Up until now, we have tried not to say that on here. However, since Larry got away with saying Oncorhynchus tshawytscha earlier in this topic, all Hell has broken loose.

Yep, this will be our first time cruising the San Juans. We've scheduled the following week of vacation. :mrgreen: Don't know where we're going after the gathering, just playing it by ear I guess. I'm sure looking forward to it.

How's about meeting up with the TyBoo crew at Sucia sometime late afternoon Sunday after the gathering?

That's what we did last year when we left Blakely. Met up with B~C and Sea3PO there. It seems to me it was a real easy run. We even stopped off at Anacortes to move to a different parking lot, and still made it before the dock at Sucia filled up.

What I remember from last year is clear skies and calm water for all except one of the nine days we spent up there. The only less than perfect run was the last morning crossing Rosario. We had to wait for the fog to lift, and the water was a little steep. By early afternoon, it was clear and flat when we headed through Deception Pass. Is that the norm for that area - more apt to be rough in the morning? It's just the opposite here on the river and just outside in the ocean - usually calm until noon or so when the wind picks up. Of course, we do get our fog in the morning, too.
 
Do-do, I wish I didn't have this summer school thing going and could poke around longer in the Juans.

Daydream, Halcyon and Anna Leigh are heading up to Sucia tomorrow for an overnighter. We're taking along chop sticks and soy, but will try and leave you some Sucia for your trip.
 
Thanks for the welcome. I know we'll have a great time with you all. All I have is a brown blazer, will that be O.K. for sat. night and can I get away with brown birkenstocks? I'd like to send a picture of our boat but don't know how to put one on this site. Is there a way?
 
Knot Yacht, the Management Committee, Apparel Division, has read and (barely) approved your Blakely attire.

I don't know, CM - I like ya' and all, but I'm just not sure how comfortable I'd be with you inspecting my shorts. Particularly if you catch me on one of those short-less days... :smilep
 
Assuming no further equipment failures, lattes shall be served in C-4.

I'm just wondering, will the installation of new officers be held Saturday evening...ya know, vice admiral, rear admiral ? the mention of the latex gloves got me wondering
 
I'm looking for a little help in the fishing department. I'd like to catch something for dinner while we're there for the week but don't know whats open and available in the area. I also don't want to drag everything we own along since we need to bring things besides fish poles, down riggers, and 20# of lead.

Anyone have a suggestion.

The latest Fishing and Hunting news talked of salmon fishing up in them parts. They showed that stretch of water just north of Breakme as being good fishing. Me thinks we got the hot salmon fishing out by the CR bouy. I'm going to save what little salmon mojo I have for the CR and just take a half hearted attemp at some bottom fish up in the Juans.

...I should have the partical board & duct tape flybridge done by then....I hope the duct tape will hold the aluminum lawn chair to the roof in rough seas

The weekend of Blakley what time is dinner Saturday we will also be
Crabing mybe we will stop by for the BQ. Jeff
 
Tim, I am sure others are more versed than I but I did look at the fishing regs. It appears that in parts of the San Juans salmon season is open, 2 salmon a day, only one can be a chinook min 22". Also rock fish is open except cannery and yellow eye. Crab season is also open.

I also need to know if we need a liquor permit for the picnic area for both Friday and Saturday or just the potluck Saturday?

Thanks for the information. Also what I'm wondering is if the lingcod is still open. Can't believe they haven't got the quota for those guys yet but would love to hear we could still chase them. Also what type of gear does one need for salmon while we're there. I wouldn't mind trying to catch one of those either since it's always so good on the BBQ.

Right now my plan is to bring along some loins of Albacore Tuna for Saturday nights pot luck. Hope everyone likes tuna that's not out of a can.

Tim, lingcod closed June 15th. I am a novice saltwater fishermen but I think you would fish them the same as you do on the Columbia. Maybe Lyle or CLou Jon may pipe in.
