2003 Suzuki BF90 Problems

Our ongoing problems with our Suzuki have been analyzed by a Suzuki dealer as a failed Engine Control Unit. Sadly, this part is currently unavailable in the US and believe me, we've tried everywhere. There is one rebuilt one on E-Bay, but I'm not very anxious to give it a try.

In desperation, we're wondering if one might be available in Canada. The part number is 33920-90j94 and in the US it lists from $1300 to $1600.

We're scheduled to lead a cruise to Isle Royale around August 1 and according to the dealers I've contacted, the parts arrival in the US is between July 30 and August 16.

Any thoughts or suggestions to help our dilemma?

Sorry to hear about about your issues trying to find a 2003 ECU. I looked on Brown Point Marine's parts lookup and it did say 2003 NLA, no longer available. So I guess 2001 or 2002 wouldn't work. Those are available. Have you looked into parts for a 2003 Johnson 90hp? Aren't those supposed to be rebadged Suzuki's? Just thinking out loud.

I called Browns this morning for Hank and Pat and they did not have one in stock. I'm sure Pat tried also. I also called a bunch of Suzuki dealers in Wisconsin and no joy. The online parts people also gave a July 30 or later date for one. Can't say for sure but it looks like they do not want to stock a $1300 plus part. Sure hope they can find one somewhere. If anyone has a dealership in their area please check and let Hank and Pat know if you find one. There has to be one someplace...... Thanks Tom

Thanks, everyone for your suggestions. Given the age of our engine and the frustration of locating parts, we're repowering. Heck, it's only money.

Sorry to hear about that lack of available parts. I had heard rumors of difficulty finding parts, but never run into it. It gives one pause about buying an engine which is not supported at less than 15 years of age.

Hank, what brand and HP are you re-powering with? Good luck!

Fortunately, the Suzuki dealer we found in Wisconsin also deals with Yamaha so we were able to make an arrangement that included a trade-in on our 14 year old DF90. We have a very reputable Yamaha dealer close to home which also influenced our decision to go that way.

Once Meri Aura is back in Michigan we'll make final preparations for the Isle Royale Cruise.

Looking forward to seeing Thisaway on the Mississippi.
