15th Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza - 2017

Colby
I think The crew of Vega aa well as C-CSS will be there Sunday or Monday, the plan is to cruise up river and try some of the local color...
I look forward to seeing you at Rio Vista
Pedro

Thanks Pedro. Maybe I can connect with them. I was just going to reserve the two nights in Rio Vista, but maybe I should hold off and see what their plans are. Looking forward to meeting everybody. Colby

One can go upstream from Rio Vista to Sacramento and the work your way down the various rivers to see the local colour. Try the Meadows for instance.

We used Dawdling on the Delta, by Hal Scheel for a guide.

Boris

Thanks Boris. I believe that is the same publication Dr. Bob mentioned to me.

Accomplishing the hardest part of the trip today. Packing the CD-22 for 3 weeks of travel with a 70 degree temperature variation over the time period! :x So for you local folks out by the Delta, am I in the ball park preparing for temps of 60-70 during the day and 40-50 at night during this cruise? And possible rain showers and breezes? Colby

Hello Colby, The weather would likely be in mid 40s at the coldest, up to the high 70s during the day, maybe ? The weather here is always changeable with regard to rain and, more importantly wind. Typically more wind in the afternoon but in the spring here one never knows. Look forward to meeting you and cruising some of the best cruising grounds with some of the nicest folks around :D

BTW We were out and about on Slack Time Sunday evening and want to mention that this year with all the heavy rains pouring out of the Sierras we all need to be extra watchful for debris in the water. There are lots of 'deadheads" and junk flowing out the rivers and out the Golden Gate - logs are pretty tough on props, who knew!

Slack Time

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and enjoying the area. Hopefully the leader will wash all the deadheads to the side! LOL. Colby

Certainly hoping the Delta isn't seeing all the winds we've been experiencing on the way out. I swear there are white caps in the marina here at Lake Pleasant by Phoenix... Colby

Colby, I went for a motorcycle ride today, out along the Juan de Fuca south shore, almost to that NW pointy end. Winds at Race Rocks (Victoria) this morning at 6 were 34k, and Ediz Hook on tbe Port Angeles side were 15 to 18. There were whitecaps in the pavement

You might want a jack line on the boat, at least while you are at the dock

And... have a great time. Hoping to be there with you all, next time.

We have been having high winds the past 2 days here- gusts of 30 - 40 mph.
The Delta has been windy. The winds are supposed to be gone tomorrow (Saturday) and be calm for the rest of the weekend and into next week.
I'll be boat up this weekend-- just wish I had the time for the Delta trip.

Looks like we'll be facing headwinds again today driving between Lake Pleasant and Kingman. Glad to hear they are suppose to be dying down. This has been a crazy windy week! Colby

John Eudy would like a head count of how many attendees want to go on his Marsh tour at the Duck Club. John needs to arrange enough duck boats in the water in advance.

There are usually many Cormorants and some ducks to see. It is an interesting wildlife area.

There are also new caretakers at the Duck Club that John needs to break in. Bobbie and Chris finally retired from Wheeler Island after five years of service.

Please indicate how many in your group want to go on this one hour tour of the 1,000 acre marsh on Wednesday afternoon after we get to Wheeler Island.

Please respond by this Sunday if you want to go on the Marsh tour.

Hi Jim,
Yes count Laurie and I in for the duck boat tour (otherwise known as the "Jungle Tour" at least to us...). BTW I am picking up a couple of growlers of local micro-brewery beer :beer for those who enjoy such things! The weather so far, looks pretty promising out our window. We are so ready to get out on the water and just do boat stuff. See you all soon

Growl, growl...and growl

While we are in Petaluma, The Balch family would like to invite us all to "Balch Castle" for dinner at da Mansion. Hopefully you'all will get to meet my pal Tom...and get the tour....

Thanks Joel. We look forward to the party in Petaluma.

Steve and Alex- today they are launching the 100 foot wooden sailing vessel that they have been building in the Sausalito tent for the last 4 years with 1,000 volunteers!

Wow, just missed the launching. But it would be great to see her wet in the water. Thanks for the info, it will be a must-see on our Sausalito visit.

I took a poll, all 4 of us would like to go on the duck tour if there's still room. Alex, Carmen, Erika and myself. No worries if not enough room, we love to walk the area also.

Thanks.

Marcia and I would love to go on the tour! Thanks to John for the opportunity.
We're really looking forward to this Extravaganza. Special thanks also to Joel for arranging the experience of the "Castle" in Petaluma.

On schedule to be launching Midnight Flyer at Rio Vista tomorrow sometime around noon or shortly there after. Earlier I was bitching about the wind we were towing against. But think I prefer that over the traffic we dealt with between Las Vegas and Wasco, Ca! Besides the slow and go traffic between Vegas and Barstow, Hwy 58 had a 6 mile back up for the four corners stoplight with 395! Also, before leaving home I was concerned about dealing with any boat inspections along the way. That worry was for nothing! Our routing via Wichita, Liberal, Dalhart, Guymon, Tucumcari, Holbrook, Heber, Payson, Phoenix (then a few nights on Saquaro, Canyon & Pleasant), Kingman, Las Vegas, Barstow and tonight Wasco, involved no inspections, except for the California Stop just outside Barstow. And that was a quick polite cursory look at our "very clean boat". Our plans at this time are to launch tomorrow, stay in the marina at night and maybe just poke around near there during the day. If anyone else will be there early and are planning on cruising out somewhere, let me know. Colby
