2002 Cruiser hi top 22 ft $31, 500 SF Bay

Just having about 1000 hours on the engines, should not be any issue. There are many of these engines which get over 4000, up to 8,000 plus hours. However this is in commercial use. Yes, if the engine is run every day, it will do better, but with a modern 4 stroke, 1000 hours is not a lot.

Good luck on the sale. It sounds like a good boat--and a good deal for someone.

Apparently my posting describing my boat and/or engines as junk is incorrect. We went to the inspecting marina today to witness the failed tests and they could not be reproduced. We are having the "sour" fuel drained and the carburetors removed and inspected, this time hopefully by a competent mechanic. I have received so many emails about this boat that I must use this forum to disseminate information. After sea trials when everything has a clean bill of health we will repost the boat.

Sounds like the "potential buyer" and inspecting mechanic were trying to conspire to get a "good reason" to low ball and cheat you.

Yamahas are stout engines and like Dr. Bob said should last for many thousands of hours if well maintained.

Do you have records from the previous buyer since you stated you purchased last year? How did you maintain engines?

Once you get results from a reputable mechanic, I suggest you post compression numbers and/or a picture or download of report.

Good Luck!

Well the potential buyer (Myself) had driven from Seattle to the California bay area with every intention of purchasing the boat for the already agreed price not looking to low-ball anyone. I thought I had found a reputable mechanic knowing several people who have used them for years with nothing but good things to say and the fact that they have 25yrs in business and have great online reviews. I now doubt all the recommendations and reviews. The problem on the boat engines are just not something I was willing to get into. However the inspection report is pretty self-explanatory as far as the quality of the marina. Primary example was the wipers not functioning (the manual wipers) or the electronics not working (battery switch was off for storage). Anyhow this is a very nice boat in great shape unfortunately I did not have time to have another inspection done on the boat (the marina was already a full day behind our agreement). The owner is very nice and reasonable person who I believe is in it for the best interest of both parties. Unfortunately things did not work out between us and that is was the sole responsibility of a faulty marina and poor mechanics.
