11/15 - Snohomish River Cruise

Pardon my ignorance of the Puget Sound geography but is the river you refer to near Kenmore, north end of Lake Washington. Reason I ask is we're planning on cruising the Lake during Nov. 7-11. I'd love to meet up with the herd if that's the weekend you're referring to.

Dene- The Snohomish River Cruise starts at the Everett Boat ramp which is located at the confluence of the Snohomish River and what is officially called Port Gardner, I think. So, if you leave the ramp and turn right you are on the Snohomish River, if you turn left you go past the Navy Base into Port Gardner and Puget Sound.
The river up by Kenmore on Lake Washington is the Sammamish Slough. You can cruise slowly up it for a few miles. I always find it interesting for bird watching.
If you are going to spend a few days on Lake Washington, Portage Bay and Lake Union and the ship canal out to the Chittenden Locks, you will have a wonderful cruise. Pat Anderson likes to anchor overnight in St. Andrews Bay. I like to stop at the floating dock at Ivar's Salmon house, just under the big I-5 bridge. Chinooks is a fine restaurant at Fisherman's Terminal. The terminal is itself interesting, with lots of Alaska fleet fishing boats and a memorial to those who died at sea. Don't forget to cruise by Bill Gates house just south of the 520 floating bridge. It should be quite visible now that the leaves are falling. Two good places to put in at the south end of the lake are Coulon Park in Renton, and the 40th St ramp in Bellevue. Both ramps are just off I-405. Lots more information on this site if you search.
Enjoy your cruise!

Nope. The mouth of the Snohomish River is in Everett. I think you are thinking about the Sammamish Slough.

Pat n Marty,

Thanks. The light went off in my head. I was in Everett with the Carver 6 weeks ago. I remember thinking giving some serious thought about cruising the river.

I've already begun researching Lake Washington and will enjoy visiting the spots you mentioned. I've been to Fisherman's Terminal. The fish and chips at Chinook is the best ever. We will definitely revisit.

We'll overnight at Kirkland too.

anyway, back to the main topic....

Just looked it up on Google Earth. How far up the river do you go? And When is this planned? Don't know if we can get over for this but it does sound fun and we are planning on doing at least one trip per month this winter. We have seen some of the pix in the albums from this and it looked fun.

In past cruises we have gone all the way up to the Town of Snohomish. Unfortunately, the city fathers have not put in any kind of docking facility so we can't tie up.

There are pictures of last years trip in the "kingfisher" album page #5 including a screen shot of the C-80 showing where we fell off the map.

I've had this annual cruise on my mind for several weeks now and have been struggling with coming up with a date for it. This evening I returned from a weekend in sunny Bellingham where I attended a Pre-Hospital Emergency Services Conference. Last night I walked around the Bellingham Marina reminiscing about the fantastic C-Brat gathering there this past August and thinking about the S.R.D.C.
At any rate as to the Snohomish River Delta Cruise, the best that I can come up with for a date that works for me is on Sat. December 27 which obviously is the weekend following Christmas. (Unfortunately, a November schedule that has me at work on some weekend days plus the fact that I volunteered to assist Arlington High School with their upcoming production of the play "Peter Pan" severely cuts into my weekend availability). (No I'm not flying around in green tights dressed as Peter Pan.... ...but the director asked me to assist in "flying" the actors and actresses for the performance. So, I've recruited some fellow technical rescue firefighters to assist in this project).
Looking at the tide charts for December 27 looks favorable, but it is up to any prospective participants to "weigh in" as to their interest. Otherwise we could try to schedule in Jan., Feb. or March.
Naturally, if the group still wants to do November, I'm sure that we have enough previous Snohomish River Cruisers that could lead the group without me.

Well, I am not the guy to lead us into those sloughs and back out again! My GPS showed us boating over dry land! If no brave volunteers for November, January or February will do just fine!

While laying in bed today with a swollen ankle I called Dave. He is allowing me to take over this outing for him. November the 15th looks good for me and susan. For those of you that have not been up the river and thru some of the water ways it a great area full of wild life. I have seen many seals, otters, birds of every kind, coons and deer. The mouth of the river is a breeding area for osprey. Their nest are one top of many of the old poles in the area. Its also a great area for duck hunting. Which is going on right now so we will have to stay out of those areas on our tour. If any one has any ideas of thing they would like to see on the way please let me know. I will check the tides and see what are the best times to launch. Everett launch is a great place to launch for this run and there are several restaurants near by if anyone want to dine after the cruise or we can fill my street with trailer and eat at my place. I will post a sign up sheet or something later today when I have a real start time. To let you all know its safe all the way to snohomish rail road bridge. After that its dependent on tide an river flow if we can get higher up river. I will go farther up but I will NOT lead anyone higher then that. IF you hit anything after the bridge its on you.

Ok the 15th sounds good. The tide looks good that day with a nice high at sun up and just a small low threw the day with a good high at the end, what I call a bump tide.tide

I dont know how to get a sign up going so if the powers that sit on high are looking I could use some help ( when your not posting pic of your dog) I would like to be headed up river by 9am or so ( if any one thinks later is better let me know) We will make a pass thru some of the back waters and sloughs. then make a run up to snohomish and back. figure 4 to 5 hours up and back. I will try to get some history printed up if I can on the area. I was also wandering if any one has pushed up the skagit from the sound??

Sorry, will not be able to make it...

Yes, There are three choices. You can stay at the dock at the ramp. Their is even a bath room at the top of the dock. You can stay at the dock in front of the marina or you can tie up at the dock on jetty island across from the ramp. I would not drop anchor any where around here. any where that is not in the channel is to shallow or too exposed.
