06/03 - 06/05 Eastern Shore, Maryland gathering

Yeah, Dun, ...Maryland's motto is "The Land of Pleasant Living"....and I can tell you that , especially here on The Eastern Shore, hospitality reigns.

And hey, remember that those of us with new boats will have a chance to have our own mini "boat show" here at Lankford. A chance to see all the modifications and changes owners have made to the boats...For me, i'll be looking for tips on taking care of an outboard, using trim tabs, gps, etc. Never had any of that stuff on the boats i've owned previously.

PS. If you've seen the recent entries on another thread on bulging gas tanks and the loosening of tanks...I'd appreciate any commens from people here on that issue. Just a little disconcerting. Should I expect to have to remedy loose tanks at some time?

Here is a possible plan: I expect that I will be taking the boat out for most of the week after our gathering...leaving MOnday, the 6th...return on the 11th, Saturday. If any are interested here is a possible plan: Baltimore Inner Harbor one night, anchor out near Tilghman Island next night, anchor out at Oxford next night, up theTred Avon..DixonCreek.. , cross the bay to a nice marina, pool, bar, etc. next night... back across to St. Michaels and Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum..either anchor out or slips....back to Rock Hall...Thhis would be a great introduction to the Bay...

If you are interested, let me know...No planning needed yet...

Count us in too!
I guess the weather in June can be iffy, but there are so many places to go! Oxford is one of our favorite places, and Annapolis was the site of our brief honeymoon in 1968!

Howdy All-

I was at Cutter Marine today. The fact that they are in the boat business not withstanding (e.g. very busy summer weekends), Gary and Ruthie, owners of Cutter, definitely want to be able to partake in our event for at least some of it. They (Gary and Ruthie) were saying how much they would love the group to be able to visit Cutter.

Thus, this idea of an after-cruise is very interesting. Perhaps on Monday we could cruise over to Cutter prior to Inner Harbor, or if the Baltimore County waterfront is of interest (very nice, but very low-key compared to Inner Harbor), I would be happy to lead a tour of some of our finest waterfront watering holes and anchoring spots. There is also some fine gunk-holing in Frog Mortar Creek, and my home and slip is there if anyone needed a quick charge, water re-fill, or wished to tie-up at our transient slips over night (we have three spots on my community dock but only one with dedicated power however). I would not want to speak for Cutter Marine (10 mins by water from me), but their place is very nice (pool, showers, etc.), and some transient slips are usually available.

So, if anybody has an interest in visitng what we lovingly refer to as the "Red-neck Riviera, Chesapeake Style," let me know. Also, the C-Dory per-capita ratio is probably higher on the Middle River complex than anywhere on the east coast. That can be fun too. Just this past weekend (mid-March is still early on the Chesapeake) an unknown green CD-25 flew past our docks, without any weather worries at all!

Some new pics of our "work in progress" have just been posted. Take a gander if ya like.

Cheers!

PS- Terra Tom, Ruthie said your boat is the next one due in, and ours right after yours... When your over at Cutter, let me know and we'll meet you for a coffee or something more interesting. Can't wait to see your new boat!

TJ and Jen,

Thanks for the update on my boat...I will defiintely let you know when I'm coming over... Jeff Messmer sent me a few pictures of my boat in progress at the factory...very exciting.

I really like this idea of a post-Lankford cruise. (My wife, keeper of the calendar, reminds me that I have a routine checkup with my Doc at Hopkins on Tuesday, June7..But I might just schedule this in with a trip to either the Inner Harbor or Middle River).

I definitely think a run to Cutter's and a "tour of the finest establishments" on Middle River would be fun...So many choices...a combination the urban and rural sides of the Bay would be my choice.

Keep those ideas comin' folks...

Post cruise sounds great, since that was sort of our plan (thanks to Otter Tom) anyway! Not knowing the territory, we are open, only constraint is to get a certain boat safely back to Alexandria, and ourselves on to Long Island by the following weekend...

You folks are making this tough on me, now, with all this talk of an after-get-together cruise. I have to teach all that week and you actually have me contemplating a post-ponement. Just wishful thinking, though, as I can't wiggle out of it. However, if your itinerary finds you out and about on the following weekend, who knows?

John,
Let's see...students on the river...two to a C Dory..How many in the group? Maybe this could be a grant to our "organization" from the deep pockets at Washington College. "Students will experience a one on one experiece, two to a boat, as a flotilla of these boats carries them on a day of exploration of the Chester River...etc."

To all of you..this is terraplane/ the nag. I talked to Lankford Bay the other day...18 reservations for slips. They expected 15. But, John tells me he can handle about 23 if a few are willing to raft up one boat deep.

So, get your name in if you expect to be at the marina. If you anchor out nearby, we can shuttle you in by dinghy.

Hi All;
OH PAIN! OH PAIN! I am still employed... Boy, I should do a fast retirement to make this trip... Maybe next year will free me from the egos and time demands of broadcast TV.

I will be praying for all of you for a safe gathering and travels. If anyone is coming through Norfolk/Va. beach area and needs a humble place to drop, I have hide-a -bed that will rest your tired bones.

I don't have a trailer so my journey from here will be via the Bay. I think it is abt 185NMs fm VA. Beach, VA to the 'gathering'. Who knows, maybe we can help with a Tidewater gathering in the future.

ENJOY! Have a blessed Easter....

Sea Angel,

YOu should come...take it in stages...maybe we could send out a "scout boat" to meet you...you might win the distance award!!

For all of you..type in Rock Hall, Maryland on google...then go to the Rock Hall page...it will give you an idea of our village...Lankford is about 4 miles from Rock Hall, and the trolley will pick you up if desired...It is a laid back, still pretty traditional, waterman's town...our big controversy and happy current issue is the construction of our new (and beautiful) firehouse.

TerraPlane Tom --
Steve, from the Dominican Republic, is considering a place for his 30th Anniversary celebration. Please check out the thread on this C-Brat Site, Suggestions for a 30th Anniversary Trip. Perhaps you could assist him with your local knowledge of ideas for an anniversary trip -- like b&b's, places to visit, boat rentals, visit to C-Dory Chesapeake Gathering. he might prefer a cruise on the Erie or some similar alternative, but thought you could have some ideas for him on the Eastern Shore. Thanks --

To all who are coming on June 3, 4,5

We really need to get pictures of this, and arrange to get them on this site...seems to me this could be a great "photo op" for us. Now, I'm still in the Brownie Hawkie era, and a scanner to me means CAT scan... So, is there anyone out there who would volunteer to be our photographer for the event?

Another detail.

If those of you who are planning on launching from our Long Cove ramp, and parking on my field would again send a note to that effect I'd appreciate it. As I have said, we have the room...but i will want to send out directions to where you buy the permit, to my house, ramp, etc.

Rain here for the past several days...and damp, cold. Left coast weather.

tom/terraplane

Tom, I need to launch there and need parking in your field.

I have a digital camera and will take pictures but I think the more the merrier, that's the only way we'll be sure to get everything. I will try and ensure I get a picture of each boat/crew for the album. I think they can set it up so that lots of folks can post to the album for the get together. We do need to put captions on them so we can ensure that we know what we gots.

Heading home from Maine next weekend, will be getting the boat ready for the launching after that.

Charlie

Bill or Mike will set up an Eastern Shore album in the Crusises and Events area of the Photo Albums , and everyone will be able to post their photos...over the past couple of years I have posted hundreds of the Left Coast cruises and event photos. Just for fun, page through those albums some day, you'll get a sense of the typical CBGT out here. You Righties are WAY too structured in your thinking! It is fairly amazing that we all show up at the same place at the same time! Out here, we would be ribbing you, Tom, unmercifully about blue blazers and all...and don't even THINK about name tags!

Seriously, I can't WAIT to get there! I will have my trusty Minolta Z1 along for sure!

Tom, My sister Roz and I will arrive sometime Thurs early evening and would like a nice little spot to pitch a tent and put out a couple of folding chairs. We will gladly sit in said chairs and critique those parking empty trailers in your field. I think a scale of 1 to 10 will do. 10 being "I was born with this thing following me" and 1 being, "get back into the car, I can do this with my eyes closed." I am an easy grader because I can identify with anyone who stops, closes their eyes, and thinks to themselves, "I turn the wheel this way and the trailer goes??????" All ten's from me. Robbi

Tom,

I'd like to launch from your ramp and use your field to park the rig. We will be participating in the post weekend cruising, so if it's OK I'd like to leave the rig there for the week.

I'll also bring my camera.

Dun (CTYankee)

Tom - I made you guys an album way early for this one (whoa - Pat will be proud!). We need to see a picture of that durn field!

The album is at the tail end of the Cruises album list, but we'll move it up front as soon as it is one for the books.

All righty then! Another first! Pictures of the field where people will park! I betcha this one is going to have the most pix of ANY album on this site ever, these guys are just rarin' to go, the excitement is in the air! I just can't believe this worked out the way it did, I am so psyched about going, and that's no BS!
