10/20 - 10/22 - Gulf Coast Gathering

Thanks guys, glad you liked the photo maps and hope they help a few folks out. Just in case anyone is interested in viewing their home or boat or anything from the air....go to Google and Download "Google Earth"....I will be coming down the Apalachicola River from Georgia and I have already picked out a nice anchorage (beautiful sandbar beach and cove) for my first overnite stay. You can almost see the fish jumping in some places.

Hi folks -

Just introducing ourselves - we are Skip & Patty Hood of Tallahassee. This would be our first gathering. Marc spotted us pulling out our C-Dory at the Appalachicola city ramp last July 4th weekend and invited us. So you can blame him if we turn out to be obnoxious :D .

That very ramp happens to be where we first saw a C-Dory. 5 years ago. Had just returned from an Appalach - Panama City "cruise" in our hard-core CC fishing boat. Wind blown and sunburned. Patty noticed a '22 Cruiser tied up on the other side of the basin while I was hauling out. I saw her giving me this :thup and motioning me over for a look. On the factory web sit that night and on the phone to the dealer the next day to get our own. No regrets for sure!

Look forward to meeting you all.

Skip

Hi Skip & Patty,

Welcome to the Brat Pub....what took you so long getting here?

Be sure to sign up so you can get all the latest news on the geathering form the Cheiften Byrdman. As to the prize for "obnoxious", I was hoping to win that prize. :P But good compatition is always welcomed. We will all be looking foward to meeting the very smart Patty...and you too.

Skip and Patty, I am glad you are coming ! That was Fred Sawyers boat you saw in Apalachicola . Ill definatly invite Fred to the Bash . He is C Doryless now , but his old boat , the Teal will be there .It moved to Crystal Springs MS. and is now the Delta Belle . We will have a big time !!!!!
Marc

Ok, driving directions :
First you gotta get to Apalachicola . Once on Hiway 98 [ which is also called Ave E ] you turn north on 12 th street [ which is locally referred to as Bluff Rd] You go about 5 miles and cross a set of railroad tracks [with a big new house on the right] and continue to the next set of tracks , and cross those . In approximately another mile you will see Magnolia on the Rt. Its a loop so you need to continue past second Magnolia and turn on Pogy Rd. Its dirt but in pretty good shape . Its a straight shot to John's house from there . We will mark it and will figure out parking when folks arrive . There is a cleared field one property over that can be used for boats and overflow . There is a small servicable boat ramp at the house that we can use for the smaller boats and the bigger attendees can use the city ramp and run on up to John's . We will have folks to help with logistics , and rides if need be .
There is a downstairs shower that can be used , however there is a well system and we would like to not tax it too much . I will get a Porta Potti on the grounds as well . We plan on making dinner Fri night , breakfast Sat A.M. , dinner Sat P.M. and breakfast Sun A.M.

There spaces to tie up about ten boats at John's, the Tug should be there to gawk at and ride , and we have two useable spaces in the City Marina and a friendly harbormaster . There is also the Rancho Inn on Hiway 98 , and the Gibson Inn if for some reason we have bad weather .

Again my cell phone is 850-653-5950 . It works partially at John's house , but Ill check messages frequently .

I look forward to a great first "Gulf Coast Gathering " !!!!

Marc

Hi again, folks -

Thanks for the welcome. What took us so long? Could be I've been too busy with my Nobel Prize-winning research in physics and medicine. Or I'm just a procrastinator. Can't get around to deciding which.

As for signing up, I didn't see any options on the site here other than to join the group and announce our intentions. I also e-mailed Byrdman separately. Did I miss something more official?

Thanks also for the tidbit on the former Teal, Marc.

C'yall,

Skip

Heck Mark,
I am just glade to see we have someone here that can start a fire!!! :P

I sure wouldn't want to miss out of the pig & surf because we didn't have anyone qualified to start the fire.

With Dr. Bob and Dr. Skip both coming, I may just leave the band aids at home.
:wink

Fire... song... friends.... I vote for "Buring Down The House" be the gathering theme song....but don't tell John... he might get a bit nervouse on us...

moving now...so I might be off line for a few days.

Marc...thanks for the help on the gathering....and great fish too....hope there is a little vaccum bag of smoked triple tail waiting on Byrdman upon arrival with our outtings not producing them...

Skip...great to have you on line and on board for the gathering...

I NEED some water time...

:wink[/quote]

Umm. Uh. I don't know about Dr. Bob, but if you read "Dr" Skip's profile you would see he's a fisherman, therefore a liar. I'd bring the band-aids.

Yep sir,
I just did read your profile Skip and your right, I will bring the band aids after all and the "Free Get out of Jail" card too.... :smilep

I will be looking foward to discussing the "State of the State" with you around the camp fire...if we ever get it started.

Dr Bob is retired, but still has a few bandaids in the box. So should I bring my full burn kit?

Marc--is the 10 boats along side or bow/stern to the sea wall? It would be great if we could all be there at one place with the boats--the other option is to set a second row of boats out , rafted up. We are bringing a very small dinghy (6'7"--almost comical, but it does the job, and is light weight). We also have a few large fenders left over from our days of big boats--I think one is about 36" x 16"--so if others have these, they would be useful. Also we are bringing an 8' fender board. There are lots of ways to skin cats (I hope not)--or to raft up C Dories.

Bob, and all attendees . There is a good number of tie up possibilities with step on the dock access and rafting possibilities . John will move the big boat to Scipio Creek Marina and the small boat off the lift for the event which will free up a bunch of space with dock access . There is also a little "sandy beach" that is in front of the seawall . The smaller flatter ones could beach there stern to and anchor from the bow depending on the tides . Also there can be rafting on 3 sides of the gazebo . I think we will be fine for space and will play it by ear at this point . We will have rope and fenders and staff to help the process along .
Marc

He is alive and well and still unpacking ! I have been in touch . The Oysters are ordered !!! Byrdman has also arranged for his family's bar b que . Now the shrimps, fish ,etc.........
Marc

Hi Marc,
I am pleased to see you have all your ducks (pigs & sea creatures) all lined up. I thought Patrick might have reenlisted in the 101st Airborne or been drafted. He said he would be out of the loop a few days....not a week. I got a look at the extended weather forecast this morning and decided to pack my "Long John's". We are a bit thin blooded down this way and it doesn't take much of chill to make us remember why we moved this far south.

Looking forward to meeting you and all the rest of the Brats.

Mike

WOW... re-enlisting would have been much easier...than all this moving, selling one house, buying another, appliances in....appliances out... phones that do work, phones that do not work, lines they turned off that should have been left on, lines that were left on...that should have been turned off....but.... we have slept in our new home for two nights now...and we have tuperware shipping containers and movers hauling boxes stacked about the place about waist high....and YES..... OH....YES... I am looking forward to traveling south next week.

Plans right now...this very minute include:

Terry from NY driving south and meeting me in Clarksville/Nashville on Monday... 16Oct. We will go get C-Byrd from Mt. Juliet TN, then the BBQ and Roger Johnson (SENSIE) at the Nashville airport on late Tuesday afternoon, return to Clarksville for the night. 6am Wednesday, the 18th...head south as to beat the Nashville Poor Suckers That Gotta Go To Work Traffic....and have an RV, the Excursion and two C-Dory boats in tow. Yeilding in Montgomery to throw off some bed parts that need to get back to Montgomery, and possibly pick up Jeff and Cathy with their CD25, making 3 boats in tow. Then... have not talked with Donna and Rick...but they are welcome to join us if they can get off work that early in the week... If not... we will see them in Eastpoint.

Should kinda-sorta arrive in Eastpoint FL around 5-730pm on the 18th depending on road consturctions, traffic, kidneys...and things like that.

Cell phone is working...no other lines are.
Email from Krystal each morining in Clarksville...at a whopping 11Mbps....

So... see yall soon...and truly looking forward to boating, C-Dory folks, good times, great foods...and FUN!!!
