You might find less of a tangle of cables, shifter;power and steering to step over when boarding over the port side of the splash well. Weight distribution is important--and you have to make those decisions, based on what room there is.

Good call! I mostly see the swim step on the port side. I saw a California boat that had it on the Starboard side, but they had a bait tank mounted on it. It does make more sense to keep the kicker on the Starboard side, being straight back from the helm and adjacent to fuel too. I think that is the optimum use setup...and then move batteries and fuel around if necessary. I have been looking at how different folks have this all arranged.
