I know not what course others may take...but as for me...give me gas and I'll be there. (petroleum based please...not that other kind).

We are going to wait until Thursday to go down. Looks like the weather will get better just in time for the Gathering. We will just have to wait to see New Bern by water . LOL Somebody has to eat all these bratwurst Friday night ! So make sure you get gas to show up Larry & Pat ! Be safe all talk to you soon ! Tracy

We're leaving here thursday afternoon, a few hours behind Patrick and Donna (somebody's gotta watch the highway for whatever falls off their boat/trailer)...should arrive by midnight, and probably sleep in the boat, on the trailer, at the landing. Which reminds me...is there any sort of skinny-dipping law in Oriental?

That's cold, guys...... But if I find gas, I'm going anyway.......

Patrick

The BP's got gas this morning...$25 limit (just under 1/4 tank for me) lines...lines...lines! I figure it'll take me 6 hours and $110 to fill up if I rotate within the line...then go park my truck till thursday.
It is chilly this morning, but supposed to hit the 70's later on....

Hi Folks,
I'll jump back to yesterday in Oriental. To catch up, Pat & I took our new boat (non-CD) down to spend the nite at the town dock, if there was any space (they have a "free" slip about 50 ft long that usually accommodates one boat on each side). Alma's Only, David, and Valkyrie, Nick & Marcia, were already there, plus 2 other shortish outboard's. Valkyrie was tied up along the bulkhead. We just hung there about 10-15 ft off for a while chatting with them and filling in our C-Brat credentials, hoping those other 2 boats would leave. After 10-15 min. one did, so we pulled over to the slip and tied up. Mick move Valkyrie over when the other guy left, so we pretty well filled up the place and all spent the nite, as I reported Sun. PM.
Anyhow, Mon. AM David, Nick & Marsha head out to do some exploring, heading down to Beaufort, Morehead City, and maybe Cape Lookout. The wind was picking up out of the NE, and was predicted to be stronger on Tues. They pulled out about 10:45 AM. Pix att. below. These are 2 well outfitted/tricked out boats, if you're gonna be at the gathering, give them both a close look.

We stuck around, did a boat chore or 2, had lunch at M&M's cafe, and left about 1PM. The wind had picked up by then and it was pretty sloppy heading out of the harbor into the Neuse, If it had been that strong when the other folks left, they would have had a slow trip across to Adams Creek and the "ditch" to Beaufort.
Here's the reason our CD-25 is for sale now, shown at the Oriental Town Dock a few weeks ago:

Sorry we won't be here for the gathering this weekend, hope the weather will cooperate.

Hi Al and Pat ! Thanks for the up date on your visit and the weather. I have my fingers and toes crossed that the weather clears out before the gathering. You be safe on your trip up North next weekend ! Larry called David and Dayna last night to check on them . David told Larry he would keep up updated on the weather down there. See everyone in a few days ! Be safe.. Tracy

Al and Pat-

Don't want to derail the thread, but I'm curious: What make and model is that new boat of yours that replaced your CD-25?

Joe. :teeth :thup

Hi Joe,
It's a 30 ft Mainship Pilot II "Rum Runner" You can see some info on it at http://www.boatanchors.org/mainship.htm that I gathered as we were considering them late this Spring. We really like it, it's a 2004 model, but lived in a dry stack in FL until July, is in terrific condition. Much different than the CD-25. We've put about 40 hrs on it under 2 mo.s, o'nited twice I think. Really looking forward to the Fall weather.
Sure would like to be a one boat family again, have a nice 2008 CD 25 for sale :)

If anyone's making plans I'd advise waiting til thursday. I left Surf City around 8 this morning and arrived at MHC around 5. I was crusing pretty slowly siteseeing mostly under 10 MPH. Things weren't to bad until I hit MHC and all Hxxx broke loose gust that I guess were 40 mph. I'm at the MHC Yacht Basin marina (nice accomidations and sheltered a little pricey $45 a day for a 22). If you come this way be careful under the railroad tressle bridge right before the marina I had waves washing over my roof. I plan to leave for Oriental thursday weather permitting. Ran into Pegasus at Topsail monday I was out fishing with two old friends I had'nt seen in 46 years.

Marvin thanks for the update. We are going to wait until Thursday to come and plan on keeping a serious eye on the weather. You sure got a huge grin out of Larry when he read about the waves you took on..not sure if he was happy or worried.. little of both I think  Please keep us updated ! Thanks again..Tracy

Hi Folks,
It looks to me that the weather forecast improves as it gets toward the weekend. We watch Weather Underground on the PC, take a look at http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=28571 click on "hourly" for details, and go back there as the week goes on. That shows Oriental, you can plug in any city you want.
It's gonna be a great gathering, we're sorry to have to miss it. It looks like the wind will moderate & be NW on Fri. PM, come around thru W and to SW on Sat., very nice for Oriental.

Well...I sat in line for 3 hours tonight...and got my limit of $40 worth of gas...if I can do that again tomorrow I'll be good to go!
Anybody know what the gas situation is like from Asheville east????
Tempers are flaring, cops park at the stations after dark. Another week of this and it's gonna get really bad!

Tracy I thought you and Larry's trips attracted rain not typhoons? As far as the wave over the bow it was only that bad under the bridge where the waterway narrowed and the wind was bucking the tide. Worst I've seen in the C-Dory or maybe any boat for that matter. But the boat just slipped right through it. Local weather here says it will be clearing by friday and predicting 15 to 20 thursday.

Larry no one around here Sanford, Spring Lake,Fayetteville are having any trouble getting gas. We haven't been any where else lately. Carrie said they were not limiting the gas down at New Bern, Alliance,Oriental. So once you leave the mountains I think you will be ok.

Marvin your right it's usually just the rain we bring with us.. I think it was all that Mountain dancing that Larry was doing to get good weather. I believe he may have danced a wee bit too long...lol :D You be safe while your out visiting ! Did your Aunt and Uncle come along for the boat ride today ? I sure hope not ! See ya soon...Tracy
