Wow, The 5th annual 2014 Mississippi River Gathering is going to be the best ever.
It is all happening the weekend following Labor Day weekend, Thursday Sept. 4th thru Sunday Sept. 7th

Ken of the Pelican has just returned from making the arrangements with the Alton, Illinois marina and they are excited to host us for 2014. The Alton marina is north of St. Louis just above the Melvin Price Lock and dam at mile 202.9 altonmarina.com

The Alton marina is Sharon’s favorite marina, because it has 2 hot tubs. They have agreed to have the pool and both hot tubs up and running for our gathering. This is the premier marina on the entire Mississippi River with a ship store, snack bar, Bar-B-Q Pits, marine gas and 4 star rest rooms and showers.

The marina has restricted access and secure parking. There is a nice boat ramp and room to park RV’s, trucks and boat trailers. (Jay, Terry and Bob, there will be plenty of room for your RV, hope to see you guys in 2014.)

We will be in slips at a fully covered dock (Shade) with all hook ups available and thanks to Ken we have a discounted rate for the gathering. Just mention C-Brats when you make your reservation.

There is a lot to see and do. Plan on more than a few days. You can cruise your C-Dory upriver to the winery and ride the zip lines at the Grafton marina located at the confluence of the Illinois River at Mile 218.
Stop at the confluence of the Missouri River and view the Lewis and Clark historical marker Mile 195.6.
Take your boat through the chain of rocks canal Mile 194.2 to downtown St Louis and view the Arch from the river at Mile 179.3 . Continue just south of St louis to Kimmswick and meet living legends Fern and Hoppie at Hoppie’s marina Mile 158.5. It is an easy walk to the shops and restaurants in Kimmswick. Also in Kimmswick is the historic Anheuser Estate and Museum
Of course, there are all the usual attractions in St. Louis, brewerys, ballparks, etc.
ExploreStLouis.com

The Alton Belle casino is on the river just a couple of blocks away.

The #1 attraction in Alton is Fast Eddie’s Bon Air, owned by the Anheuser Busch company in the 1920’s, Only 7 items on the menu, featuring a 1/2 pound hamburger for 99 cents and the most expensive item is the famous “Big Elwood” tenderloin for $2.99
I like the 29 cent jumbo shrimp. There is always live music and cold beer at Fast Eddie’s. fasteddiesbonair.com

This can be the starting point of an extended cruise or the destination. In May we left our trucks and trailers in secure storage at the Alton marina while we traveled the Missouri River for 2 weeks. Take a bit of extra time and cruise this part of the Mississippi River or explore the nearby Missouri or Illinois Rivers.

Make reservations at the Alton Marina at 618 462-9860

See everyone in Alton

Tex,
We are really excited about the Alton Marina destination but you should know that Alton is in Illinois. No way are we going to give Missouri the credit for such a great marina. We will not give it up.
Can't wait to see everyone and to have shrimp at Fast Eddies with our friends.

Ken, I goofed. I apologize to the good folks of Illinois. It is too late to edit the post. Perhaps the Mods can change it to Alton, Ill.

Tex, Terry,Jay and Bob are taking note of your post and will be looking over a map and our calendars for 2014. Sounds doable at this time. Terry

Quite a bit farther I think, than Dubuque, but it's on my calendar. I'll have to wait until it's closer to see if it works out. Colby

Laura and I are excited about the new destination. Gives us an opportunity to explore the Illinois River from Havana (would probably put in here) to Alton before the gathering. Will try to make our calendar work.

All those who attended last months gathering at Dubuque are very appreciative of the planning for, and execution of, the five days of fun you guys made happen! This of course includes crews of both "Bixbys Cub" (Tex and Sharon) and "Pelican" (Ken and Pat). Without your having followed in the footsteps of what "Ron and Connie" had established, we never would have enjoyed the gathering as we did! And an early "thank you" for the future preparation made on our behalf for next year at Alton, Illinois....

I am an ex-C-Dory owner that upgraded in 2006 to a 1969 Grand Banks 32. My wife and I are now both retired and looking to downgrade back to a C-Dory 22 Cruiser. If there is anyone out there that is wanting to do what I did and trade their C-Dory for my Grand Banks, please email or call me. rickwinters1@opusnet.com, 503-325-1158. :D

Dawg On,

There is a forum on this site to advertise for C-Dory wanted.

This is a discussion about a gathering of C-Brats on the Mississippi river.

Hi fellow C-Brats,

The crew of the Pelican will be providing coffee, orange juice and rolls for all the C-Brats on the dock on Friday and Saturday morning at the gathering.

Doug, Pat has volunteered to accompany Mrs. England to the casino. As if she needed an excuse.

Can't wait to see everyone in Alton in September.

Ken and Pat (Pelican)

Thanks, Ken and Pat for the breakfast offer, now if we could just have Pat bake one of her famous pies. Do they have ovens at the casino?

I see that the gang on "The Last Dance" from Attica, NY put their name on the list.
Welcome back guys.

Ramon and Laura, Check with Ken on Pelican about the Illinois River, He knows that river very well. And be sure to take some photos of the famous jumping carp.

Sounds like an inviting gathering. I just returned from Branson and checked out the State Marina on Table Rock Lake. Nice facility, $20/night including electrical hookup. Just wondering if anyone would be interested in taking the Dorys to Branson after the Illinois gathering? Doug

Hi All, I am a small sailboat owner (the boat, not me) and I am through with sailing. I am now in the market for a used C Dory 19' with engine and trailer. Keep it on the West Coast and I will be interested in a road trip up North or South. Thanks all....

Mississippi Gathering 9/4/2014 to 9/7/2014
Next year 2014 if the cows come in and the creek don't rise we will be there if an old man of 78 can exit his recliner.

Mississippi Gathering 9/4/2014 to 9/7/2014

North Carolina Gathering #7 9/19/2013 to 9/26/2013
Ernie & Erma our leaders planed the gathering for Whittaker Point Marina with lunch in Buford, NC. A tourist type destination that welcomed boaters, just find a place to dock and squeeze in if you can. Later the crew of "Falcon" headed south for Ball Head Island Marina that offered everything, NICE.

Gulf Coast Gathering #7 10/25/2013 10/27/2013
Wefing Marine sponsors the event like a family reunion each year where they put their arms around you with a welcome embrace. This year THE RIVERCREST MONSTER appeared as we approached the lodge adding a mystery. Then cursing out to the Gulf Of Mexico across Apalacholia Bay
to discover an old shipwreck adding excitement.

Unfortunately Carpy will miss this year's gathering in Alton. My son and his bride have chosen September 6 for their wedding. Carpy will be on the hard and Joyce and I will be in Oregon.
We are just beginning to plan for cruising this year and don't have any hard plans yet. I hope we can meet up with some of you sometime this season.
