08/17 - 08/23 - 2008 Catalina Island Adventure in Paradise

Keith and all,

Typically we chose Wednesday to do our 'all day' fishing trip to bring home the bounty for a fish fry that evening (so far anyway...). A weather 'event' of course could postpone or move up a day. Think island time, island time, no hard schedules EXCEPT the big BBQ Monday eve.

I'll be arriving Sunday late afternoon to pick up a guest dock slip, then leaving with the group on Monday. My daughter will be with me, my son is beginning to f-l-a-k-e (other things to do at 19). But my daughter and I have a plan -- shanghi him, tie him up while he's asleep, cart him off to the ocean, when he wakes up and says "where am I" -- we'll say "In paradise" of course!

Have a safe and enjoyable trip for all those coming from afar, see you there.

I was going to offer to Roger that if his boat isn't ready, he can sleep in my C-Pup's v-berth with my dogs Basenji & Blaze if our Commadore Ron let's Kimiko and me camp out on his lobster boat! I promise to give my dogs a perfumed bath today!

Hi,

I'll show up Monday evening later or early Tuesday and I need to leave Thursday evening. I was planning on Sunday through Wednesday, but there's an urgent task at work Monday for at least part of the day.

No big deal. I'll still get to meet the group and spend some time at the island.

I was at Emerald Bay for a week back in July so I'm not suffering from lack of island time.

I never actually named my boat, even though I wrote a name on my C-Brat signup. I'm going to name it Bossa Nova as soon as I get around to making up a couple of classic looking engraved wooden plaques. Maybe I should put some temporary vinyl letters on it.

Jeff

Don't worry about a name.....Hang around with this group long enough and we'll hang a name on ya.... probably one ya won't like...but we will...

We'll be looking for ya out there....

Well, yet again, I'm not going to be making the trip. Just returned from an overnighter to LA Harbor, doing escort duty for the arriving CGC Eagle and about a dozen other tall ships. Quite impressive and I got dozens of great photos. Worked at the station all day today, and have to teach a couple of chapters on trailering & boat handling in a public education class tomorrow. Have not had a chance to even clean Sealife in over a week. Just too many things going on for me to get away right now. You should have a great trip......seas have been unusually calm for over a week. Water temp is 71 degree out of Channel Islands, and water clarity is amazing. If you guys don't catch some exotics, you're not fishing!

Look for me and Ron Dreher in October at the Santa Barbara cruise.

Surprised no one has posted yet----- no pictures??
We had a great time at Catalina once again.
It was nice to meet the crew of "Cheers", Mr and Mrs. Nash-- sorry I can't remember your first names.
Met the crew of "Sea Queen", Mike and Sona (sp?).
It was good to see old friends- Jim and Cathy (Pounder), Sam and Kerry (Salty C's), Joel and Sue (SEA3PO), Jeff (Bossa Nova?), Steve and Daughter, Melissa (Dora Jean), Steve and Pat (Tee Ten) and Keith and Kimiko (C Pup)
We had to leave early Friday morning as we had a scheduled campout with our motorhome group at one of the members Ranch.
:dog Sadie saw her first quail and got her first sniff of live wild quail-- boy did she get "birdy" :thup .

Roger

Thanks Mike-- some pictures are posted-- hope others took more pics then I was able to get.

Also want to thank Bob Nahm (Catalina Yacht Anchorage) for sending his crew over on the CD25 to deliver a new prop to me.
The 13.25X17 that was on the new 90 would not push me good enough, so he sent over a 13.5X15 to try on the return trip home--- it worked much better!! Talk about service!!

I have several pictures, just no time. I'll try tomorrow night, worked 14 hr day today -- talk about "payback" after a vacation, geeze!

Great time, possibly even tops the one with Mike's (Sealife) impromptu birthday party on Wendy's catamaran! Maybe it was being with my daughter all week...but great it was! :thup :beer

All-

Kath and I again had a great time on the West End. It was good seeing all the folks that Roger mentioned.

Yes Steve, it is a real payback when one gets back to work. I spent all day Monday just clearing my desk.

Kath and I really enjoyed our most recent adventures in paradise. Every year there for us has been excellent. The swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, kyaking in caves, bicycling, hike to USC Center, Monday group dinner on beach, Wednesday group fish fry on beach, dingy cruising, the dogs, Grill coffee, Reef Dinner, third Friday group dinner on Dora Jean; and finally all the great folks who participated and shared their hearts and soles.

Jim and Kath

28 new photos added to this cruise's album, check 'em out.

Again, thanks to all and especially the host(s) for another great event with wonderful people to share it with. Seems to top the year before every year, must be a limit somewhere???

Hi C-Brats,

Has any one thought of the 2009 Catalina Island Adventure in Paradise? Do we have a date/ I know I don't have a C-Dory any more but I wanted to see if I could be over there when you guys are there.

Hi Ron,

I assume mid to late August as usual, haven't seen anything yet. When are you going to update your photo album with your gorgeous Duffy downeaster? ...certainly LOOKS like a C-Dory to me--just a bit bigger!

Hey, you can use us as "bumpers" on the string at Catalina  -- oh wait, 25ft max on the string...

Hi Steve,

Sorry I missed your call. I went out to Frenchies cove. It was so nice out there. I will be at the boat tomorrow, probably late morning. I am going tp try to buff and wax the boat!

I inadvertantly posted this in the WRONG topic ~ senior moment...

For more pictures of Ron's new (to him) Islander, look here.

Sorry about the lighting in the photos, I'll try to do better next visit. It truly is a beautiful boat, very well cared for. Congrats Ron!
