Several C-Brats will be gathering in Seneca Falls, NY for a group dinner at 6:30 PM on Saturday August 8, 09. We’ll then head out the next day to cruise the Erie Canal "til we get to Buffaloooo". It will be a leisurely paced cruise ( 10 mph speed limit) with many stops at canal side towns for chow, shopping, touring, libations, and schmoozing. This cruise will be a repeat of the “09/10/05 Erie Canal” C-Brat cruise/gathering.

We’ll leave our tow rigs at Seneca Lake State Park and use a rental car to get back to the tow rigs to haul out in Buffalo ( No. Tonawanda).

We welcome everyone to come play with us. You don’t have to do the cruise. You could just come and gather on Saturday night, or do any leg of the cruise. Last time several C-Brats did different portions with us. More details will be provided as we near the start date.

Hi Rick,

We're narrowing out choices for some summer cruising, with the Erie Canal on the short list. If we decide to go that direction, can you (or any Brats) recommend a place to put the truck and trailer for a month or more? We would try to work this gathering into our travels if it works out.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Dear C-Brats everywhere.

Since some of us North East C-Brats can't make the August Western Erie Canal Trip with Rick and the crew, three of us are now scheduled to do it in September from the 19th to the 26th. Same meeting place and same itinerary. It's a great trip and if you are close and have never done it, you sould consider either the August or September trips.

Let me know if anyone is interested, we'd like to keep it to 6 or 7 boats because of Marina and Lock wall docking space.

My wife and I plan to cruise the Erie Canal in July and need some info on where to start near Buffalo and a safe place to leave our vehicle and trailer. We plan on taking a week and see how far we get.

Hi Sydmargo,

The West Canal Park & Marina is a county owned park with a good ramp and lots of parking. I left my tow rig here for a week while cruising the Erie. It's in No. Tonawanda.

You just got our attention! Marcia will check her schedule when we get home Monday (we're in SC for a wedding) and see what we can work out.

Hi Nick,

It'd be great if you guys can make it. We can catch up on stuff since getting to know you at the Chesapeake Gathering a few years ago.

My dad was raised in Buffalo and I saw the Erie Canal for the first time at about age 7. I've been fascinated ever since. I have a CD 25 (hull #4) and would really like to try one of these cruises. Job turmoil may prevent or facilitatate our participation depending on how it comes out. I'll be following this forum closely. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Brats,

Marcia just checked her schedule and we are definitely joining you on the August cruise! Looking forward to seeing you again and getting to know all of you better in a great setting.

Regards,

Nick

CT Yankee,
I too would like the cooler less crowded (kids back in school)September time for an Erie Canal Cruise. I wondered what dates in September you had in mind. And if you would mind us possibly tagging along? Do you need a special lines for locking thru? The only locks I'm really familar with are on my car! :?

Hi- Rick & Dun-- I'm thinking of again joining one of your cruises. Since I just sold my 16' C-Dory I was thinking about renting one of those Dutch canal barges that we saw so many of on the canal last time, do either of you have any information on who rents these in the Canal area? Any help would be appreciated. Since I will not be going to the Chesapeake gathering or doing the canals of France this year, I feel I need to do something exciting before the year is over. Thanks for any help Rich

Hi Dave,

We are going Sept 19 thru Sept 26/27, Geneva to Tonawanda (Buffalo). If you can only do part of the trip, there are other haul out spots also. We will gather in Seneca Falls NY or possibly at the launch ramp in Geneva. The only things you really need are two boat hooks, 3 or 4 large fenders, a couple of pairs of old gloves, some regular (15' or longer) dock lines you don't mind getting dirty, a VHF rdio for the lockmasters, and plenty of patience. We can supply more info as we get closer. You should also order this guide.

Let me know if I can help further. Hope you can come with us.

Dun,
I'll check with the war department, but I think we will do just the far west section. We want to go over to Canada anyway to Niagara on The Lake area and check out some of the wineries. That way you won't get real sick of us. Thanks for the info on equipment. I'll pick up the book. Got everything except the second boat pole. I see you had the dates from an earlier post

After living with plans and schedules (schemes and dreams) most of my working life, I don't make very many in my retirement. That said we may be in the W.. Erie in August. All depending how this maiden voyage goes. Looks like we'll pick up the "Fan-C-Dory" mid June in Hartford, Ct then the route seems to be N.Y.C., Hudson River, Erie Canal. I don't know how long we'll take - but it looks like it may fit. I need to figure out how to get the pickup & trailer from Saratoga, NY to Seneca Lakes Park now.

Nick- thanks for the info. Looks like Aug will be the best time for me. I'll try to make plans now to get a large enough canal boat with A/C for use as a mother ship or else as a party barge for everyone. I assume we are talking from the 8th of Aug to around the 15th.---Rich
