Hi Brats,

Just a quick question: just what is a 25 Cruiseship?

I was under the impression that it was an older model, but recently I saw a post and under their name it listed a 2006 Cruiseship as the boat that they own.

What's the deal?

Nick
"Valkyrie"

I was also under the impression that the older models were designated as "Cruiseship", but perhaps it's just a state of mind..... Perhaps my 22' cruiser is really an "angler" since that what I think it is....

Finally a question I know the answer to!!

The C-Dory 25 Cruise Ship was built in 1995/96. There were six of them made, and three of those belong to members here. The only genuine Cruise Ships are those that came from the factory with this designation on the aft cabin sides:

Perhaps Mr. Toland can shed some light on why production was stopped after six boats. The way I understand the story, and it could be myth, is that the factory was falling behind on the production of their bread-and-butter CD22 so they decided to focus their efforts on that line and curtail the Cruise Ship rather than spread their staff too thin or cut corners in the plant.

The Cruise Ship hull is pretty much the same as today's CD 25 hull. In fact, when C-Dory restarted production the original mold for the bottom half was used (or so I was told). The big difference is in the topsides. The cabin in the older 25 has the door and aisle offset to starboard, It uses the same galley as the original CD 22 Cruiser with the addition of a hanging closet aft of the galley to use the extra cabin length. On the port side is a huge (for a 25' boat) dinette that converts to a double bunk that sleeps two adults comfortably. Aft of the dinette is a big head compartment. The other noticeable difference is the cabin roof. It is nearly flat and does not have the distinctive C-Dory raised center section. It is double layer glass with a balsa core and you could hold a square dance up there.

As to why some choose the Cruise Ship descriptor for their newer CD 25s on here is probably because it is a pretty cool name.

That's interesting! I'd really like to know the complete history of these boats, including all models and/or prototypes. That 27 footer that someone here owns always catches my eye, and I've seen a "water taxi" and several older models that just spur my curiosity.
I've often wondered what the last year of the original designer (owner) was. I'm assuming that my 94 was a Toland built boat. Are there any historical pics out there?
Hey...it's late here in the east, and as usual, I'm researching possible add-ons for my 13 year old boat, and dreaming of cruising, somebody post a C Dory history lesson and I'll stay up till morning!

Yeah...I've got it bad!

Didn't the Tolands leave the factory for CC in 2005?

I have Cruise Ship #4 .
Marc

Certainly you have more than that to share!?! I purposely did not name the other two CB CD CS owners in hopes they would feel left out, jump in, and add to the discussion of the +/- old/new.

Ok , I have to confess, I have not had alot [nearly enough] of personal time on the boat .I dream of that three day cruise, or quick trip to the Glades or St Johns river . It will happen . The boat was pretty bare bones when I got it, ancient electronics, household wiring, needed a good redo. It was quite different from the modern version , very simple but effective, accommodation wise , a 22' on steroids, with a "phone booth" head. I have modernized it with roof A/C , EU 2000 Gen/ 30 Amp.A.C. panel /3 Group 27 batterys ,4 gal. H20 heater with dedicated tank, shower,Garmin 489 GPS/FF , Standard VHF w/ Ram mic,Music, and Airhead toilet [thanks Pat] . It has a "take your time and enjoy the ride"1996 90 Honda , new Lenco tabs and a Bob's permatrim type thingy. 10Kts Cruise, 15 WOT, barely uses fuel. Its a cool boat , built to relax and cruise . I fish alot here in Fl ,and am blessed to be where I am with a bunch of different style boats to fish on so fishing amenities on this one are minimal . Its got the old Alcohol/Elec. Origo stove and a Cobb grill , huge cooler and cabin icebox .Bimini top and folding cockpit chairs .Total L.E.D. lighting refit coming . Life is good . The back "self drowning" cockpit hatches keep you on your toes , that will be addressed as well this winter . Thats is a little more info on my C dory !!!!

Mark – sounds like you have really done a nice job on your Cruise Ship. I looked at the photos in your album and it looks nice. Are there any plans to re-power it?

There are plans to repower, the old Honda 90 was ok before we added the amenities to the boat , it would plane it no problem . No more however it is now a slooooow cruiser with a top speed loaded of about 16 MPH. it does cruise nicely at 10 and gets exceptional fuel mileage , but I will need more speed sometime in the future . I will probably use an unsold 135 Honda we have on the lot or a 150 Suzuki when the time comes . For now the boat is fun and has a 500 mile range...... More little improvments like the lighting and electrical systems are in order first.
