07/31 - 08/02 - Nanaimo, British Columbia

We're here in Naniamo with about 17-20 other C-Dorys. Presently in the library with Bill & El (HALCYON) & Ken (WOODDUCK) taking advantage of the air conditioning & wifi service :thup

It's really hot here. Ready for a second shower as soon as you get out of the first one.

George is a wonderful cruise director. Having a great time!

Karen, Glad that you caught it early and now are on the mend. Sure enjoyed the time we spent with you and Steve in Bellingham. Hope to see you again soon.

Well, the first ever Nanaimo CBGT wrapped up a couple of hours ago with a nice Brunch in the Harbor. George Hone did an excellent job and everyone had a great time. It was pretty warm Fri. and Sat. About 18 boats participated, maybe more. A great start to a new tradition.

We had a wonderful time meeting new folks from Canada to California. Can't wait for the Sequim extravaganza to see some of them again.

We just got home from a weekend on the water too, late Fri and Sat night. Spent part of the time Sat doing real live radar drill, (Find shore and boats in pea soup) but did find some of the Tribal Canoe Journey group and got some photos along with increasing skill level on the radar. (Visibility was often less than 50 yards, and sometimes up to 1/4 mile.)

The Ranger at Sequim Bay State Park asked when we (the C-Dories were coming back for there get together. Told him we were on the books for Sept 12 & 13, so you all can be planning on that while you are headed into the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Future.

Sure glad every one made it up to Nanaimo safe and hope the return is just as good. Travel safe, and see you soon.

Arrived back in Oak harbor after a quick 6 hours from Nanaimo. Hot, Hot Hot but really nice people, great organization food, beer, wine, food. So nice to have a gathering in BC. Thanks George and Brenda for all your work. What a success.

We had a great time talking and sweating with everyone. Man was it hot! I never got any time to fish but did get to crab a bit and was rewarded with 6 or seven every day. The point just off of Protection Island across from the harbor was a steady producer. Good to see a people on their way north and others on their way south. Lots of stories and information being passed around over drinks

Our host did a great job hosting the event and I want to thank him for all his efforts. I hope this becomes a yearly event minus the heat, did I mention how hot it was????

I will say that after talking to the local brats I cannot think of a better place to own a towable boat. Nanaimo harbor one day for crab and good times. Tow to bamfield the next day for off shore halibut and in shore sockeye and kings. Tow again to Sooke for kings and whales. Then tow up island to the broughtons. Need to cool off?? Pick one of many big fresh water lakes for water skiing and trout fishing or leave the boat at home and go drift a river. What a great place to live.

HOT, HOT, HOT!!! but hot good, too, as in hot spot for a good time. George, thanks for all your efforts, hope you will be encouraged to host again -- but please pick a cooler weekend next year!

What a fantastic weekend! I had so much fun meeting everyone and sharing stories about our C-dory's and life adventures.
The guys at the marina were exemplary to us with being ok with us directing boats to our dock instead of the inner basin. They were ok with our table and shade tent and Matt even brought us an extra table to use for the potluck. We had great food at the Dinghy Dock pub and more great food at the potluck and a bunch of us were around for breakfast Sunday at the Lighthouse Bistro, more great food. It was extremely hot for our area with temperatures near 100 F instead of a normal 75F. I want to express my appreciation for the effort that everyone made to come to our gathering and all the pitching in to help get folks docked and set up. Brenda and myself look forward to having a gathering next year and we'll work with some local brats to set it up. We'll turn the heat down a bunch!

My list of who attended, sorry if I miss anyone we appreciated you all for coming up.

We will cross wakes down the road, thank you all. George and Brenda :smiled :thup

What a blast. Of heat, and warm personalities.

Thanks to everyone for attending the first annual Nanaimo rondi-voo, and for making it such great big fun. And an enthusiastic state-side round of applause for our northern neighbors, especially genteel George, our kind and capable host. Thank you for all you did to make this so special, George.

It was difficult leaving my water-pals so early Saturday morning, but the wind was light, the water calm. I slowed down at Montague after a beautiful 2.5 hour quest south, morphing from rabbit to turtle. Wonderful trip.

George & Brenda,

Thanks so much for putting together the first Nanaimo CBGT. Can't believe how warm it was...loved visiting your city and hope to do it again...and soon, too! We had a wonderful time & I just loved that cake you ordered :love :email

For our trip home GOYO joined us when we left Nanaimo Sunday morning about 6:05 am. We went through Dodd Narrows at approx. 4000 rpm, then down to Porlier Pass and over to Point Roberts where we checked in with customs. We were out of there by 9:30 and arrived at the Bellingham/Squalicum dock 11:30. Boats loaded on trailers and then hugs & goodbyes.

A wonderful weekend spent with so many folks that we just love being with and sharing these adventures.

Take care,
Ruth & Joe

What a great CBGT! It was our first time to boat into Canada and the Nanaimo CBGT was a great introduction. My family had a blast with the "fishing" off of the pier, Newcastle Island trip, walking around town and of course the C-Brats hospitality.

George and Brenda, my sincerest thanks for hosting this event.

Three Cheers to George and Brenda for putting together a fantastic gathering. Huu Raw, Huu Raw, Huu Raw.
Everything came together so well, thanks to the detailed, thoughtful planning of our hosts.

What a cheerful pleasant bunch of people. We had a lot of fun meeting a few more of the C-Brats. It was very interesting listening to the many stories people shared with us. Also a delight to be welcomed aboard their boats and view the many creative creature comforts people had built into them.
We are now in the confirmed reality that we purchased more than a boat, when we purchased a C-Dory.
Have a wonderful summer everyone.
Look forward to seeing you again on the water.

Cheers :smile

Thanks so much for all the kind words and thoughts. We had a fantastic time meeting everyone and will see you all down the road. George and Brenda

We'll do another one somewhere on the Island next year, maybe Mark Bay maybe Ladysmith?

Will keep you posted, George

Your the man! You did a great job planning this event. Everything went smoothly, except the heat. See if you can order up cooler weather next time. Ann & I enjoyed exploring downtown Nanaimo.
Ann & I had the pleasure of sitting with Goerge at dinner Friday night. If you haven't heard about his sailing adventures, be sure to ask. It is truly amazing.
Sunday we pointed Rock-C south and took our time getting home. One of the highlight of our trip south was a stop at Hope Bay. Nice modern shopping and restaurant. Be sure to talk to the jewler on the second floor. I didn't catch his name, but I spent an hour talking about boating in the local waters. He is an authority on the shipwreck (The Robertson) on the reef near Winter cove.
We made it home safely on Thursday night. After a few days rest, we will be looking forward to next year.

Hi Terry and Ann thanks for coming to the event what fun! Next year I'm turning the heat down a bunch, it was nice to meet you both and Cloe
