08/18 - 08/20 - Bellingham, WA

Hey, MikeR, I didn't know they also built Chris Craft and Tolly's in that same building. Along with Uniflite and the current boats produced by NMI, that's a prolific lineup.

I've been away cruising and now have 75 engine hours. What a difference a bigger boat makes. Sometimes we don't know what we don't know. I don't know if that made any sense, but I do know I could sure as hell spend the entire summer on the water exploring the Salish Sea and beyond. The boating tick bit me and I'm just fine with that.

Regarding our Bellingham rendezvous, I want to ask what attendees would like to do for dinner Saturday night. Does a traditional potluck appeal to us or would all ya'all prefer to walk up together to Anthony's?

Harald and Heather, I'm delighted you're driving up from Portland to join us. Course, you have another pretty good reason to Venture northward. We'll all get a chance to become acquainted with your evolving black treasure midway through its build. That's pretty darn cool.

Harvey, I wish you could join us because any gig is better when you're there.

Thanks Brock! I'll be up there tomorrow as well through Friday as i have a factory visit Friday morning at 9 unfortunetly my wife can't come tomorrow due to work obligations. So I will be solo. I will check out the marina since I have the time and see if I can spot any brats :-). My wife and I look forward to meeting the gang for the get together in a couple weeks.

Thank you for organizing it. If you need any help let me know. As to dinner either is fine with me but since we are traveling our contribution to the pot luck will be limited. Let me know what non perishables we can bring if we go that route.

H&H

I'll be posting pics of the factory tour Saturday.

We are in Harbor Springs, MI, at Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan, and odds are none to negative infinity that we will be in Bellingham for this CBGT, but we will be there in our hearts! A DOUBLE thanks to Brock (and Mike R?) for seeing that "Bellingham is Back" does not die! We will try to phone in some time during the potluck. We now have 2,900 miles of our Great Loop done, with about 2,200 or so more to go to cross our wake in LaBelle, FL! I post a link to our blog every day in the Daydream's Loop thread under Great Adventures!

Pat and Patty, good to hear from you on your regular frequency that you're loaning me this August. My goodness, you've travelled in your C-Dory almost 3,000 miles. What is that, Miami to Vancouver B.C.? These boats are amazing, their skippers adventurers.

OK (also borrowed from Pat), here's what's happening on the food-front. With the early voting returns from Peter and Caryn, Tom and Susan, Harald, and my slight inclination that way, I called Anthony's at 25 Bellweather Way, the one closest to the marina, and made reservations for 22 people at 4:30 p.m. Saturday August 19th. Am I way off on 22?

Two things: because Western is having summer graduations, we couldn't reserve for 5 p.m. or later, and since the voting just started and others haven't offered their potluck/restaurant preferences, it's fair to wait about two more days or so to collect more ballots. If the restaurant idea loses as more votes roll in from distant counties, I'll call Anthony's to cancel.
So I encourage more votes to have a quorum, and be legal.

Brock- as my favorite bumper sticker says, "Don't blame me, I didn't vote!"

But if I had, it would have been for Anthony's, so good call!

-Mike

OK, that'll wrap 'er up. The polls have closed and the clear winner is Anthony's. The nine lucky lottery winners allowed to attend the prestigious Bellingham rendezvous will be rewarded great food, good weather, an informative factory tour in a fun city, and convivial dock time with some new and longtime pals. This is going to be fun, as smaller gigs have historically offered a little bit different kind of cohesion.

Catman, You are doing great. Sure wish I could participate in the CBGT this time around, but life happens so.... you all have a great time eh

I spent the day washing Reef Madness. We took her 50miles out Tuna fishing on Saturday so the decks were bloody. Getting her presentable for the CBGT. Anthony's sounds good. When is the factory tour? Just trying to get the schedule. Since dinner is early, maybe be can have dessert on the dock. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Gene, the tour will be Saturday at 10 a.m.
And I like your idea of dessert on the dock. We could have some fruit, chocolate, maybe a pie, and ice cream if I can run fast enough. And booze. Hey, it's got sugar...

My wife is a bit paranoid about traffic home due to eclipse - might take a flight or see if my buddy with his plane would be willing to ferry us.

We are still coming but not bringing Ari up north. We will have an inflatable for exploring the harbor and will see you all on the docks. Because we will have a car there, we could drive a couple of people to the tour as well.

Greg

Gene, I'll want to hear more about your fishing adventure 50 miles offshore!
Greg, thanks for the offer to drive us to the factory.
Harald, I've got buddies with boats, but how do I find pals with planes? Maybe I'll try Twitter.

Catman et al,

I think we are going to have to bow out. I looked at trains and other options, all fully booked Sunday. And unfortunately my buddy is busy that weekend re flying. We don't want to end up stuck on the highway Sunday heading south as we have to be at work Monday.

We are sad not to meet all of you , if my boat is still up there please take some pictures and send them my way; my email is harald@seaworthycouple.com. If you make it down to Portland sometime please PM us we'd love to meet you.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend together,

Harald & Heather

Well, bummer, Harald and Heather! But I understand, given the I-5 traffic situation from, say, Portland to north Everett.

There'll be plenty more opportunities to cruise and hang out dockside once your little jewel is delivered. Thanks for giving this one a try, and maybe next year.

They are telling people traveling on freeways to bring food, extra gas, blankets etc. I love this quote on the Oregon Department of Transportation website:

“If travelers plan ahead and come prepared,
we’ll all dance together
for two unforgettable minutes
as the sun throws the moon’s shadow over us.
If travelers don’t plan ahead,
we’ll all go nowhere together
for many forgettable hours
probably throwing shade at each other.”

I think it will be a mess.

Harold and Heather,

We will meet up in Portland some day. Maybe do a group at the Island Cafe. Sorry you are going to miss that CBGT. They are really worth it.

Worst of all this eclipse is delaying my boat delivery to the dealer. Were it not for the eclipse I am told they would be delivering it the 21st/22nd.
