Peter,
Thanks for the link. It explains how Scooter became C-Time.

Now......do the owners of C-Time still have it for sale?
They owned it for only 16 months. Is there a problem with the boat or do the owners have problems requiring a sale.?
The price seems like a premium. Does the boat have some special features that makes it that pricey??
Thanks for any info.
Jack

It might be helpful to post some photos of the "Custom" features. Are the deck boxes standard? Are they built below the floor level (like the tom Cat? What was done to the aft hangin locker to give more room, as well as height? Please show electronics etc.

The base price of a C Dory is listed at $60,600 for a 2007 on the web site. In comparison, to the other comperable boats the $85,000 seems high...

Thanks.
Bob Austin

Seems a bit high to me too...but add up the price of a comparably equipped new boat, and see if there is a sufficient savings, it is just hard to tell on the available info. But it does seem high...

Mike,
You are correct on the $65k sale. It was a pretty well loaded up boat and the same year. That one was a fair price.

Comparing the price of a used boat to the cost of a new one is not relavent; in this case the used boat is 4 yrs. old and the new one is NEW, unused, unmarked etc. The other thing though is you usually get a lot of extras buying a used one.
Thanks for the reply.
Jack

Beg to differ there, Jack. THE relevant question in buying a relatively new used boat IS whether you are saving enough compared to buying a new boat. And Daydream is not for sale...but if it were, I am pretty sure it would be attractive at $75K or even $80K compared to buying a new boat at 2007 prices... there is no such thing as a "fair " price - I don't know the circumstances of Larry's sale of Helen O, I do know at $65K it was a steal for the buyer...

FYI,

Peter is right, C-Time (Scooter) was custom built for us and delivered through EQ on 4/30/04. The boat had many one-of-a kind features for that time such as: fresh water sea land head, storage trays in the berth area, an oversized fish box with macerator pump out( I fit in it at 6'2'' and 210 lb), the hanging locker was raised about six inches (so micrwave door could clear the seat back, access for fuel tank removal. Many other mods.

The boat was in pristine condition when sold to Ernie and I assume that he has maintained it to high standards since. There are pictures of the construction process in the MY IRA folder.

Hope Ernie follows his post an responds soon. C-Time is a wonderful custom 25 unlike any other.

Wow, if I ever decide to sell my boat I'll be sure and run a poll of the membership asking what they think I ought to price it at before I run the ad here...

It seems that a little softening on the price is in order if it is to be sold. I was in Gig Harbor area with my truck last week and it would have been a good time to haul a boat north.

Incidently...I stopped in the LaConner Yacht Sales shop also looking for a boat. They ignored/shuned me like a bastard stepchild.
Apparently business is good if they can treat a customer that way. Phone calls while I was there were answered like they were all good buddys but not a look/glance or word to someone who took the time to drive to their shop and was standing not 4' from their desk. Outa-there. An e-mail brought "sincere apologies". Too late as I was already
back in Alaska.

Didn't a nice one sell (asking) for 65K recently? Sold in about a week, if
I recall.

Keep in mind there was no trailer involved in this sale. The boat was kept in a dry storage facility and always launched by a lift.

So add the cost of a trailer to the $65K.

I just pruchased the New York boat--with some minor problems and minimal electronics for 30K. A good Alunimum trailer was about $4K,
Hower the yard where I picked up the boat had a nice used trailer which probably would be significantly less.

A lot depends on the condition, what electronics, as well as the difference in the cockpit and fuel tanks in the newer boats.

Got a good laugh or two here guys.
Has the boat sold or not?

Bob: Yes, you stole the CD25 from a man who either had to sell a boat, or, had much more money than most of us and could afford to throw the boat away rather than be hasseled by folks while attempting to sell the boat.

Compair a boat who has custom work/building/plumbing by Les and his crew to the "quality" and workmanship of late on CD25s and TC255s??? I'd say that fact alone is worth about $2,000 peace of mind knowing it was done right and not to a production schedule.

Now, add up the hours of labor to install all the parts/electronics/gagets mentioned...and yep... Pat Anderson is target on here....IT ADDS up.

Jack: Why did you not drive to NY and get the boat Bob bought?
This tread sounds like an old neighbor of mine that lived 2 doors down from me in Montgomery. He said he had a Dr. friend in KY that wanted a house on our street, in our neighborhood....and had been trying to buy one for the last 4 years... Then he scoffed at my selling price. I then told him if he wanted his friend to live on our street, that maybe he should give his house away to him... After the private neighborhood offering as to allow my neighbors 1st buyer options and to have input/participation as to who moved into the neighborhood, I raised the price another $20K, and had a contract prior to noon the day the for sale by owner add hit the streets. Bob's friend is still in KY.

Also reminds me of when I sold FreeByrd... Many had seen her on Les' site at a real nice deal. Very few realized that I added about $8,000 of stuff to her before leaving Oak Harbor with her. ....and I got pretty much the same feedback that this boat is getting...from folks who were less than informed, or had not even taken the time to look at the details. But,,the one who hit me the hardest has now sold his C-Dory...and drives a miata for fun now.

Takes 2 folks to make a boat deal. Seller/Buyer. When they agree...it is a deal. Another reason I liked our C-Dory boats building cost going up about 5% a year.... it kept our resale value going up of our previously loved boats.....

Apparently business is good if they can treat a customer that way. Phone calls while I was there were answered like they were all good buddys

Don't you just love it when you take the time to drive to a store, go inside to talk to someone about something and they are too busy talking to a "customer" that took all effort to pick up their phone and call. I always appreciate a sales person who answers the phone with " I'm with a customer right now. I will get back to you as soon as I finish".

There is no question that the newest CD 25 is a "nicer" boat than the earlier ones. It was interesting looking at the price of "accessories" since 2003--some have doubled in the last 4 years!

Yes, custom work is nice. However even more important for the value of the boat is that any holes put in the cored areas or deck be properly sealed. The question is how many boats this is done in?

My price was at the top of the market. That is true. The only reason I put her up for sale was that I had not been able to use her for a little over a year while building a new business. She has been covered and maintained. My thought was to let someone else enjoy this wonderful boat, even though I could not.

NOW my business is going great. My prices are at the top of the market, but they get so much more for their money. Just like my boat price. I now have some free time. I just spent the last two weeks out enjoying life on my wonderful C-DORY. To me, the last two weeks were worth more than the asking price of SCOOTER. And all of my travels to follow are Priceless.

Thank you C-DORY!
