06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

Hello everyone,

Well, things are really underway. So far, we have nearly 24 boats signed up...Lankford Bay has not blinked....yet. So be sure to call and get a slip if you plan on being at the marina. As I mentioned earlier, anchoring out is definitely an option, but getting in and out, etc. might be problematic.

Sign up if you haven't
If you need a launch, and haven't told me, do so.

At least a few of us are not even owners yet! But we are looking forward to meeting all of you experienced people...and learning.

When Chestertown sees 24 C. Dory's cruising around the final bend to the landing they will probably call 911!

79 days and counting!

Tom, just signed up with Langford Bay Marina. No problems there getting a spot for Friday/Saturday June 3/4. I will probably be coming up using the trailer, just to save time/wear/tear on the boat so I will need a spot to launch and a place to park the truck/trailer for that period of time.

The lady at the Mairina said she had 11 reservations now so we're doinig well. Looking forward to it, will be in contact for more detailed directions as the time approaches.

Charlie

Thanks Charlie...

I do have to advise everyone that Lankford Bay will eventually fill up. They were originally holding 15 places for us...and will take more..but it won't be long before spring here..and then all the boat people start plans...and Lankford Bay is a cruising destination for many...the slips will fill up. So if you plan on taking a slip reserve...you can always cancel within their time frame.

Charlie,

You are welcome to park on my field...we'll probably have about seven or eight rigs there..no problem. It is right across from my house...and only a mile from the launch site. There will be a three day launch fee, i think it is $20 ..i'll get the details. From the launch site to Lankford Bay Marina is about a mile...If you want to check a chart, the launch is in Long Cove, just off Lankford Bay, and the marina is on Davis Creek, just off Lankford Creek.,which is just off the Chester.

Thanks Tom. Will take you up on the parking. I forgot to mention that there will be two humans on board, me and Sally and one four footed Silky Terrier, Andrew McHamish (Andy) who for the first six months of his life thought his name was "DAMMIT" :smileo .

I just realized that if all show up who have signed up, we will have ten of these United States represented at this gathering. Is that some kind of record? And of course, our "nomads" El and Bill.

Just had word from Jeff M at the factory that hull # 22284 (ours) is underway and will be finished and shipped in 2-3 weeks. The water has broken and labor is underway!

Don't know, I think we probably had that many states represented at the SBS / CBC (Seattle Boat Show / C-Brat Convention) and a couple of provinces to boot. But probably not at any prior on-water event...

Interesting...our hull, #CD25115D505, is not yet underway, but we are signing the papers for the Big Debt (for the Honda financing) this afternoon. It is supposed to go into the mold before the end of the month, and they tell us delivery is four to six weeks after than. I really can't imagine why a CD22 would come out in two or three weeks and a CD25 would take twice as long...oh, well, it is what it is.

Tom, I will be at Cutter tomorrow closing the deal too... I have changed my screen name to the new name for the boat. You can't beat the Honda financing. Pat Kelly [Pat- Pat] now Katie Marie III [my daughter is I and old boat is II.

Yep -- you got it, Pat. We leave CO today, bound to the southa'rd to visit with Ami and Bryce et al., and then turn our 'bow' easterly. Looking forward to seeing you good folks on Otter back in Chesapeake.

Time for an update from Piney Neck, Rock Hall, on the good old Eastern Shore of Maryland, where Spring is grudgingly beginning to appear.

Last Saturday we had a meeting of the "planning committee" (well maybe that is a little too formal) to talk over the June 3, 4 5 event. Attending were Anne and Doug Baxter( c.dory 22), John Seidel (c.dory 22) Steve Bowser (considering purchase of a c.dory 22) and Tom McHugh (awaiting delivery of c.dory 22).

Here is a rough idea of the plan for the event.
Trailered boats will be arriving anytime from Thursday to Friday afternoon.(If you are coming earlier ,let me know, or remind me). We will have people available to help you get situated. I will send the location of the place to get the launch rame permit later.

We will have a table at Lankford Bay Marina on Friday with information for those who are checking in there.

Roughly, here is what we plan:

Friday evening...pot luck, wandering around visiting boats.
Saturday....choices are a run to Chestertown..about 12 miles upriver to a beautiful Colonial town..walk around, lunch..
Others may choose to just explore the river..lots of great little creeks, coves, for exploring. Some may just want to stay put ,and hang around the pool. It is also possible to make a trip by boat to Rock Hall harbor, Kent Narrows, all interesting places. John Seidel has offered to prepare a "local map" for all of us. John is a professor at Washington College and works in the field of marine archaeology...he spends a lot of time on the river.
Saturday evening..gather about 5 for "refreshements" and food..we will have grills available, crabs(i'll be asking who eats them later, and we'll work out a cost per person).. We will offer to purchase things like hot dogs, hamburger, etc since some may arrive with little on board and there is no easy shopping near the marina..... and music of course a bit later.

I have asked El and Bill if they might be willing to share with those who are interested some of their extensive knowledge about iiving aboard, destinations, and their adventures.

As I have mentioned earlier, Lankford Bay may reach a saturation point on how many of us they can take. The do have some mooring space too, but that is also limited. So, if a slip is important, please register with them asap.

If you have any special needs email me personally. 73 days and counting.

tom/terraplane

PS. Some have asked me what is the "terraplane" moniker. When I registered i used it as a user name...just to put something down. I play the Blues, (blues harp) and Terraplane Blues, by Robert Johnson is one of my favorite pieces...

When our boat arrives, the name will be SALLY'S SISTER... I have one daughter named Julia, and the youngest (12) is Sally. This is away to keep them both happy!

By the way, how do you change your user name on this site/

Tom, I think you can just log in, go to "profile," and then scroll down to the block where your vessel name is - either fill it in, or delete what's in there and replace.

Good meeting on Saturday! We're gonna have fun!

OK, I should read more carefully. Now I see you were asking about the screen name, not vessel name...(all that stuff about Sally's Sister got me confused)...I don't know how to change that!

By the way, how do you change your user name on this site

Just ask TB or DN to do it, and it magically happens. You ready now? Once the username is changed, your automatic login may not work until you redo it with the new name. Your password will stay the same. We can't see the passwords, although we can change them if we are feeling wicked. But the only one we do that to is Catman once in a while, and sometimes B~C just for fun.

I really think your Sally's Sister reasoning is cool. Sounds like you live in a fun family.

Let me know...........

Ya know, I think i'll just stay "tom/terraplane"...anyway, i'm a technological idiot on these things..computers..Mywife says it's like watching a monkey with a pencil!

Thanks Tyboo for the assist though.

Yeah, fun family. I'm surrounded by women..wife, two girls, and a nine year old black lab...father's day is great.

Ya know, I'm so impresed that you Maryland folks are going to all this trouble for all of us, and some of you don't even own a C-Dory yet. These boats do indeed attract a special crowd!
