Thank You Jim! :D

We'll watch for the events sign-up.

Wow - the 8th and 9th Annual! You guys are getting pretty good at this stuff. Lots of memories.

The event signups are in place. When you get the details worked out, we can link both signup lists to their respective dedicated discussions. Plus, we'll get the event threads listed on the front page when they get going.

Thanks, Jim, for keeping these going.

Dear All 2010 Delta/Bay Extravaganza Attendees:

Below is the conceptual plan for our 8th Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza C-Dory event. This event is scheduled from Wednesday, May 12th, through Sunday, May 16th 2010. Right now there are eight C-Dory boats that have indicated interest in attending this entire event as follows:

1. Pounder
2. Dinner Belle II
3. Dora-Jean
4. C-Hawk
5. SEA3PO
6. Tee Ten
7. Marcia Jane
8. “No Name” (David)

This event will accept a strict maximum of ten boats due to docking space limitations. Therefore we have room for just two more boats. If you are interested in going on this trip, please sign up now.

If you are listed above and are now planning on not going, please let us also know now. The first ten boats to confirm attendance will be invited to go. Everyone else will have to wait until next year. Please note that only seven attendees are on the official sign-up list, right now and that Dinner Belle II is not on the list, but is a counted attendee as one of the eight (he owns the Duck Club that we go to!).

Our activity schedule will be similar to last year and is as follows:

A. Wednesday, May 12th leave Rio Vista (Delta Marina) no later than Noon, and arrive at Wheeler Island Duck Club late afternoon

B. Thursday, May 13th leave Wheeler Island (on an early incoming tide if possible), and arrive at the City of Petaluma (Petaluma Turning Basin)

C. Friday, May 14th, leave Petaluma at an appropriate time to transverse San Pablo Bay safely, and arrive at the City of Sausalito (Schoonmaker Point Marina)

D. Saturday, May 15th, leave Sausalito mid-morning, and arrive at the City of San Francisco (South Beach Harbor)

E. Sunday, May 16th, leave San Francisco at first early light, and return to Rio Vista before Noon.

Sometimes we are not able to meet our plan as scheduled due to weather conditions. In the Central/West Delta main channels one wants to avoid the incoming wind, and the outgoing tides, as they can be nasty enough to even put a mighty C-Dory out-of- commission. Once you are West of Pittsburgh, the water channels become wider, and the wind is usually going to be coming at you from the West, and if the tide is going out, hang on! Amazingly last year, we lucked out and we were able to finish off the entire trip itinerary, as we originally planned it.

For full disclosure, for any new attendees to this trip, and for the uninitiated, this trip is not for the faint-of-heart. The extravaganza covers approximately 200 NM in a relatively short time period, and there is always unpredictability with weather and water conditions. This trip definitely discourages the 16-foot C-Dory. The more experienced and competent-on-the-water 22 foot and 25 foot C-Dory people have generally enjoyed this trip the most.

As always, each boat Captain is solely responsible for his/her own boat’s and passenger’s ultimate safety and well-being. Each Skipper is not to rely on the judgment (or lack thereof) of the Pack Leader (me). Please show up with your vessel in good operating condition and with full tanks of fuel.

Again, in reviewing prior experience with this event, it has not been uncommon for an individual boat Captain to choose an alternative itinerary mid-course into the event, depending on their individual boat handling comfort level, and/or affinity for risk or discomfort. However, in most instances our C-Dory group has generally stayed, and played, together, and we hope that is the case this year as it has been the last several years.

This is our 8th time for this C-Dory cruise, and we have always enjoyed ourselves and the other attendees or we would not keep doing it. We enthusiastically again look forward to this trip. Those boat owners that seem to have enjoyed this trip the most in the past seem to have been able to live with our Number One Rule - NO Whining.

More details of the trip will follow shortly later. For now we need to firm up our boat and head count, and attend to some registration details.

After reviewing this conceptual plan, if there are any changes to your proposed attendance, please let us know now. If your boat is on the above list we are assuming that you are coming for this entire event. You do not have to respond to us if you are already on this list and you are coming for the entire event. Otherwise we need to hear from you by no later than this Saturday, March 20th.

Saturday, March 20th will be the final drop-dead date for sign-up to this event. The reason for this early closure date is the need to make advance reservations for a relatively large number of boats, in a fairly high demand marina area.

Do not expect to attend this event if you are not confirmed by Saturday, March 20th. Because of the high number of boats, eight already signed up, we will be able to accommodate only two more boats, for a total of ten boats. More than this ten number, and we cannot get reservations at these marinas, or even fit our boats at the small Wheeler Island dock. If anyone drops out between now and the 20th of March, then that will make room for any other boats.

Because of the challenging logistics of this trip, do not sign up unless you intend to participate in the entire event, from beginning to end. After eight years of experience, we have found that it is just too difficult for the group to accommodate interlopers who just want to drop into parts of the event to see what it is all about. Either commit to this event and enjoy the entire experience, or do not sign up for it.

Last year, for the first time, we had three boats that indicated that they were going to come on the trip right up to the last minute and then they dropped out on the first show-up day. All three of these boats were brand new attendees, and they are not invited back for this year. Because of these dropouts we were stiffed with marina reservation fees for all of them. This year we are going to have to collect marina reservation fees in advance, and these collections will be non-refundable, even if you do not show up, for whatever reason.

The advance marina reservation fees per vessel are $66.00 ($21 for Petaluma and $45 for San Francisco). You will pay your own launch fees and parking costs for Rio Vista when you check-in there and you will pay your own marina fees at Sausalito when you arrive there.

Please send your check to me for $66.00 on Saturday, March 20th to confirm your reservation. Along with your check, please provide (1) the full first and last names for yourself and crew; (2) your vessel name; and (3) your vessel CF number. This information is needed for our marina reservations. Please send your check, and this requested information, to Jim Gibson at 15 Noah Court, Sacramento, California 95831.

Thank you for your interest in this event. All of the eight indicated attendees for this event are repeats from prior years, and we believe that this is high testimonial to the overall trip experience. New attendees are very welcome to participate. As always, we look forward to seeing everyone in May.

Sincerely

Jim and Kath

The above rules are justified. This trip involves significant organizational logistics and water condition challenges. Don't let that discourage you, however, if you are considering going. This is one of the greatest C-Brat get-togethers. I attended last year and would go again this year if I did not have a prior commitment to attend my mother's 90th birthday celebration in Kenilworth, IL. Jim and his sidekick Steve (Dora Jean) are the definitive leadership duo. They have the experience and expertise to guide you through the trip. You won't regret it. This is one not to be missed.

Jim
Tee Ten is in.... I'll be with a friend and not Sydney. (she takes up too much space, unless she insists on coming). We'll see. I'll bring some good wine.
See Ya.

Jim,

We greatly enjoyed last years cruise, and eagerly anticipate this one. My offer to pay a share of the no-shows still stands, as it hardly seems fair that you should go to all the hard work of planning the trip, and then get stiffed too.

Would it be possible for me to Paypal you the money for this years' cruise, and if so, what email address should I use?

David

C-Hawk is in. We missed the last couple years, due to not having a boat- not going to miss this year.
We expect to arrive Tuesday and spend the night in the Marina.

Dear All:

We are refreshing this thread to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to see it. We don't want someone complaining later that they want to go on the Delta/Bay trip, but it is too late.

There are now 9 vessels registered for the Delta/Bay Extravaganza. There is room for only one more boat. Please sign up now if you want to go.

Dave, we are not an ATM or Paypall machine, just simply send the check as instructed. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Jim and Kath

Dear All-

One vessel just dropped out, so we are now back down to eight boats. There is room for two more vessels, if someone else wants to go. Please sign up before this Saturday if you want to go.

Sincerely,

Jim and Kath

Check's in the mail Jim (actually tomorrow morning). And thanks to you and Kath for continuing to organize this event each year, it is one of the top 2 boating events of my year (the other being Catalina in August).

Can't wait...

Check is in the mail.
We had scheduled to be at a friends ranch that weekend- or well, we ain't missing the Delta this year!
See ya in May.

Hi Jim,

Our check is in the mail today. We had so much fun last year (it was our boating highlight of the year) we wouldn't miss this adventure for anything!

Not sure yet when we're arriving at Rio Vista. Regardless, we'll be there when the action starts.

Hopefully, the weather will do a repeat. We can't wait!

Dear All Delta and Bay Extravaganza C-Dogs:

We have eight reserved vessels for the 2010 Delta and Bay Extravaganza. For all of these eight vessels we have now received checks which we can use to hold marina reservations. Thank you all for your responsible commitment to this C-Dory gathering. We are very pleased with this turn-out, especially in this continuing crummy economy, and we are looking forward to having a great time with everyone.

Registration for this event is now officially closed. We will not accept any more boats at this 2010 Delta and Bay gathering. Sorry if you missed out on this event, but there is always next year, or sign up for the Catalina Off-shore Adventure, later in this year, if you missed out here.

The eight reserved C-Dory’s, and sixteen attendees, are as follows:

1. Pounder (Jim and Kathy)
2. Dinner Belle II (John and Robbin)
3. Dora Jean (Steve and Donna and daughter or son)
4. C-Hawk (Roger and Patricia)
5. SEA3PO (Joel and Susan)
6. Tee Ten (Steve)
7. Marcia Jane (Kent and Marcia)
8. “No Name” (David and Donald).

On Wednesday, Kath and I plan to launch our vessel about 10:00 AM, at Rio Vista. We will all leave Rio Vista as a group, at high Noon (sharp), and head down river to Wheeler Island.

John and Robbin are again kindly hosting a BBQ dinner for everyone on Wednesday night at their private Duck Club. There will be a dinner show-up present for every vessel that attends the Wednesday night dinner. On Thursday morning, Kath and I are again hosting a bacon and egg breakfast at the Duck Club for everyone.

There is no need for anyone to bring food for either Wednesday night, or Thursday morning. Please feel free to bring your own wine for dinner on Wednesday night, or host your own dock happy hours at any of our destinations.

Everyone is on their own for breakfasts and lunches throughout the trip. Some folks bring their own food with them, and others just go out to eat, as there are plenty of reasonable restaurants to eat breakfast and lunch nearby. Usually, most of us go out for a group dinner every night.

On Thursday, we will leave the Duck Club in the morning after breakfast, in time to safely cross San Pablo Bay, and to make a 2:00 PM scheduled bridge opening at Petaluma. On Thursday night we might go down to Volpi’s Italian Bar (been there since 1918), in the City of Petaluma, on Washington Street, for dinner.

On Friday, we will be heading to Sausalito. We need to clear the Petaluma “D” Street Bridge by 8:00 AM, Friday morning. Channel 9 is used to communicate with this bridge. The C-Dory Group will communicate on Channel 69, but also monitor Channel 16.

At Schoonmaker Point Marina in Sausalito, we will be staying on “F” dock. Remember to line up on Day Marker #6, on the way into, and out of the channel. Sausalito is a good place to refill, or top-off, your fuel tanks for the rest of the trip. On Friday night we might go down to the Sausalito Cruising Club for dinner and to enjoy the music and maybe show off our tattoos.

On Saturday morning we might go over to Angel Island for a nice hike and picnic, before we cross the Bay to San Francisco. On Saturday night we might have dinner at one of the local casual San Francisco neighborhood restaurants.

On Sunday, we will leave at sunrise (sharp), and head non-stop back to Rio Vista. We should pull into the docks at Rio Vista approximately 11:00 AM Sunday morning.
