20th Annual Delta and Bay Extravaganza

I was grateful to be a part of this year's Delta and Bay Extravaganza. It was as grand as the previous participants claimed it to be.

I am thankful to Jim for organizing it again and for his wisdom in changing the itinerary according to sea state. I am thankful to the Duck Club hosts John and Robin for their generosity. I am thankful to John (Slack Time) for showing me how to fish for stripers and for lending me his fishing gear. And finally, I thank the rest of the group for putting up with my mistakes and mishaps on the water and on land. I have gained much experience and confidance during this trip.

Thanks for posting those photos to your album. Hey Jim, did you guys go in the up river side to the duck club? The two times I was with you, we had the docks on our port side. I would have felt odd going in that way, lol. And Erdem, I have to ask as I saw some of your other photos on the way to the Delta photos, how the heck did that fox get on your covered bow? He didn't seem to bothered by your taking pictures of him/her... Anyway, thanks again for sharing the photos. Jim puts on a good cruise program! Colby

We sure missed you this year. Sean and Maddy on NautiCat, per your recommendation, won an award for the most enthusiastic participants.

Good observation Colby. Yes, we came into the duck club backwards with our boats on the Starboard side of the docks. Reason being, the river side was full of fallen trees. The entire C-Dory group formed a work detail and removed the trees so we could go out on the river side. John Marshall on Slack Time won an award for doing the most work removing the large fallen eucalyptus trees with a chain saw from the river.

Also, very rough going this year. We had to give up going to San Francisco on Friday due to unusually high winds. Benicia was a good alternative stop over. Finally made it to SF on Saturday and enjoyed a glorious day on the Bay.

Erdem, thanks for posting all those nice pictures. Without Floyd on Far C'r around to do photos it can get pretty slim if you rely on me for pictures.

Hi Colby,

The fox had taken residence in the trailer yard that I keep my boat in. I don't know how many boats he sampled before mine, but he lived on my boat for a few months. He easily climbed through the transom, obvious by the paw prints. It was not afraid of me if I was behind the glass, inside the boat. When I chased him by the bow, he ran along the gunnel, climbed down across the main engine, shredding my old sunbrella engine cover in the process.

For rent, he kept leaving bird bones and rodent bones on and around my boat.

I tried to evict him by using an ultrasonic animal repellant without success. I tried to keep him out by lining my transom with chicken wire, again without success. Finally, I gave up and succumbed to covering the bow with cardboard so he would not keep staining my antiskid. As a last resort, I sprinkled his bedding area with dried peppers, and that seemed to do the trick. He left a few weeks after that.
 
Hey, thanks Jim. I don't know about the world, or even communicator, but I have gotten around! This summer is pretty much my summer off I believe. At least no C-Brat gatherings on my schedule...

Erdem, sounds like that fox was a real PITA! I've had some minor issues with mice in the past, but that's it.
