The 17th Annual Catalina Off-shore Adventure is hereby scheduled from Sunday, August 7, 2022 to Saturday, August 13, 2022. Please mark your calendars as we are reviving this great event.

Please see 2017 for details from the 16th Annual Off-shore Adventure. We did not do this C-Dory trip for the last four years.

In 2018 we did the Nashville Skyline Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers Cruise, in 2019 I had health problems, in 2020 there was Covid 19, and in 2021 we did Mark Twain’s Big River C-Dory Cruise on the Upper Mississippi River. Now is the rare chance to get onboard to this historic 2022 Off-shore Adventure.

Please indicate your 2022 attendance on this thread. All C-Dory’s are invited. Unlike our Delta and Bay Extravaganza, there is no boat limit for this C-dory event. Also, you do not have to stay the entire time at this event, as you can drop-in, or drop-out, of some of the days, if you want.

Kath and I will arrive at Marina Del Ray Sunday late afternoon, August 7, 2022, coming from Sacramento. We will then proceed to Two Harbors Monday, August 8, 2022, leaving at 7:00 AM. Some of us will return from Two Harbors to MDR on Saturday morning, August 13, 2022, again leaving Two Harbors at 7:00 AM.

This is a fun event. It gives the C-Dory owner the chance to safely go off-shore 22 miles from Marina del Ray to Two Harbors. This is probably the only off-shore adventure listed on this site. But you do need to have a tender to fully enjoy this cruise.

More will be posted later.

I'd love to do this trip some time. However, I'll be in the PNW the month of June, Isle Royale the last half of July, and then we are planning to cruise the Erie Canal middle of August through the middle of September. Sure wish these kind of events could be scheduled/posted much earlier, but know that can be hard to do. Maybe next year if this becomes an annual thing again. Colby

Jim, count me in. So far, nothing in the way. There was mention of a fishing trip during this event. We’ve been lucky and successful on all of the previous fishing excursions we’ve undertaken during this cruise, hopefully we’ll have a chance again this year. Fish fry, yeah!!!

We would love to be there. There are a number of changes at Two Harbors since that last gathering. (Not all good, including the Harbor Sands Palapa and Lounge Chair Rental over what was public area.).

Fishing is restricted by the Catalina Island restricted fishing zones illustrated here

The Isthmus has always had a special place in our lives. Enjoy!

Will be there for the first few days, looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Just an update. John and Laurie of Slack Time and John and Robbin of Dinner Belle II will also be joining us in Catalina this year. It is likely we will drive down together from Northern California.

New to the forum, always peeked around. We are excited to see a Catalina trip. Count us in! We will be there Memorial weekend also, if anyone else is going to be there, hit us up.

:beer :beer Cheers!

Dear All:

As of now we have the following eight boat attendees for the 17th Catalina Off-shore Adventure:

1. Jim & Kath – Pounder
2. John & Robbin – Dinner Belle II
3. Steve et. all – Dora Jean
4. Floyd & Eiko – Far C’r
5. John & Laurie – Slack Time
6. Eroc (?) – Colonel’s Lady
7. Steve & Karen – Sea Spray
8. Ron et. all – Islander.

Everyone is welcome to come to this event as there are no boat number limitations, and the only constraint is the resolve of the skipper. Please consider this historic C-Dory gathering, likely one of the longest lasting events, and probably the only off-shore adventure listed on this site.

Two Harbors is really a remarkable venue, and it is testimonial to the long-lasting nature of this event. Please sign up now. Who knows when we will crap out and this adventure will only be a fond memory.

Get your boat equipment in order as this is a true blue water event.

More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the departure date.

Hi Jim. Do you foresee doing this event again August 2023? I’d love to go but we had already made plans for the Erie Canal this year. Colby

Colby.

I never know if this will be the last year for this event. Everything is health related and how much energy I have left.

Dear All:

The forthcoming 17th Annual Catalina Off-shore Adventure is coming up soon (August 7th to 13th). A group of us are meeting at Marina Del Rey (MDR) on Sunday, August 7th for an informal kickoff.

This year, like prior years, some attendees are leaving for Two Harbors at different times and locations, though everyone will meet at Two Harbors, on Monday, August 8th.

Kath and I will arrive at MDR late Sunday afternoon, August 7th. We will be coming with John & Robbin, John & Laurie, and Steve & Karen. For those that want to, we go out to dinner on Sunday night at MDR, after we get out boats launched and settled in their slips at MDR. We can take the MDR harbor shuttle to a nearby restaurant.

We will then proceed to Two Harbors on Monday morning, August 8th, leaving MDR at 7:00 AM. When we get to Two Harbors, we will obtain string line reservations together facing the shore.

We will coordinate on the way over via VHF Channel 69. We will contact Harbor Patrol on VHF Channel 9 when we get to Two Harbors.

Many of us will return from Two Harbors early Saturday morning, August 13th, again leaving Two Harbors at 7:00 AM.

During the week for our activities, we may have a fishing trip (and an associated fish fry), a sightseeing trip to Avalon, a snorkeling trip, a tender excursion, hikes to Catalina Harbor, and a bicycle ride. On Friday night, we usually have a group dinner at the Harbor Reef Restaurant.

For most aging C-Dory folks it will be sufficient to just relax on our boats and have the surf lift us up and down as we enjoy a cold beer. This kick back activity includes watching the sun rise and set, and enjoying the near perfect 70-degree weather in flip-flops, shorts, and t-shirts (Jimmy Buffet style).

Some folks eat breakfast at the Galley Grill in the morning, and most eat lunches and dinners on their own boats. Often there will be mid-afternoon cocktails at the Harbor Reef Saloon or the Banning House. Some folks host a happy hour on their boats during the week. There is a good grocery store at Two Harbors where one can buy most anything, and you can replenish ice every few days.

Be sure to bring a good functioning tender, as a big part of this event is getting to and from the dingy dock, and visiting the other boats. Also, bring quarters for the pay showers, a key ingredient of happy Island Life.

On Monday night, August 8th, we will have a group pot luck on the beach somewhere. Each boat should plan on bringing something to eat to share with the group. Everyone is to bring their own drinks, plates, and silverware for Monday night.

For food assignments for our Monday night BBQ pot luck on the beach we need food volunteers for the following dishes:

1. Steaks to BBQ - Jim & Kath
2. Cheese, chips, and dips for predinner snacks - need volunteer
3. Potato or macaroni salad – need volunteer
4. Green salad and dressing – John & Robbin
5. Corn and butter and aluminum foil – need volunteer
6. Ice cream (from the store) – need volunteer
7. Cookies – need volunteer.

There are seven boats signed up for the event, so there is an opportunity for everybody to contribute. First come, first to select food item. Please indicate here what you selected to bring. Please plan on bringing food for 16 people.

If anyone needs more details on this trip, they can call me at (916) 799-0286 (cell).
We are looking forward to seeing everyone on this Island trip.

Eric & Heather are you still going on this trip? If so, clarify when you will arrive.

Thanks.

Jim on M/V Pounder

I'll do #6, ice cream (and condiments).

Thanks again for the exceptional organizing, Jim. I'm "planning" on arriving at MDR as well on Sunday afternoon, we'll see.
