09/22 to 09/23 - Lake Powell 2018

Just curious. Biggest mistake I ever made was selling my c-dory. I love my little Ranger R21 classic diesel, but my cancer docs keep telling me that I'll die of old age or drowning before the cancer kills me. So I'm on the hunt for another nice 22 cruiser or possibly 25.. But, that isn't the point of this reply.

My curiosity is related to the really big and fun gatherings that I attended a couple of time on Lake Powell. They were a hoot, and and met some nice people. I'm pretty surprised that there were only 2 boats at your gathering this year. I wasn't there, but then I no longer have a C-dory.

What has happened. Is Powell no longer seen as a major destination for brats for some reason? No one taking the lead in encouraging folks to make that trip?

It was certainly the highlight of my boating season for a couple of years.

Just wondering.

I think everyone had other places to be last year. You could have been there with your tug I would have like to see it. who knows maybe more will come this year. Now go buy a new boat!

We’ve had tugs at gatherings in the past, I also remember Robbi in an open aluminum skiff one year. so come on down in whatever you have at the time. We couldn’t make last year due to a family commitment, Uncle Einer turned 102 last September.

We missed last year '17, because we had just completed 8 weeks on the boat at the Trent/Severn Canal and the Mississippi River gathering. We had only been home a few days when the Powell gathering was scheduled for. We will be there in '18.

Last year, we were there just after Jody & Lew left, having decided to spend the time with family. Next year will probably again include family time, but also hope to make the Gathering.

I have wanted to make this every year for a bunch, but I have a conflict first part of October (every year), and that puts me way north of LP. Conflicted? Yes.

Hard dates been settled on yet, or waiting until time gets a bit closer?

No hard dates at this time, but 9/22 or 9/29 look like good dates for the CBGT at Oak Canyon. I’m thinking 9/22 might be the best option.

Like in the past, folks can cruise and explore in small groups on either side of the chosen date.

Any other opinions?

Nothing etched in stone yet, but I may end up joining some others in September on a cruise down the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers that would likely preclude me from joining in at Lake Powell this year. However, if this moves into October... Colby

Thought I'd better update here. As of now, I am planning on joining the group doing the Tennessee and Cumberland River cruise Sept 10-24th, so will not be available to join at Lake Powell during this time. Think we need a big C-Brat calendar to keep all the events on different dates! Colby

Any ideas on solid dates?

Unless there is open rebellion, let’s lock in September 22, at Oak Canyon. I’m not sure what day we will be on the lake, but will probably be at Oak Cyn a day or two earl in order to stake out some territory.
