07/16 - 07/18 - Bellingham, WA CBGT

Terry,

We are up for any of your suggested places. We have never been to Jones. Sucia is one of our favorites too. How about Sunday night - we are probably headed to Victoria on Monday and then north from there.

Another BH CBGT Update:

Today we visited the Bayside Cafe and made reservations for thirty (30) for dinner late Friday afternoon July 16th @ 5:30. We can do a head count Friday afternoon. Others might want to enjoy dinner at Anthony's (360-647-5588) or the other restaurant, The Hearthfire Grill (360-527-3473). All within walking distance.

Also made reservations for forty (40) for breakfast July 18th Sunday 8am at the Bayside. Neither Anthony's or the Hearthfire are open for breakfast.

Wow! July 16th is just around the corner! Remember....think SUNSHINE :hot :hot :hot :hot

PS: Peter, sorry to read that you and Caryn won't be able to join us this year but hopefully we'll see you somewhere else along the way....like driving down the highway in Astoria and there you are right beside us!

Terry,

No plans firmed up, except probably will head for Tumbolo Cove and Garrison Bay some time during the week for crabbing. Other stops open!

Pat, Jan, Ken & anyone else interested.

How about Jones Is, Stuart Is, or Sucia Is.
Those are some of my favorite things :note

We are going to have a boat load of people on Rock-C for the first week of vacation. Both Jake and Dave are comming with us. When they get board, we will drop them off back at Bellingham & they will drive home. So we will be looking for spots we can set up camp to get the boys off the boat. Sunday & Monday night we will use Jones Island as our base for exploring the San Juans. So if any Brats are out and about Monday night, your welcome to hang out around the camp fire. Be sure to bring marshmellos and smores fixins. Monday should not be too crowded, the weekend boaters will have cleared out. There might even be room at the dock.

Looks like we won't be able to make the Bellingham gathering. Our daughter is in the hospital with premature contractions. The baby isn't due for another 2 months. We need to stay close to home so that we can help out. Family is most important.

A cruise in the San Juan Islands is still on my bucket list, but it looks like it will be next year rather than this year.

Tony

Tony,
You definitely made the right decision. The San Juans aren't going anywhere, they'll be waiting for you next year. We hope to meet you in Bellingham then.
In the meantime, we are holding really good thoughts for the welfare of your grand baby and daughter.
Our very best to your family,
Bob & Betsy

C-Dawg will make it there Saturday afternoon. The crew is going to berth Friday night in Everett, fish Saturday morning, trailer up north, and launch again at Bellingham, hopefully in time for the potluck.

Ruth and Joe,

Looks like SleepyC will be making the trip to the B'ham CBGT this coming weekend. Hoping to travel in a mini flotilla, from South of Juan de Fuca. Sure looking forward to this event. May leave to the islands Thursday evening to shorten the trip.

Rick, where are you going to fish? 8-1 8-2 is closed until August 1st. only 9 will open on the 16th. just making sure you know. Oh unless you fish the bubble but that's really slow and not worth the time IMHO.

Greetings CBRATS, We are considering a cruising journey to Princess Louisa Inlet after the BHAM gathering adjourns. We will cruise from BHAM to Nanaimo then across the Strait of Georgia to Sechelt Peninsula and then to Chatterbox Falls. Our journey will be casual stopping at places of interest and then returning to Montegue for the gathering there. We've never visited that area and understand that it is beautiful. Any one interested in joining or providing advice? I have read about the Malibu Rapids and understand the importance of the danger associated with foolish mistakes. Also, any advice/experience with "dry ice"?
See You soon,
Ken & Lynn aka Wood Duck

Tom,

I'm going to fish either Possession or Point No Point. Probably drop a trap or two outside Cultus Bay. There's a mid-morning minor flood, so I'll fish both sides of that and pull out about noonish. I figure it'll just be me and about 100 of my closest friends out there. 8)

Woodduck, (a beautiful bird)

Saw your post and would be glad chat PLI anytime. We did the trip on Labor Day Weekend 08, most rain the ranger remembered in her 8 years there, but it was worth every drop. And we were the little boat at the dock who had hot coffee, and a warm cabin, shared with a dozen or so cold and very wet sailer. We enjoyed it, and learned a lot on that trip, about the boat, about us, and about the area.

Here is a link to our photo album in the SleepyC albums. There are photos notations for each of the photos.

I hope that is some help.

Dry Ice, I have not used but have thought about it for extended trips.

Hope to see you at the B'ham CBGT soon.

We used dry ice last year for the first time and had mixed results. It froze every thing is the ice box that was at or lower in the box then the dry ice. Which is great if you are trying to keep food frozen but its hell on the veggies. Wrap the dry ice in a towel or paper and have it cut to fit your needs. If you have a lot of meat to keep frozen then a block in the corner of the ice chest is the way to go. if you just want to keep things cool then a thinner long piece laid flat in the bottom with a think towel over it and then the food on top is much better and put the veggies as high as possible in the cooler.

We placed a fresh caught king in the bottom of the ice box and it froze solid in a hour or so. Before we left I made a gallon of spaghetti and put it in to tupperware container. If froze solid too. The down side is the cost but in a good cooler it should last 5 days if you are not opening it a lot.

the funny thing was the veggies and fruits all asorbed the co2 when it cooled. When you go to eat it it burns you tounge and feels weird. but if you let is set out for a while it goes way and you can eat the food.

The reserved signs for the B'Ham CBGT are attached to the pilings located at P Dock. The :hot is supposed to make an appearance this weekend :thup :thup

Looks like I will be driving up on Friday, only. Just returned from hauling my travel trailer from the Sun Valley area, where it spent the winter (we were staging it for a winter in Tucson which never materialized). I am better but still not 100% so the Admiral wants me to take it easy this weekend.

Please let me know the Friday evening plans.

Warren

The crew of Kim Christine will be attending Saturday without vessel since I am prepping for the annual salmon trip to Nootka Sound, leaving Monday morning for that adventure.

Kim and I are excited to see everyone Saturday afternoon and at the potluck!

Harvey, Well, it looks like we'll have :hot but I didn't get remember to get in touch with the guy that handles the 'stop the wind' dance. Sure has been rough the past couple of days. One of the 21' Ranger tugs stayed on the guest dock the other night because of small craft warnings. So here's hoping that the wind dies down and you'll be able to get here without a lot of slosh.

Warren, looks like the only thing thing going on Friday evening is dinner at the Bayside Cafe @5:30. I have reservations for thirty folks. Did have my own list going but that changes daily due to cancellations and additions. So hope to see you here.

PS: To all Brats with boats this weekend... Just in case rafting is necessary, please bring extra FENDERS if you have them. Thanks!
