS --> that's what Greg and Cindy are doing. There is a pot luck on the dock and a group meal to sign up for. You will pay the moorage at the FH office after you arrive, and pay the meal at the restaurant.

It's a pretty easy going bunch, good fun, gopod people and great boats.
